got her home eventually but it keep dying on me she has about 11k on her any ideas on what it could be? was thinking it was some kind of overheating issue has fresh coolant and didn't seem to have any leaks.
>>
>>17224355
How recently was the coolant changed? Usually the bike should tell you it's overheating.
Did it just suddenly turn off or choke to a stop? Do the electronics go black when it dies?

It could be a shit electrical connection or a faulty killswitch, key contact, or kickstand switch.
Also test the battery with a load tester.

Not him, but I think cheap low displacement bikes are the key to getting new riders in.

If motorcycles could just be seen as fun, economical transportation a lot more people would start riding imo. It works for europe and most second world countries.

Ninjettes are extremely cheap and still handle incredibly well. Yet people still choose to start on supersports because even they are cheap.
>>
>>17224884
I'm a little skeptical. I agree that money is an issue (and space/having somewhere to put the bike as well--see Jack Baruth here http://jackbaruth.com/?p=6653, and the Moto Guild guys are doing great work in this respect), but I think that very few people would be in the market for a 200cc runabout for pootling about town, just because the US population is so much less densely urbanized than so many of the places you're comparing it to. And also insofar as there is demand for that kind of transport in the US I'm not sure why somebody would get a small-displacement ICE motorcycle with manual transmission instead of an electric scooter or an e-bike--range is less of an issue, top speed is less of an issue, lower maintenance needs, quieter, lower emissions.

IMO, the speed, the danger, and the fun are what motorcycles have going for them. Maybe you can use scooters, etc., as a kind of gateway drug, but I think it would be better to go at the problem directly. Then again, I don't have a clue how to do that.

(And to add--I think the >don't want to associate stuff is basically https://twitter.com/bronzeagemantis/status/865200532532736000 --secondary to increased cost of land and energy. But maybe I'm wrong.).
>>
>>17224884
>If motorcycles could just be seen as fun
They already are. Most people in the us don't have the balls to get on one and learn. They are also the people who never hit jumps and shit on their bike when they were kids for the same reason. They are just pussys.

Cars are just 1000x more practical for just about everything. Motorcycles are toys and nothing more

Itsa good start for sure.

I know this is autistic rambling now, but in the 70's honda went huge with the "you meet the nicest people on a honda" campaign, and that along with cheap motorcycles actually worked.

I think its why cafe/retro bikes are making a comeback no, no negative associations with other riding groups (hipsters dont count) and they are cheapish. The cheapish basic 400cc scrambler was even ducatis best selling bike for a while.

Entry level fun minus the cheap feel of a shaky piece of shit bike the manufacturer doesn't actually care about, in the vein of Japanese 400ccs. The one thing that drives riders away from shit like a gs500 is luxury. It looks, sounds, feels, and handles like a cheap bike. Some people are mature and put up with it like they put up with their first car being a 2k corolla. Other people get the gsxr600 and never rev higher than 7k.... Intentionally. Because they want something that's nice all around.

A European can get one of many truly cool Japanese 400s because there's a market there
An American can pray for an sv650, which is already kind of a compromise in the cool/luxury department.

Also remember, big engines drink fuel if you ride in traffic and command higher insurance rates.

Low displacement bikes will never sell in the US because you need to take a highway to go anywhere and speeds routinely cruise at 85-90mph in most of the country.
>>
>>17225276

I have a KLR. 90mph, or about 140, is winding it at high rpm.

I re geared mine because I was traveling on hi ways daily. 16 Front and 39 Back. Lost a lot of power but was much better at speed. But a stock KLR won`t last long riding all day at 90mph.

Yeah I ride a KLR and know its functional and somewhat adequate on a fast highway but it its not good at it, and different sprockets doesn't really help that bigly.

That doesn't say anything for low displacement bike the dizzer. Even being a shitty 80's bike made to price the KLR outperforms the most modern 250cc bikes.

Basically, you need a minimum of a 650 displacement bike to survive on the roads in the US.

No, apparently he didn't yeld at a stop and the car was going considerably fast. I guess he thought the car saw him and would have slow down.

Cars over here accelerate when they see you to pass first. I've almost got killed by a scooterfag on the stripes once.
>>17226038
No. Two complete different things.

Who the fuck would ever compare a motorcycle to a bicycle? You are a burger as the other guy suggested, in the end.
>>
>>17226056
Yeah, bicycles are for hobos and hipsters, and motorcycles are for men.

My mom is a doctor. Every two days or so tells me how she has seen this guy who got into a motorcycle accident and has broken legs, or perforated lungs, or broken ribs and so and so.

Shit happens bro. Just try to ride safe.

Yo /dbt/, can you tell me about really old timey bikes that could be wheelied? I thinking about bikes that predated WWII.

Pretty sure you can wheelie anything as long as you know how to use a clutch

Well, me, for starters. All the pro racers who cross-train on bicycles also seem to strengthen the comparison (there was a pic posted on an older /dbt/ of three or four mop-topped nineties GP legends chilling out on their bicycles at the start of a race, and see also Guy Martin riding the Tour Divide.).

They're both fun, no need to get your tits in a knot.

Among others. The first time you see water somewhere in the house that there shouldn't be water is always fun.

I rode a bicycle on the street for quite a while before I ever drove or rode a motorcycle, and it was only after I took the MSF course for my license that I realized that a bunch of what my dad had told me about how to ride a bicycle in traffic was also applicable to motorcycles. And all the most technically-skilled mountain bikers I know have pretty extensive motocross experience. IDK senpai.

So guise, I'm getting a bit sick of going through traffic to get to work and was considering getting bike license and buying one for the commute and odd weekend joyride.

Browsing the local used market I fell in love with the R45 series.

How retarded would it be to get one as a commuter/first bike?

I just love classic cars and bikes and would love to own one to love and maintain.

If you don't mind wrenching/paying someone to wrench for you, not bad at all provided there's nothing seriously wrong with it already.

The R45 was designed as a beginner bike.
You might need to learn the basics of wrenching, due to age but that's about it.

I actually don't mind wrenching and actually enjoy doing mechanical work. I also have a private garage for storage and repairs.

In case something goes wrong I can always go back to the car to get to work.

My 2013 CB500 only had one disk.

This is awkward. Your mum should have had this coversation years ago.
>>
>>17227074
Seals the leak. It works with radiators, a fuel tank is a basically a radiator with gas in it.
>>
>>17225795
yep, sans the frame, which is red, as the bike itself used to be. it was painted this way when i bought it.
>>
>>17226470
That sucks dude. I hate politicians, and their BS rules.

I wish we didn't have mandatory helmets - if I want to feel the wind in my hair while ridding my bike, I should be free to do so.
So much for a free country...
