Honestly I'd love a CR-Z, although I'd probably swap it to a more traditional engine if I had the money, not because I have anything against hybrid ownership, in fact I'm all about MPG, but the MPG figures of the CR-Z if I recall weren't really that impressive for a hybrid...

Like others have said, just really sad they didn't have an all motor option for it like in the old days. HF = EV MPG sipper, DX = Middle, and Si = K20/K24.

For the record, the second car key (all metal) is the key to my Civic's doors. The previous elderly owner thought that the ignition was broken and had the dealership replace it, only to realize that the key wasn't stuck at all, and that she just didn't realize that you have to push the key into the column before you can remove them.
Presumably she then decided that she didn't want to pay to have the locks replaced to match the ignition...

Hey everyone. I've had my first car, a 2000 Honda CR-V, since I graduated high school in 2011. It's at about 230k (got it at 160k) and has been a daily driver to get to work and band gigs on the weekends.

I'd like to say it's very well maintained. Any major problem has been fixed promptly both by me and the previous owner (who kept meticulous care of it before he died) and I'm relatively prompt with oil changes. However, I live in the Midwest and rust is getting worse and worse in the common areas (worst area pic related).

Now, I've been told with good continued maintenance and safe driving, I can probably expect at least 300k out of this car, but I'm just wondering how feasible that is given my climate and its daily town usage. Engine is apparently clean (even after an overheating scare a few years back), runs very well, handles well for what it is, and I'm not a very rough driver.

tl;dr When do you think I should start looking for another car? And what similar options would you recommend? I'm no Honda purist but I used to valet at the local casino and I always loved any Honda new and old, as well as Toyota. I need something that can haul my band equipment (bass guitar, amp, speaker cabinet, etc.) which I could honestly probably fit in even a Civic, but the extra room is nice. The Element is something I've been eyeballing, too. What do you all think?

I am now the proud owner of a 2000 Honda Civic Si in Electron Blue Pearl. Unfortunately I don't have any pics yet, as it's in the shop getting everything checked out. I need to make about $2000 of repairs, but my warranty will cover most of that. The air intake, exhaust, hood, gauge cluster, radio, shift knob, and rear wing aren't stock, but I'll be replacing those as soon as possible. The air intake is effectively just a pipe right now, the exhaust is a custom job that's fine, but it's just not stock, the hood is from a different 2000 civic, the gauge cluster is, I think, a 5th generation Si gauge cluster, the radio is just some shitty Walmart radio, the shift knob is just a random, slightly smaller shift knob without the baseball stitching, and the rear wing looks to be from a 2004 civic EX. All in all pretty simple fixes to get it back to stock except for the air intake, and I know some guys.

Heater hose did the trick! Car doesn't overheat anymore. I guess what happened was the coolant was slowly leaking most of the time I've owned the car, and that led to a near empty radiator, in turn resulting in overheats. The steam was the water evaporating from the block into the heater hose and out the tear, exacerbating the distention of the hose itself. Eventually the hole got big enough to spray considerable amounts of it quickly, which is why I seemingly couldn't keep the radiator full.
We gud now tho.
Next step is to tackle the fuel pump which MIGHT be causing me to lose so much power.
>>
>>17457362
Very nice. Fuel pump should be easy but don't rule out injectors. Just one going bad can sap a lot of power.

Yup, they're not that great.

I'm touching 40 em pee gees every now and then, but it dips quite a bit with the AC on, so it's hovering around 38 overall for my short commute. Above what it's rated for (31/38, 35 combined), but there is no way to get around its hefty curb weight. It doesn't like pulling long hills on road trips because the battery is small, and the IMA system fights itself the whole time by assisting and charging constantly.

your gearing will determine mileage more than anything but the 1.6s will be better than the 1.8s. honestly the main difference between a b16 and d16 is going to be top end, they breath soo much better. once you are up in the powerband you are drinking fuel regardless might as well go fast

Hey guys I got into an accident with my 2003 v6 accord the insurance company let me keep it as a salvage
Think I can just pick up a new bumper and replace it?
Or is it to fucked?

I'm planning on just going to the junk yard and picking a new bumper from there and I'm currently working in ordering a new housing for the light

I bought a 2000 Civic Ex today for $1400, old lady owned, with everything bone stock. It runs and rides smooth, cold a.c. and everything, except for idling high when in park (~2000 rpm) and making this kinda pulsing noise.
I replaced the idle air control valve, which helped, because before it was doing it while the engine was still cold, but now it doesn't begin doing it till it's warmed up and been driven awhile.
My stepdad and I have been trying to figure it out all day, but haven't been able to. It's really just a minor annoyance and the car runs great otherwise, we just can't pin down what's causing it.
The truck is what I've been driving up til now
>>
>>17459089
Very nice purchase.

Does it have a fast idle thermal valve? That's another thing that can cause idle issues. If it's not that it could be the ECU. I had bad idle problems for a long long time and it turns out part of my ECU was fried. Getting another one fixed it right up.
>>
>>17459108
Thanks.
I don't know if it has a fitv, but it was pretty dark by the time we thought to check for that and I'll have to check tomorrow. We spent a good part of the day at pull a part, getting little things and looking over engines. I've only worked on early 90s Chevy motors til now, so this is a new experience for me. I didn't think to check the ECU.
>>
>>17459152
It should be a thing on the bottom side of your throttle body, if you have it. Mine doesn't so that was ruled out for me. I'm sure about EKs but in my EG the ECU is underneath the carpet in the passenger footwell. It's most likely there for you too. Very easy to remove. After it's out just unscrew the smooth side of the ECU cover and give the board a close inspection for any burns or anything like that.

You got any pics of your engine bay? I think I can tell you if you got a FITV or not. Pretty sure I'm using an intake manifold from one of those Civics.
>>

Pic related is legal in Canada in December. Worth getting over a TSX given that for the same price as one, you get the K20, LSD, and factory Recaro seats?
>>
>>17461013
That car is nice, but drive thrus and tolls are gonna be a bitch, I'd buy a CL9 and play games with the ECU for more performance.
>>
>>17461020

I can probably deal with those inconveniences, since I had a look at my local CL9 prices and they are on average 2-3k more with double the kms than a CL7 even after shipping and customs. The dealbreaker would be getting a steal on an early CL9, but the manuals are in limited numbers here.

I watched a long video of it with Honda Pro Jason and it looks way better than the first gen. It's more of a camping truck as it has a lot of little things that benefit camping. Has speakers in the bed and they even sell a tent that fits in it.

Changed my sparkplugs and fuel filter today. After changing the plugs I got a plume of white smoke out of the exhaust just for a split second. I noticed the plugs were covered in oil, and I'm guessing that means the valve cover gasket is bad (which I already ordered but won't be here till wednesday). Any other ideas for what would cause it?
>>
>>17462580
Yep it's basically an evolution of the Aztec and Honda Element.
>>
>>17462646
That's probably the issue, additionally, the ambient humidity can result in water vapor being produced in your exhaust, especially when it's rainy or at unusual temps.
If the valve cover gasket doesn't fix it, it's the lower chamber O rings, which are annoying to fix if you're not a confident mechanic.
>>
>>17462668

Finally figured it out. When the idle air control valve had gone bad, the owners son had shortened the throttle cable to keep it constantly running and letting air in, which is why it was idling at 2000 rpm.
Then when we replaced the iacv, it was trying to balance against the that. So, we just moved the cable back to it's default position, and bingo, it's completely fine.

I am looking at getting my first car.

If you had a choice between a 2011 Civic LX-S and a 2013 Civic LX (both are automatics, about 80,000km, and Canadian, the 2011 is about $11.5K and the $2013 is about $12.5K), which would you choose? Going to be a commuter vehicle with mostly highway usage. Also Canadian/Ontario winters with salted roads.
>>
>>17465716
>The Honda Civic LX-S model is the next step up after the Honda Civic LX model. It features the amenities of the LX, as well as a leather wrapped steering wheel, rear spoiler, improved trim in the interior of the car and more.

The LX-S sounds a bit more appealing.

But yeah, they're all rotted out. I only know of one, and it's only a shell. If you really want an older car, either settle for 1995 and newer, or go out of province to get one. But since 'salt province lol', I'd leave them where they are. They'll last decades longer in NB or Ontario than in NS.

The previous owners, (3 minimum, far from the bukakke of owners Shingu's poor Civ had) were gentle on the mods and heavy on the abuse.
When I got it, it had
-ricer red brake calipers w/ genuine JDM rust
-ricer red brake hoses where they didn't bother masking them
-Phone holder in one of the cubbies
-JDM style hubcaps, with genuine Carbom Fibre patterned duct tape Honda badges
-an attempt at Japanese-style wiring
-yuge battery, which is extra cranking amps. It's staying.
-remote starter delete
-cable delete (to hood, gas door and trunk
