My first ever bike was a mini moto.

Top speed of 20 mph. I have never felt more free in my entire life.

Offroad, onroad, on your back. Literally a motor to take with you anywhere.

On my first day I drove through forests, slept in a farmers field, drove on the highway, drove at night with head-strapped lights (white pointing forwards, red pointing backwards).

Now I have a 125 cc I can go further and faster, sure, but I dont have the freedom.

Considering selling this and getting a street legal mini moto tbqh.

I did it /dbt/! I bought my dream bike!
2011 Hayabusa with 22k miles on it. The guy kept it in MINT condition, i dont even see a single scratch/wear anywhere.

Question though. I've been driving a CBR500R for a year now and I'm used to shifting a certain way and I feel it's going to make me power wheelie and get killed on this new bike....
Any advice for shifting on bigger bikes?

I had a shadow for a little bit, it was fun but after riding it I realized I wanted something comfortable that I could put like 2000 miles on in a week, but also handled good.

It was either this or a hornet 599 and this was cheaper and a much better deal. I still pop around on my dad's Harley, but it was a little disappointing. I still want a dyna because Harleys sound great and are cool.

I also don't own any guns but I enjoy shooting them.

Hornet us probably better, but I got a smoking deal and no Hondas where for sale. I got this with 6.5k miles on it for 3 grand, and I am pretty happy. Riding a bike with a 14k redline is fun.

Aftermarket blows, but now that I've got a new screen and sliders on it, I'm pretty set. I might put an exhaust on it but I don't think it's worth it. Only thing I need now is a power port for the phone.

lul, all the reviews I read of it (couldn't test ride one yet) always said "hurr it has such good power in the mid-rev range" but I always knew that's bullshit

it's a fucking 600cc engine that was detuned from an already pretty mingy supersport, of course it's gonna be a bit gutless. but that's not its intended use anyways
>>17281792
yeah, honestly, I'd love to get an aftermarket on my bike, but If I wasn't the one that installed it, thanks but no thanks
>>
>>17281794
Well the initial turn in was nice, and the chassis actually handles the weight well. The problem is that because the bike is so low, and it has these massive footboards, you have very little available lean angle.

The initial turn in butthurt was really pleasant though. The whole seating position is funky when you've been riding something more aggressive.

because there's an inner shell underneath the plastic outer shell of your helmet, and if that breaks, the structural integrity will be shrekt and you can't even see it. in case of a crash, your helmet can not 100% protect your head anymore.

this can already happen at just knee height onto asphalt. I used to work in a motorcycle clothing store, and we binned every helmet that an employee saw getting dropped from higher than knee height.
>>
>>17281924
Why does your country hate you?
>>
>>17281915
Yes. Helmet external surfaces show impact damage, especially since impact is accompanied by abrasion unless you manage to land then stay on a stiff mattress or fat chick at high velocity.

>>
>>17281940
You should have sawn some of them to check for damage since they were getting binned for liability reasons anyway. They aren't champagne glasses.

Really old helmets outgas so I wouldn't use them because plastic embrittles with age. That's a far greater concern. You can see embrittlement effects on old auto interiors many of which are also ABS plastic.
>>
>>17281945

>>
>>17281963
Not him, but I started on a 250cc suzuki marauder.
It got up to 60 mph easily, 65 mphsoon after, and I could make it reach 70 mph with a lot of screaming from the engine. Thats about 110 kph
>>
>>17281962
For mysterious noises there aren't always standard replies because vehicle systems are complex. Pops can be suspension, engine, transmission, shifting body or other parts, etc.

Best way to get closer is check with a similar vehicle user pool, which you could be doing in other tabs right now. Sending you off on a wild noise chase would waste YOUR time, so I avoid doing that!
>>
>>17281963
I've gotten up to 85+ mph (~ 130 kph) on highway. I regularly do 65-75 mph though for my average commute. I kinda want a 450.
>>
>>17281977
Impressed that you brave the highway on a 250. What year is it? I've never heard of a 250cc cruiser reaching 85
>>
>>17281954
honestly, we had some people send in very high quality helmets like shoeis or schuberths to the factory where they would be x-rayed, only then you can see if the inner shell is damaged. Doesn't make any sense with a 200€ of course.
>>17281960
I mean there is no guarantee to this, but you definitely have a risk of severe head injury when the inner shell is compromised. Of course you can ride with a dropped helmet, but from what you say, I'd wager it's proper fucked

Again, there's no guarantee that the shell will be broken, but honestly, I wouldn't take the chances, especially not when it's about my head

>>17281964
well, liability reasons do have their basis somewhere. And you are right, the compounds of the shell do deteriorate, we always said for ABS shells 5 years and for carbon 10 years, but there are so many different factors like storage and how often you use it
>>
>>17281969
Oh, nice dude. I've heard there's some really beautiful rides around there. I'm currently living in the Baltimore area so most of my rides consist of getting on and off various highways.
>>
>>17281940
You're a fucking retard bud. Stop spewing that horseshit. Dropping a helmet from knee height isn't an issue. If that was the case then helmets wouldn't do shit at high speed impacts, they would explode. Any helmet manufacturer will tell you that simple drops off your bike or wherever else in your house will not compromise the shell of the helmet. There's no micro layer underneath a poly carbonate shell either, you mongoloid. It's an injection mold, and fiberglass helmets are hand laid and impregnated with resin in a vacuum.

You know jack shit.

Not untrue. Go tell anyone working at Arai that dropping their helmet on the ground is voiding the integrity of the shell. They will tell you otherwise. Small drops do not affect the shell, but if you drop it down a few flights of stairs you may have an issue.

>>17282010

I was the same way- the first time I got on the highway I had a buddy of mine drive in front of me while I tailed him just because Baltimore drivers are insane. But now it's really the city that gets to me, especially with the traffic around here. If I get home at the wrong time I find myself stuck in first gear and literally walking my bike on I-95.

Man I can't wait to get in a good multi-day ride. A couple buddies of mine just keep camping gear in their saddlebags, and I really want to go with them.

Yeah my main reason is just the ability to take longer highway rides. Smoother highway handling would be nice too, since it gets a little shaky and windy at top speed.
>>
>>17282068
Fuck Yea! Motoadventures best adventures man.

I avoid traffic hours at all cost. The strip at the va beach oceanfront gets ridiculous during the tourism season. I've rode on sidewalks before to get outta that shit.

But yea depending on what kind of trip and how long, my buddies and I will split up supplies accordingly

I'm confused.
I am using most of my tire, I get very good lean on (or at least I'm told).

But not once did I drag my pegs (which I understand is not a good thing to begin with), not even the huge ass extender on the pegs of my SV have been touched.

Are the rear-sets just that high up and it's physically impossible?
>>
There's a used VROD at a local dealership I'm considering test riding. Give me a reason why I shouldn't test ride that phat bike.
>>
>>17282001
If you own a business and sell defective protective gear that resulted in someone getting injured you are liable, it might seam overkill to bin a helmet that has had a small drop, but it's cheaper than getting sued because one of your customers dies wearing your helmet
>>
>>17281909
This a terrible trailer design. What ever happened to 60/40
>>
>>17282159
How could someone prove that the helmet was initially defective after a crash?
Not trying to defend the argument, I think using a helmet that has compromised integrity is dumb, just playing devil's advocate to your argument.

Also any of the 300cc "stater" bikes I think I'll be going with while I develop my skill more. I know some people say I'll get bored, but I want to start on something lighter and maneuverable ideally.

I'm totally new to this world so I don't know kind of bike I'm into.

Hey guys- new rider here, I've been noticing recently that my speedo is off- generally running 3-7 mph under what my actual speed is (as measured by my friend driving behind me in her car). I looked it up and it seems to be a common problem with bikes in general. Has anybody else noticed the same thing with their bike? Does anybody have any easy fixes for this (or at least any ideas on how to get a better read on my actual speed)?
>>
>>17282116
They're not low enough you would expect to drag them all the fucking time.

Touching down has to do with more than lean angle, it also depends on ride height. So for the same lean angle a heavy rider going really fast/heavy on the brakes/whatever on bumpy pavement with low preload and low tire pressures is going to drag pegs at a lower lean angle than a light rider cornering gently on throttle but not accelerating hard on smooth pavement with high preload and high tire pressure..

I think the joke he's trying to make is that Harley is so fucking garbage they had to go to Porsche of all people to help build them a motor which makes the same power as a sport bike half the size and 300 lbs lighter. Therefore it's not a Harley, it's a Porsche.

Coming from a cruiser it will feel strange, but the first time you get above 11k rpm you'll be hooked. It will become second nature to stay in your gear longer. well apparently my bike (cb500f, hi guys it's me yes I still love the bike) is notorious for stupidly low clearance with the footpegs (pic related, but not me)

maybe I just gotta get better at choosing a line. It doesn't seem to happen at high speeds but in low-to-moderate speed corners it happens all the time

Being ugly is not a curse if you can accept the fact that you need to get with equally ugly people to get laid.

Once you do accept that you will get more pussy than most "beautiful people" because you get all the girls they would never touch and there are more ugly girls than hot ones in the world.

No worries then, just don't flip it like a retard because it will bleed past the rings if you turn it upside down and soot up your valves.

Hospital staff did not save my gear, it was cut off and thrown away since they followed spinal injury protocol or w/e.
My current nurse is fucking nuts.I don't have a catheter so I thought I could just get up and piss. When i got out of the bed she barged in the room and threw a fit. then stood outside the door while i went..
>get me out of here.
On the bright side, I've been browsing the local CL all day and found a couple bikes i want to check out.

Always stay conscious and wriggle out of your gear. Lost a custom suit because of a broken leg and passed out before I could get my ass out of it. Adrenaline will do it for you in almost every case save spinal injuries.

>My current nurse is fucking nuts

These days nurses suck major balls. Try going out for a smoke, or just stirring from your bed in general. They'll ignore that buzzer and forget pain rounds all day, but if you aren't where they want you the nurse ratchet will kick in.

I had people smuggle me beer and kfc. If you're off the iv and onto pain rounds, just oxycontin and the like, two beers in an evening is good stuff and wont kill you, will just make you drowsy.

If you've still got a morphein drip it might make you a bit sick.

If you're mobile (can lift yourself into a wheelchair or use crutches), just go find a garden outside and go nuts. At most hospitals you will find a couple of cancer patients choking down a blunt outside with staff just pretending that it isn't happening. They don't 'condone' it, but they also do nothing to stop it (makes them less nauseous and miserable).

>>
>>17283623
By spinning that shit
>>
>>17283636
It wont spin, I even took pliers to it.
>>
>>17283623
Am I being rused? Don't you have a knob at the end of your lever mounting point that you turn to adjust?
>>
>>17283643
Its probably broken, hit it with a metal punch or hammer.
>>
>>17283651
Yeah thats for adjusting the clutch play, but the little wheel i posted is supposed to bring the clutch inwards or outwards.
>>
>>17283623
press out on the lever to relieve tension then turn it

Its scary knowing there are people on dbt that are this obsessive over keeping track of shit.

what type of autism causes this anyway?
im guessing some form of high functioning one.

I have the last six dbt threads open in this window, and usually have more than that, i just close the oldest ones when they start to lag my browser out. I used to do the same thing in the eve online general - payed off big time when i was able to make a collage of a *happening* that spanned about a week and a half. Here, I usually catch up on old threads before starting new threads - so the guy posting replies to comments halfway through the previous thread is 70% probably me.

I use a chrome extension called Spaces that allows me to name my chrome windows and jump to them with an autocomplete window, so I keep a space for basically every program, game, or subject that I use. Here's the spaces I have open and some of my closed ones, sorted with most recently used at the top. The spaces I have open right now have 53 tabs in total.

>high functioning autism
well, yes, I guess. I ran an eve online corp for a couple of years and am a computer science student at one of the top tech unis in the world. also i have the adhd pretty bad.

I am not stalker anon though. I do admire his autism, I used to do that in an IRC I hung out on, but I don't have time for that any more.
