I saw one on eBay, but I just don't think I should pay like 400 for it. If somebody saw one on their local classifieds and was willing to ship it that'd be cool. It's a long shot but I might as well ask.

>>

I still drive it because it's my only car, but I'm looking for a cheap used crankshaft so I can pull the motor and change the bearings.
It's got some unhealthy boost leaks, but I figure fixing them and applying more psi to a spun bearing is a recipe for depression.

Need your advice guys, 1988 celica gt, 2.0i.
171'000 km and 2000€, but it needs some work done, the exhaust is leaking and the handbrake is weak.
Should I contact the guy and buy it, or am I getting into a moneysink ?

So my MR2 has some play in the steering, and it will drift from side to side as it drives straight. I'm thinking it's the little bushing in the steering rack that holds the passenger side front inner tie rod that's worn and needs to be replaced.

Have any of you ever experienced anything like this in an AW11?

>>
>>17295024
Just replaced the outers and the inners seemed completely fine. All the ball joints are brand new. Everything is pointing to this bushing or my rear tie rods. Hopefully it's as simple as I think. The car should be super stable after this.

I had this problem in my sw20. the suspension is about the same so..
Jack up the car with the wheel on and grab the wheel on the 9 and 3 position and wiggle. if it wiggles then it's your tie rods. now try 12 and 6, if it wiggles up and down it's your ball joint.

now here's a possibility that's retarded as fuck and happened to me, the CONTROL ARM BOLT IN THE R E A R was loose and it caused my car to steer itself randomly so do check the rear

btw good luck with the steering rack bushing bc mine snapped while going in

How much oil consumption can one expect from a 1zzfe with 115k? Pic related.

Also wondering about the long term durability of coilovers. (K Sport Kontrol Pro's @ ~$950) as opposed to Monroe Quik-Struts/Regular struts as a daily driver that sometimes goes on bumpy gravel/dirty roads/shitty rough mountain roads.

Are coilovers typically going to last 40-50k mi like regular struts? And yes I've already got good tires.

Depends on driving style. The higher you shift, the more you'll burn oil. I recommend staying below 3K rpm. Just get a set of raceland coilovers if it's available for your car.

Grips and handles well despite slow steering and pedal layout is great.
Insanely reliable, can run another 80k miles without an oil change.
Watch out for rust. Only fault it has. Rear brake dust guards will rust and fall off at one point but that's just car getting to an age where it tells you it wants to become racecar by starting to shred weight. Nothing to worry about.

Hey guys I've got a problem but not sure how to track it down.

My alternator started to smoke, so I replaced it.
New alternator wasn't smoking and no smells either.
I drive it for a bit and decide to drive it hard.
Battery light starts to come on then.
Pop the hood and I can smell the new alternator burning.
Get another new alternator, this time a proper DENSO remanufactured one.
Crank up the car and the battery light is still on.
Replace battery.
Battery light is still on and I can smell the alternator burning.

Battery voltage is 12.5v with car off.
Battery voltage is between 13.5 and 14.2v with car on.

What possibly can be the issue? I can't seem to figure out.

I've read online numerous times that a bad serpentine belt can cause
this issue, so I ordered a new one. Should come tomorrow.

Car is a 1998 SC400.
>>
>>17319406
Is anything leaking into it? It's a common issue with 1uz cars that the ps pump will leak into the alternator and kill it... Or so I've been told.
>>
>>17319217
Camber cam?

>>17319406
It could still be the alternator. My brother had to replace his alternator three times. The first and second ones lit up the battery light in his Mustang too. These were also alternators from his work (Ford dealership). So with that being said, every remanufactured part is a hit or miss regardless of what brand it is.
>>
>>17319900
There is a small leak, but it's not even hitting the alternator, if it did it would make sense why it killed the last one but I think something else caused it.

>>17319932
There is that possibility but the newest alternator that I got was tested, I don't think the newest alternator is at fault but I'll still keep that thought in mind.

I'm trying to see what other possible things can cause this to happen.

It might be a bad ground, I had a similar issue in my Tacoma, cleaning an reconnecting the engine ground points seems to have fixed it.

Any chance you've degreased the engine recently?
>>
>power steering hose is leaking, but it's not pissing out

Any cause for concern? It doesn't seem like my alternator is getting anything on it.Other than a weeping HVAC actuator, this thing has been reliable enough so far.

Replaced my steering rack bushing today. The car tracks so much straighter now. The unfortunate thing is that it still sways occasionally. I'm starting to think it's the rear tie rods because I know they're ready to go. My rear struts are also a little soft so I'm thinking they might need replacing as well.

Any ideas or advice?

The visor has a bunch of spider web cracks in the surface but it's solid.

It just feels like the steering wheel is pulled one way or another. I know the rear tie rods are bad and the alignment is fucked as a result. I think I'm going to order the updated ones from Twos-R-Us and put those in

What you need to do is follow the negative wire off of the battery and locate any place that it connects to the chassis/engine block/etc, when you find the connection points using a multimeter check for continuity to the negative terminal clamp of the battery if it has any significant resistance you may want to look at replacing the cable, after you do that, unbolt the actual connection between the wire and engine and hit everything with some sandpaper to remove any corrosion and ensure you have metal to metal contact.

With my Tacoma, decreasing the engine caused the main engine ground to have a bad connection, this killed the voltage regulator in the alternator, checking all of the engine grounds and replacing the alternator seems to have fixed the issue.

I had to replace mine, which were 170mm, a pain in the ass because of the weird support bracket they're mounted on. I had to bend the lip of those brand new speakers to make them fit.

I couldn't find a decently priced 170mm equivalent with the correct shape. Pioneer has one model, but I can't find a retailer in my area.

So, bit of an update on this. First cold start today, it starts, it keeps chooching, however, I don't get that usual behaviour, having higher idle as it warms up, then going down to normal operation, it goes straight to 750rpm, and it stays there, from the cold start to operating temperature.

After that, I drove for about 30min, it runs fine, no power issue, it warms up as quickly as usual, so is this something I should worry about?

my current ucf10 is one of the poorest condition ones out there......but for $300 I couldn't pass up the offer

someone tapped the front left fender while the car was parked and there is damage......thank kek they left a note

so basically I'm about to receive around $2900 ($2989 according to Kelly blue book, nada doesn't do earlier than 98) from state farm and I am going to use it to buy another LS because I love these things so much......question is, which generation?

the model years I'm interested in are 90-92 and 98-00 (95-97 look too much like avalons and I hear there are issues in the 93 and 94)

I'm wondering if I should go for a super clean ucf10 or a sorta worn ucf20 face-lift

I might be leaning towards getting another ucf10 because it'll be easier to boost if I ever decide to do so (because stronger block) and there's a better chance of the interior still looking pristine.....also there is some sentimental value as my parents bought a 90 when they got married and I was taken home from the hospital in it after birth

the ucf20 face-lift has VTAK BRUHH and a bit more of the bippu aesthetic but all the ones In my price range are either black or have nigger wheels on them

also I already know cars (especially ones from the 90s) don't pick up girls (at least not the good kind) but I'm gonna be going on a date with an 9/10 (in my eyes) qt in this car and I'm not sure if she would be more impressed in an older cleaner car or a slightly worn newer car when I go to pick her up

Shitbox Supra. The right environment can make your forget how terrible it really is.
>>
>>17341332

I have a 93, and other than a leaking power steering return line and hitting the dashboard to make the tacho and speedo work in the morning, it's been fine. The 92 UCF11s models got a brake upgrade and different lower claddings.
>>
question for people who know about 7M's:

My supra is in the shop getting the turbo rebuilt right now and I was thinking of asking them if they could torque the head bolts to 75ft-lbs to try and mitigate the head gasket issue. I've never had the head gasket fail on this engine and when they tested it for leaks they said it was good.
So my question is, is it fine to just torque the bolts more or should it be done with new bolts?
>>
>>17343699
Retorque the old bolts as long as they haven't been removed. Or you could do ARP head bolts and an HKS metal head gasket now and know you're good

Can't go wrong with a 90, 98, or 99. I recommend 99.
>>
>>17343699
It's a wildcard. sometimes torquing the bolts late in life can warp the gasket and cause it to happen faster. sometimes It's not like that. I would honestly ask them to replace the headgasket now and torque with ARP bolts. I've been beating the ever loving hell out of my car since I did that and it hasn't popped yet.
>>
>>17341332
I personally think the early years look better. Do you actually think you're going to spend the large amount of money required to boost it though? I'd put a manual trans in there first.
Also, girls don't really give that much of a shit about your car as long as it's not a total shitbox. plus having an uncommon car makes your sort of unique and a novelty.

Hello /tg/ had my sc400 for close to a year now and just swapped out the old suspension for some bc coils and tie rods. Now I'm hearing a slight squeak and "shaking" sound from the front of the car. Only makes the sound when the engine rpms are coming down after I rev it. Friend told me it could be the idler pulley but I'm not too sure. Also my idle while warm is sitting just above the second notch on the gauge while in park and comes all the way down to the last notch while in drive. What can/do I need to fix?
>>
>>17345322
Try to capture it on video
Are you talking about the temp gauge? It's probably a wiring or contract issue
>>
>>17345407
*contact
Like behind the gauge cluster
>>
>>17345407
>>17345409
Not the temp gauge it's the rpm gauge that's reading low. I think that it's accurate and it's a issue somewhere else that's causing the lower idle
>>
>>17345220
Thanks for the advice. I don't have enough cash right now to pay them for the head gasket job on top of everything else they're doing, so maybe I'll save up a bit after and try it myself later this summer
>>
>>17345526
If you just wanna torque the headbolts, that's easy to do yourself. Just buy a torque wrench and return it the next day.

update from >>17341332

this will be the last weekend I will spend with my current ls400......it will be dropped off at a shop on Monday for evaluation and, most likely, a totaling

I'm considering making a montage video of revs and burnouts before dropping it off at it's potentially final destination

I was also thinking about how much easier it is to fix an issue with OBDII

>>17345234
if I were to boost an LS, I would want to make it similar to a Merc S55 or something......I love manual gearboxes with all my heart and believe every modern sports car under 700hp should have one but, even with those weak shift solenoids and 4 absurdly tall gears of the factory auto, I still feel that vehicles like these are not the place to do such a swap unless you are going full racecar with the thing which nearly defeats the purpose of having a full size luxury sedan

I'm pretty sure she's going to see an ls400 as a grampa shitbox no matter how pristine it is....I'm just wondering what the best form of damage control is for the situation........older and super clean or a decade newer and relatively clean?

>>17343039
idk man.....I was doing some business with GS400Guy and he told me that it was a good thing that my car was a 92 and not a 93......I think he said it was something about the seat mechanism but I don't entirely remember

also try searching junkyards and part out ads for a new cluster but keep in mind that the odometer is mounted on the cluster itself so make sure you swap the original odometer into the new cluster before installing to avoid accidental mileage fraud

any spyder owners here?
I got 8.5" wide ET13 wheels in rear with 205 tyre on it. And previous ricefag owner has lowered my car nonsensically low.
While it is #hellaflush, the tyre is catching onto the lowermost under part of the wheel arch.
Is there any way to fix it or should I just wait until I get coilovers and rise the car a little?

That looks pretty good sand pie, how did you clean it with the degreaser?

>>17349520
When does it happen? When turning or just driving over uneven surfaces? What's the exact size of your tires?
If it's turning, your wheels are too wide. If its from uneven surfaces, your car is too low and can be fixed with lifting or camber plates.
>>
>>17349839
Latter, rubs under hard cornering or going over bumps. Car is too low rn. Rear left tire mostly, rear right gets rubbing once I get a passanger.
Wheel doesn't have enough offset but lots of people run them fine. I think the car was lowered too much.

Does anyone know wether TRD suspension can be lifted like some coilovers or do you need new springs?
>>
>>17349846
Can you adjust the height or dampening on yours?
Gibe link to trd suspension, I can't find anything. I doubt it's height adjustable.

Thanks.

Just leave the engine running, spray the shit out of it with degreaser, let it sink for a minute or two, then use a low pressure karcher (or high pressure from further away if you don't have a choice). No rubbing involved.

A lot of the LS400s in my area are either, gone, dead, or fucked, so getting a new cluster would be difficult. I bought it with 143,000km last year, but am debating to either keep going with it, or get an Altezza or 04+ Crown Athlete in a couple of years when the latter is legal in leafland.

maybe check connections and make sure everything is snug

if that doesn't fix it, look at the logic board for loose connections, blown capacitors and burnt areas

just got one myself ('89 LE wagon), not looking forward to doing the sparkplugs
they all get terrible mileage, expect 20MPG despite driving conditions or style
mine has 140k miles, and was driven hard and maintained well for the first 12 years, then neglected to fuck
they're not as well rust proofed as a third gen camry, and the 2nd gen V6 isn't as good as the 3vz-fe
>get mine, was used as mail delivery vehicle

Blacktop.
And I'm talking about the stock Supercharger that came with the AW11. Maybe an SC14 if you wanted to go a little bigger.
>>
>>17357037
Idk anon think of it this way
An engine that you have to rev the fuck out of it for it to go fast and pay a good amount of money for replacement parts or an engine that's stronk and is easy to get parts for if you need to replace something but it's power is lower than the 20v
>>
>>17357052
Not that guy but the Blacktop is relatively okay to maintain and parts aren't that expensive outside of the VVT gear that might rack up 500 bucks for a replacement. It all boils down to preference, some people like a high revving NA engine so they go with a 20v, others like the torque out of the SC so they go with that.

i dunno both are appealing desu
