>>
>>17346294

Wheelie kids and college student sportbike bro squids are the worst riders. Cafe racers are the most faggy, pretentious of the bunch. Harley boomers generally follow the rules of the road, but are shit in their own way mostly by nature of being boomers and riding for image more than anything (similar to cafe fags).

"Dirt bikers" needs to be broken down a bit. Motocross kiddies rarely ride on the road but there's plenty of monster energy tools in the community. Dual sport riders are usually some of the most chill riders you'll encounter.

Basically, you can count on any rider who doesn't own more than one type of bike to be shit in one way or another.

That's retarded. Only two of us are going and we're both going on bikes. Why wouldn't I carry my own gear? I don't need a fuckhuge tackle box or anything, everything I'll be bringing fits into a box about half the size of a shoebox. Just going to be catching trout and panfish anon.

>>17346622

If I catch anything, I'll clean and cook it right there on the shore. You guys don't bring a bag of fish fry batter and a and a backpacking stove with you when you fresh water fish? Just lake stream fishing, nothing like you'd get out of the ocean.

I'm not joking at all. The entire reason the piece of metal is crimped and welded over that nut is to keep it in place and hold it there so you don't need to get a wrench on it to hold it or worry about it falling out and getting lost.

This should have been obvious to you.

They have some sexy looking buells if you do them up right.

But my 05 firebolt makes same neighborhood bhp as a R6 that year. And peak horsepower comes online twice as quick as an R6. (Granted a 12r has TWICE the displacement)

My Buell is pretty comfortable for short round town trips up to about a 2 hour ride which is 90% of what I do.
And their priced well
Got my Buell for around 3,000
For a fuel infested Harley 1200 sporty it would cost me twice that.

The Vstrom is the most different of the three. I'm not super familiar with it, so I can't say.

Of the DR, XR, and KLR, which one you get really depends on what kind of riding you want to prioritize.

The KLR is a fucking pig in every way, and I would honestly only recommend it if you want to lazily roll around on highways and shit 90%+ of the time.

Between the DR and the XR it's a toss-up. The XR is by far the most off-road competent of the group, and is really rewarding for a rider that is willing to learn how to flog the shit out of it in rough terrain. It's also really, really tall to the point where it could be a problem for riders shorter than about 5'10. The DR is shorter, and comfier in general. Probably the best overall balance if you want it as an off road and around town bike.

They all have huge aftermarket availability, easy to find cheap parts, and good track records.

I've got the XR and have no regrets. It's a fun bike wherever you ride it, but holy shit is it fun to romp through rivers and forests. When I'm just commuting in town though, sometimes I wonder if I wouldn't have been just as happy with the DR.
>>
>>17346812

Oh, I should state I bought the XR when I was asking pretty much the same question as you because I had previously owned 3 Honda's and 1 Kawasaki, the KLR didn't impress me, and I was kind of a Honda-fag in general (still am).

If you're literally doing the "café racer," why not see if there's a local coffee roaster you could visit?
Learn something, drink a cup that isn't burnt to charcoal.

...because that's the secret to Seattle style coffee. They just cook the shit out of it, then sell it to you at a premium.
Go to an actual roaster, cup so fresh it doesn't have to be charred to retain flavour.
(Unless you just want a cup o sugar. If it involves a blender: not coffee.)

I want to pick up a DR650 and get it ready for a XC trip, pretty much just looking for mods that people like, or a pannier or luggage setup that will let me store a Jerry can somewhere. Google turns up anything and everything, so I was curious if there was a repository.
>>
>>17347304

Not that I'm aware of. Thumpertalk is a good place to look, but beyond that you're kind of on your own.

I'd say look at Wolfman Gear for your soft luggage needs, PMRacks for racks (I have a set of their side racks for my XR and love them). If you want to carry large amounts of fuel, look into a rotopack setup. If you just want a couple of extra liters, get a couple of Primus / MSR fuel bottles and Wolfman bottle holders for them.

There are some very common, popular mods that are highly recommended for DR650 owners but I don't remember what they are because I ended up buying the XR. A little searching around should turn them up.

Also check out procycles DR650 page, they collect a lot of neat things in one convenient place.

a lot of americans can't ride in traffic or around corners.
all they can do is straight empty highways. they are experts at that.
he should try riding in london, or any major european city. tiny streets, corners, roundabouts and much more traffic, especially busses.
he will be crying tears.

DL650 owner here. I agree with the other anon, it's not really a dual sport. It's a heavy bitch and is best suited to maintained roads that an Impreza could manage. It's the most "modern" of all the bikes you listed. Take the KLR off your list, it just plain sucks at everything except being a rolling cockroach. I love the DL, even if it isn't the most inspiring bike and is fucking ugly. Super reliable, 55 mpg. It works perfect for the type of riding I do, which is mostly on road with occasional gravel/dirt roads. Also has room for camping gear and is comfortable to ride for hours on the highway. I use 70/30 tires.

Sup fellow riders. I'm building a bike from scratch... Frame and motor based on a 91 Suzuki TS200R two banger with forks and wheels off an mc22. Thinking mini rgv knock off, full fairing, twin disk and under tail pipe. I have two TS200 complete bikes and wanted to motard one as they both have compliance plates but decided on the racer instead and restore the other. My dilemma is how to wrap it, do I go old school rgv/fzr 250 fairings keeping with Suzuki fairings of the time period or modify a custom tyga set to suit. Thoughts?

Safe is heavily dependent on how retarded you are
I'd say any small bike is easy enough
If you want highway look at the 400 or 700 class
If you can't into manual try the NC750 before resorting to scooters

none of them are "safe", just as no unarmored car is "safe".

Any bike with a linear throttle and torque is easy to ride, so look for I2 or V2's with around 50-70bhp.

SV650 is best desu

I'm talking about his body position.
His head is directly over the tank, it should be down by the mirror, with his chin down by his mirror, with your arse off the bike too, in line with your head.
and i bet his arse is still in the seat.
that's not how you do it, unless you want to crash.
the point is to change the bikes centre of gravity, by altering your body position, whilst keeping the bike as upright as possible for that corner, to maximise tire contact area, and thus maximise traction through the corner.
Sitting on the bike like a plank of wood and tipping it over like that is not fast and completely stupid and your front wheel will wash out very easily, because the entire weight of your upper body is been driven down into the front forks by centrifugal force, and with such an angle, you have less rubber on the road, and a lot less traction.

my understanding (and that disclaimer is an invitation to correct me) is that the amount of lean over you need to safely corner is affected primarily by how fast you want to take it and how stable you want to be.

>speed
low speed (driveways, cones, etc): crossed away from turn
medium speed: body in line with bike
high speed: leaned into turn
one could argue that "high speed" starts much sooner than you might thing and that the posted webm is showing "high speed". That's fine; all I'm trying to say is that there exists a range of speeds for which sitting straight is appropriate for optimum cornering.

>stability
the more you lean, the more unstable? you become. Leaning is to maximize traction, not stability. Source: pic and article where it comes from http://www.therideadvice.com/the-evolution-of-motorcycle-body-position/
Early racers crossed up because it made them MORE stable (at the cost of of traction and therefore speed) because the chassis / tires / no electronics bikes they were riding were much less stable than today's. Conversely, today's bikes have more inherent stability and traction (electronics and tire compounds) and so riders don't cross any more, they lean to get more speed (at the cost of some stability, which they can afford).

I see you have the Ninja 650R in your "too upright" group; have you looked at the Suzuki SV650S? the S on the end is important; it is much more tucked than the no-S version - is only 7 degrees straighter than the R6 you posted.

Are you looking for an adult first bike, a supersport, or a superbike? because I see all three on your cycle ergo.

generally speaking, a supersport is a bike that can race in the 600-or-less class, and a superbike is a bike that can race in the 1000-or-less (barring some exceptions for engines that aren't i4)

and yeah I agree with >>17350232 as far as checking out Honda's VFR series. Bandit is Suzuki's GSF, which is naked and I'm assuming you don't want that. Have you looked at the GSX-R's?
>>

pic is motogp bikes with racing chassis, stiff suspension, and most importantly, super soft racing rubber, which has almost as much traction at the edge as it does in the middle. They are sat upright because there is no alternative way to sit at such an extreme bike angle, and they are at those angles because their racing bikes and racing tires allow it.
is the guy in the webm on a motogp bike with racing compounds? no. so why are you even bringing it up. you might aswell tell me about how bicycles go around corners, because there as about as much relevance.
>>
>>17350261
i like how the kawasaki naked looks (750cc+) , but i see it too thin for me
then a supersport , i'm forced to a 250cc or a limited one to that for 2 years anyway
checked the GSX-rs ,i like those

Just wait two years and get a used tuono, gsxs, blackbird, or some other comfy fast bike. Most fully faired sport bikes aren't super comfy, cept the new fireblades and most Sport touring bikes.
Or get a superbike/supersport and adapt to the position. They aren't that bad even if you're a big guy

touno looks good , blackbird is a hayabusa?
>>
>>17350609
>Blackbird is a Hayabusa
Nah, it's slower and a little lighter depending on the year. They also don't have a meme tax and arent solely ridden by niggers
They're both comfy and very distance-capable though, so similar bikes.

And the tuono is very good, no wind protection (previous gen) but when you don't have buffeting wind it isn't bad, I have ridden 300miles on the highway on my dr650 and wind didn't bother me
