the price is reflected in comfort, fit, sound insulation, ventilation, brand name and ergonomics.
If your sole concern is safety, you need not buy an expensive helmet.
But given that it's an item you'll wear every time you ride, it's worth spending extra to get something that isn't intolerable on your head.

You're correct, it does depend on the intended use of the bike, but sometimes a drift might save your life.

Redpill me on Michelin Anakee Wild.

I went to the shop to order a pair of Heidenau K60 Scouts or Mitas E07 and they had non on the supliers stock, so they offered me a good price in Anakee Wilds.

Should I bite or should I order the Heidenaus online? Or should I order the Mitas?
>>
hey, could I get a bit of advice?
As it stands I can't insure a car right now, and I need some way to get around to a workplace. I'm wondering now about 49cc laws, and if that could be a practical option. My insurance rates are totally fucked (2 accidents, under 20, please don't ask) so I'm wondering if it's worth it to try to go this route or just find some other way to make money without paying out the ass for some zippy tin contraption. Also would these laws even apply if the bike is capable of 50mph, or am I getting motorcycle insurance at that point. Bike in question is a yamaha rx50, and the only bike experience I have is an abusive relationship with an xr80.
I'm about ready to kill myself, so any and all spoonfeeding on the subject would be highly appreciated.

if your in the US you still need a m-class for most scooters, you're better off with a 1k-1500$ 250cc motorcycle. insurance is cheap(i was 23 when i got one with 2 accidents as well), just take an MSF, get a helmet jecket adnd gloves for around 300 bucks, go get a licence for 10 bucks and enjoy
>>
>>17400931

I know here, moped laws state its only a moped if its automatic, if not then its a motorcycle and you need a motorcycle license to operate.

Call some insurers and get a quote, we cant spoonfeed you that cost.

I have one. They can go fast when you want them to and they can also go slow. If you aren't impulsive and have some self control it will be a fine first bike.

I still recommend learning on a dirt bike or dual sport since dirt skills help immensely on the street, especially when you hit gravel or other low traction patches
>>
>>17401326
haha yet, I almost shat myself when I drove ever large rocky road. Slipping very easily.
>>
>>17401280
A super sport is a poor choice if you can't moderate yourself. Or are prone to panic.
Or get caught in weather. Or on poor road surface...
You know. If it can go wrong, you're increasing the risk.
But if you're compensating for a small penis, or are okay with only riding on ABSOLUTELY PERFECT DAYS, go right the fuck ahead.

I suggest something from the new CB500 series. It's powerful enough to dust most cars, but weak enough to keep control if you're not pantsu on head retarded.

Weak motor for a cruiser, sure, but very affordable for its class. It can still go highway speeds without beating the hell out of the engine, though. I'd wager it's the DCT and ABS that make it feel weird.

I'm a bit terrified of an overly powerful bike since I'm just starting out, but I want to at least be able to take it on the highway.

I figured the a 300 would be good enough for that but not so much I end up doing stupid shit and becoming an organ donor.
>>
>>17401585
No, they have like 75HP compared to about 120HP of 600s.

If you're getting a sub-400, go cbr or r3.
A Honda will chill at redline for days on end, without detriment. R3's are meme machines, but faster than the Honda, more reliable than the Kawasaki.

Now that the recall is sorted, the new cbr300r is slightly better, but the 250's are dropping in price fast.
>>
>>17401585
no, quite a bit less (65-75 vs 95 (f4i) - 120 (newer R6))

though there are some pretty crazy race sv650 builds, but then again that usually entails boring out the cylinders, so they're really 700s or 750s
>>
>>17401598
They all go fast enough to easily kill you if you're dumb. A 300 is capable of highways but it's pretty miserable at it. Passing is sketchy and the engine is pretty much wrung out.

I'm on the third year with my 250. Keep your head on a swivel so you always have somewhere to go.
80 mph is all you need, as long as you're patient. If you're easily intimidated, go for the 500. 650's are misfit machines, made to beat import laws after Honda and Suzuki 750's embarrassed all the western brands.
>>
>>17401639
Basically stock except for tall sprockets my DR650 would hold 81 MPH across the NM desert highways. I can probably get a good bit faster with my jetting kit and airbox modification now.
>>
>>17401662
Misfit machine? Is the bike bad or is it just hooligans buying them?

My vote is for r&d direction. Big Red has always been one for the long view, and rumour is that they're putting everything they have into electric development so they still have a business in 20 years.

Right now, the only fruits of this research are gas misers and the skynet-assed, box of neutrals-assed, late to everything-assed fireblade.

So yeah. Get ready for Honda to disappoint speedfreaks for a couple years, in the name of survival.

Look up the tolerance in your Chilton manual. The throttle should be partial at all times, but I think that's a function of the carb itself, at the idle screw.

"Hayabusa" means "Peregrine falcon"

>The peregrine is renowned for its speed, reaching over 320 km/h (200 mph) during its characteristic hunting stoop (high speed dive),[5] making it the fastest member of the animal kingdom

Seems more likely that they named their bike after the Peregrine Falcon because it's the fastest animal in the world rather than because it eats blackbirds.

What worries me is that when I got home tonight, the chain seemed very loose again, even though the axle was at the same marks it was when I tightened it up on the highway.

Will re-tension in the morning and punch an index mark to be sure. Have a new set of sprockets and chain, but still need to track down a master-link rivet tool before I tear her apart.

She's doing good m8. Taking some time off work to deal with the baby.

I have a mouse/rat living in the engine bay of the truck. Luckily he hasn't chewed up anything important yet but I assume it's only a matter of time. It's been mostly sitting too but I'm driving it to try and scare him off haha

They can be tenacious lil shits in NM... I popped all the spark plugs and then cranked the truck to build a little oil pressure before actually trying to light it off. Still took a few minutes of cranking off and on for it to light and stay running but it's back to normal now, complete with P1494 showing in the OBD reader. Kek

/dbt/ should i trade my old vfr for a 2015 ninja 650? Im doing it because its a really old bike and it will value every year i keep it, its probably going to be worth $1500-$1800 next year if im lucky. I love the bike but its pretty old and nobody would want to buy it because of that.

The sad thing is wr250r riders believe this.
my bike struggles to do 220kmh and even that is not fast enough in terms of acceleration when overtaking sometimes, i would hate to think what it is like passing a B double on a bike that tops out at like 125kmh.

Rite bike are not covered by a lot of financiers because of their suspect business practice. Stolen bikes, lost recovered undeclared, cat d and c undeclared. They even sell off parts, if its got a seat cover they sell the original seat that sort of thing. It's 4k. Insurance will just write it off automatically.
Used to work at state farm. All motorbikes are immediately considered for buyout, just because the administrative costs of finding a competent bike shop and hiring a contractor to inspect are so high. Sometimes before repairs are factored in, the claim handler will just dump it.

Give the paper pushers a couple weeks, and follow their instructions exactly. Also, call the car's insurance company and say your neck hurts. Even if you were in the wrong (spoiler, being rear ended makes you 100% right), you are entitled to file a claim with both companies.
Doing both, in your case, allows insurance to get at each other faster. The faster they work out what to offer you (and who will do so), the faster you get paid.
IF YOU HAVE INSURANCE, FILE WITH YOUR COMPANY TOO. You pay for them to advocate for you, and they do so to save themselves money.

If you don't want to go fast, 300 is fine. Even on the highway you should be fine, they tend to top out around 90 mph which is fine for the freeway. It's just if you want to ride hard, you'll want the nicer suspension, brakes, and racey geometry on a supersport. IMO the power is less important than the rest of the package. I would recommend against a 600 for a starter though.

You pay insurance to do it for you.
Since you have actual pain, go see whatever kind of doctor you can afford. They'll give you a general exam, probably recommend you see a radiologist too.

From there, you can get that sweet chiropractor money. Tell them you're going, get examined (chiropractors always find SOMETHING because they don't deal with exact damage. They realign cumulative strain.) And attend regular appointments until you get a settlement. This will include enough for a few years of chiropractic care, which you can pocket if you're minor enough. Otherwise, free repair for the misalignment from whatever previous spills you've taken.
Physical therapy is actually effective at reducing pain, though. Do the full course of that shit. (Used to be stationed with wounded soldiers, one of the few definitive treatments they would pay for while the patient is still enlisted)
