The 928 are wonderful cars, but they're extreme costly to keep up and it's not uncommon for most shark owners to spend $2-3g a year in maintenance costs. It also may be in the shop for a while if you need parts as it is an old car and getting the part needed can take quite a while and cost a lot.

Having said that if you can afford it and it is not going to be your only ride I would look into it.

I had some weird behavior from my litronics last night, 1 went out after driving across some really shitty roads.

i cycled the headlights by turning them off and on again and both lit up perfectly fine and it hasn't happened again since. What's up with That? Im going to pull out the headlight later and hope its just the connector. If it presists ill replace the bulbs.

because people the cayman is more of an enthusiast car, and enthusiasts are autistic and feel special because their car is a little stiffer than the boxster

try and get an S atleast. i would avoid the non S's as they're much slower and 5 speed.

just look for signs of shitty ownership, clutch wear/ interior wear etc. as i said earlier caymans are more enthusiast cars so they get beat on more often than boxsters, which are more of a weekend car. 987's don't have ims issues so i wouldn't worry about that.

So, if you had the money to buy a brand new porsche, would you buy it with a manual or with the pdk?

I think the PDK is just about how quick and reliable dual clutch transmissions are going to get. Things aren't going to get damarically quicker/better.

Even if the PDK wasn't a 5000$ option i would stick with the manual i think. It's got so many gadgets that make driving it so much easier like holding the brakes in hills, automatically blipping the throttle for you, etc..

is it easy to delete the soft top?

I literally only take my hardtop off once a year for a week or two before getting bored. My top is in good condition but the window is completely yellowed and fucked, and i think removing it would be nice weight loss in the middle. And allow for more space below the hardtop.

can you post how the back of your car looks without the soft top on the inside?

The soft open and frame come off with when you undo like 4 bolts on each side. I got it out myself but I suggest you get someone to help you take it off the car to avoid scratching the paint

Same thing with the window on mine, yellow and cracked, it was setting water in and didn't close properly

Dunno about BMWs but I just removed the entire frame for the soft top mechanism, only thing left in there is the transmission for the folding mechanism

What do you guys have to say about those cheap Porsche Boxsters from the early 2000's?

I got a nice summer job and want to replace my beater with something fun and foreign. Miatas are too girly, but I want a small roadster. If I buy a Boxster, will I end up paying something like double the price in maintenance? How many miles should is too many? Is the S model worth it? Any particular years? I want to daily drive the car.

Fun cars, basically the cheapest Porsche that's actually reliable.
Don't get one with almost no miles on it, the engine is actually more likely to have serious trouble on low-mileage garage queens than on cars that were actually driven. I personally prefer the looks of the 2003+ bumpers and litronic (HID) headlights, they make it look much more modern.
Definitely get an S if you can afford it, and get a pre-purchase inspection done. It's worth spending on to avoid potential major issues.

Mechanics will tell you that they need to drop the engine to change out spark plugs, but they just want to charge you more. All regular maintenance can be done with the engine in the car with just a few extra steps which isn't bad at all since these cars don't rust
