They don't make it easy to revert the car back to euro spec either.

Caymans are coupes, Boxsters are roadsters. Otherwise they're the same car.
It used to be the case that the Cayman got bigger engines as well, but not anymore.

I had a rental diesel Cayenne twice while getting some shit checked on my car and they aren't bad vehicles. I get what you're saying and have no plans on ever buying one myself unless I suddenly had a family w/ kids and needed an SUV.
A neighbor died and he had a 928S4 that he babied. Should I ask his widow if she wants to sell it? Or would that be rude?
>>17294328
Wait for some grieving at least.
>>17294328
The 928 are wonderful cars, but they're extreme costly to keep up and it's not uncommon for most shark owners to spend $2-3g a year in maintenance costs. It also may be in the shop for a while if you need parts as it is an old car and getting the part needed can take quite a while and cost a lot.
Having said that if you can afford it and it is not going to be your only ride I would look into it.
Having said that listen to >>17294337 as she might get pissed off and donate it to the goodwill or salvation army rather then let you get it.

because people the cayman is more of an enthusiast car, and enthusiasts are autistic and feel special because their car is a little stiffer than the boxster
try and get an S atleast. i would avoid the non S's as they're much slower and 5 speed.
just look for signs of shitty ownership, clutch wear/ interior wear etc. as i said earlier caymans are more enthusiast cars so they get beat on more often than boxsters, which are more of a weekend car. 987's don't have ims issues so i wouldn't worry about that.
>>17314140
Weren't all 987s 6-speeds? I know non-S 986s use an Audi/VW 5-speed transaxle, but I don't think the 987s do.

So, if you had the money to buy a brand new porsche, would you buy it with a manual or with the pdk?
I think the PDK is just about how quick and reliable dual clutch transmissions are going to get. Things aren't going to get damarically quicker/better.
Even if the PDK wasn't a 5000$ option i would stick with the manual i think. It's got so many gadgets that make driving it so much easier like holding the brakes in hills, automatically blipping the throttle for you, etc..

if its base carerra its complete shit
GTS and above the only thing worth buying
>>17314190
>>17314152
what exhaust / model is that turbo?
>>17333112
I kindly disagree
>>17333126
base carerra
>no exhaust
>no sport mode
>maybe has PASM if he bought it (?)
It has no power to it and feels unspecial
>>17333134
Those are all options you should get
>>17333134
????????????????????
>swap exhaust out for something better than what porsche offers, save 5k
>why do you need sportmode ? save another 5k
>why the fuck would you want PASM? are you not a real man? save another fucking 5k
the base carrera is the best of all the 911 line, and the one with the most potential.
>>17333230
sport mode is essential
i dont know how to describe it, but the engine is far more responsive and "stronger".
>press gas with sport mode off, car is dull, slow
>press gas with sport mode, car is extremely quick
its absolutely essential
nigger.
>>17333420
>$5k throttle remap and tune
>>17333420
I would assume the engine is the same, and sport mode simply adjusts the throttle response. You could probably do that on your own and adjust it to your own preferences.
At least I assume
>>17333420
yeah maybe i exaggerated, sport chrono is the only opion you really need though.
>>17329784
>RWB
>not completely slammed or on ridiculously big wheels or tires
Dang that RWB build must be old as shit
>>17333494
Agree
>>17328020
>He just did it on purpose so he had an excuse to overtake everyone again.
The absolute madman.
>>17333499
>tfw no old school RWB kit on a qt german air cooled gf
Saving up all muh shekels to try and find one of these beauties... wish me luck
>>17334073
luck has been wished
May I ask why a 356?
>>17334073
>saving up
nigga you don't save up for a car like that.
You need to make serious dosh
>>17334181
356B's are cheapo though.
atleats compared to the classic 91 and 356C
>>17334073
There was an anon here selling one for like $30k
>>17334690
NSXs we're cheap too, then I made enough money to afford one but they doubled in price
>>17334717
same thing with air cooled 911s
>that episode of Modern Family where Phil bought a 964 for like $19k
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icFmVEidCis
>>17336302
>944s selling for 5 digits
>>17337640
the sorted ones go for 15-18k euro here in germany
>>17312832
I like it, those headlights make it look sleepy or even stoned compared to a normal 911
>guy in a 964 comes to see my Boxster and make an offer
>it's for his wife
GG 986 bros
I swear you could get decent 911s for under 15k just a few years ago, what the hell happened?!
>>17340636
Jalopshit made an article about how the IMS is a meme and people started realising that they're good values
Unless you mean the air cooled 911s, that just the classic car bubble. NSXs and what not doubled in price as well
What do you guys have to say about those cheap Porsche Boxsters from the early 2000's?
I got a nice summer job and want to replace my beater with something fun and foreign. Miatas are too girly, but I want a small roadster. If I buy a Boxster, will I end up paying something like double the price in maintenance? How many miles should is too many? Is the S model worth it? Any particular years? I want to daily drive the car.
>>17313837
groce, it looks like an eclipse here
>>17340691
Fun cars, basically the cheapest Porsche that's actually reliable.
Don't get one with almost no miles on it, the engine is actually more likely to have serious trouble on low-mileage garage queens than on cars that were actually driven. I personally prefer the looks of the 2003+ bumpers and litronic (HID) headlights, they make it look much more modern.
Definitely get an S if you can afford it, and get a pre-purchase inspection done. It's worth spending on to avoid potential major issues.
>>17340691
I hope you can wrench on cars, preventative maintenance is key and labour charges for these things is ridiculous
Mechanics will tell you that they need to drop the engine to change out spark plugs, but they just want to charge you more. All regular maintenance can be done with the engine in the car with just a few extra steps which isn't bad at all since these cars don't rust
>>17340721
>>17340768
Thanks guys
How much mileage is "too much" ? I bought my first car based on the idea that it would probably make it to 300k with maintenance but I don't know what to expect from a Porsche.
>>17340787
I have like 125k miles on my car and it's running great
To good to be true?
>>17341142
More details? Non-S models can be had around 7 grand if decent shape with a bit of luck.
>>17341142
That's $1373 above average
>>17341167
>>17341223
I know its pricey, but I can't find many other black boxsters.
>>17341269
Black paint is a bitch to take care of
>>17341269
For 10k I'd at least like to see a hardtop included or a shitton of options on there. Judging by the first pic it's pretty low-spec (no Litronics for example, pic related).
>>17341295
>>17341305
Alright, thanks. It just looked like such a nice car for 10k, thought it was good deal..
>>17341324
Try haggling for it.
>>17341324
You can do better for 10k. If you could get the seller down to something like 7k, that'd be a nice deal.
>>17341142
for 10k you can get an S
avoid non S boxsters, honestly. It's worth the extra 50hp and 6th gear.
>>17342146
Unless you wanna go spec racing, 2.5L only
10 days GG /pog/
>>17342282
yeah, lmao.
and woa
eat shit /bmw/ general
