I like dual sports but it kills me to only have 40hp. A 70+hp dual sport would be amazing to me. Do larger adventure bikes ride like lightweight dual sports at all?
What about "super"nakeds? They look like they have the ergonomics of dual sports kind of, but not the ground clearance or tall seats.

I wish I had the opportunity to ride more bikes.

Because they're a middle ground between uncomfy sports bikes (personally I have back problems so super sports are out of the question) and big fat wide road tourers.

Good call. I guess I always ate and drank in restaurants on the longer tours (4+ hours) I did in the last 2 years, or was too busy chatting with [insert riding buddy here]. I stretch by standing up while riding (airs out the crotch area as well). When I take a piss I'm always itching to get back on the road so no photos there either.

Red pill me on the WR250. I'd love to believe the have-it-all (at a price) hype, but I'm dubious. Particularly whether it'll be doable cruising at highway speed for hours. Also about luggage carrying capability (I assume the rear subframe is useless to keep weight down)
>>
>>17120543
>cruising at highway speed for hours.
NO.

I have a KTM 690 single. Have done loads of sport touring on it, have 10k miles on it. Its vibey. It's pain on highway slogs. That WR250? Is about 100x worse in every painful way.
>>
>>17120552
You're speaking from experience?

It's entirely plausible that a smaller single revving higher would be less vibey than a big one revving lower.

>>17120573
...example: a DRZ or DR350 cruising at highway speed are way smoother (in terms of vibes, usable mirrors) than a KLR. Of course they're also working a lot harder.

The WR, ideally, would be an even starker example of that (holding high revs, but being smooth doing it)

Is there a reason 'adventure' bikes have fixed headlights in the fairings? (Seems like the way to turn anything into an adventure bike these days is to do that). Seems to me that a headlight that turns with the steering makes a lot of sense especially off-road.

Can't decide between a Honda CBX 550 and a Yamaha XT600 Tenere.
Are they even good beginner bikes?

If it's he 390 motor it'd be making like 40-45hp, which is more than adequate. That's more than an KLR in a bike that'd presumable be far lighter and with more gears.
>>
>>17121384
Your wheels don't stay pointed in the wrong direction during countersteering, but you would be flashing people in the oncoming lane sometimes.

390 duke does highway breddy gud, and is a 6 speed gearbox. No reason to think the 390 adventure would be any less highway friendly

>>
>>17121384
countersteering motions are actually really small, to the point you won't see it in your headlight. What actually happens is when your wheel flips over from the countersteer back to the inside of the corner, it points almost directly at the ground giving no distance vision when leaned over any decent amount. It's only slightly worse than fixed headlights since their headlight beam turns sideways too. Fixed headlights will shine directly into oncoming traffic too.

I'm still more interested in the T7 and 790 adventure, if they're light enough they'll even kick the current 650 thumpers in the ass. And even though the 390 will be lighter the extra power and smoothness of a mid size twin will be nice for any road riding.
>>
>>17121412
Alright I'll look into it
>>
>>17121424
this. I would really want a midsize twin in a dirt bike chassis. Too bad the RXV550 isn't reliable or it would be really tempting as an adv bike.
>>
>>17121368
If you're going to be doing a lot of touring the hayabusa is pretty comfy while still being fast if you dont mind the extra weight, and along the same vein the zx12r is good too, comfy fast but a bit heavier than a normal liter bike
>>

>>
>>17121424
Honda just needs to stick the 500CC twin from the CB500s into the CRF250L Rally and just win that market.
>>
>>17121473
someone here put a Ninja 650 engine in a KLR650 chassis. It sounds like a pretty good compromise for a mild adventure bike, but it made a pigfat bike even heavier and removed some ground clearance.

It's is not a commuting bike, nor a touring bike, nor an offroading bike. Also, it's small - so it seems like the people who are ok with with dropping cash on impractical things (or maybe that's too harsh, maybe just "non-optimal" is what I mean) would be more likely to be buying the 600rrs, the gixxers, the busas.

In fact, the only place I've seen them ridden that wasn't in a review was in a video some guy posted of their first trophy in a regional 300 class race - but there, it seemed like half the track was on them (the other half was on r3's).

The Japanese 250's and 300's are baby's first sportbike:

Damper-rod forks (see RaceTech's website for why that sux)
THIN damper rod forks
backbone frame
ABS is extra cost, though it's the biggest safety advance since the radial tire
and they give you bias-ply tires instead or radials
Also, small power even for size

The 390 duke:
43mm UD cartridge forks
4-pot brake with Bosch 2-channel ABS standard
radial tires (mine came with Sportec)
steel lattice parimeter frame
40HP
315lbs

in other words, it's a modern motorcycle with up-to-date tech, not a dumbed-down or cheaped-out bike with nineties technology.

Also, wheelies, etc.

Only arbitrarily, that's the same as clubs allowing 636s in their middleweight class because asking amateurs to go find one of the 599cc ones is retarded. Fun fact, WSBK has a new support series this year for A2 bikes where the Ninja 300, R3, CBR500R, and RC390 are all allowed and -not one fucking team- is racing the KTM.

Anyways the primary market for the KTM 390s is being a poo in loo status symbol, followed by "that guy" with an A2 license, and finally richfag who has to get a small bike to convince his parents it's totally a good idea but still wants some tryhard thing.

Abs is for numales. Learn how to threshold brake, your stopping distances will be reduced
>>
>>17122531
Sure there's a reason it's more expensive. It's not a bad bike; it just seems like an odd offering. People who are looking at smaller bikes probably also want cheaper bikes, and don't know how to wheelie, and don't know what a radial tire is or why it might be important. But people who are ok with spending money and know they will want to wheelie and want to carve down canyons are probably going to get a 650 or an FZ or something. The 390 is the premium small offering. It's niche, kind of like a mini cooper or a smartcar.

(I don't know what a radial tire is or why it's important; desu I've been putting reading about tire types on a back burner so far while I absorbe other stuff.)

The babby ninja, what I was thinking about.

Forks are good. 6 inches travel, with a long / soft top-out spring, which is all the fad with the sportbike makers these days.

Brakes come with a 300MM front rotor and Carbon-ceramic HH pads which get better when warm. Very not grabby. If you like grabby, EBC will sell you sintered. Some people like grabby brakes, I dunno why.

I find the American financial system very odd. It's always weird hearing others talk about a system you've thought was right since your birth. But just a few pointers.
>Credit score
It's been weird hearing you guys needing to finance things in order to finance bigger things. It really seems like a trap. It's like you get a pat on the back for getting into a debt and it seems like your parents would suggest getting into debt as soon as possible to build credit
>Financing vehicles
I don't understand why Americans need to buy the newest most expensive vehicles. Where I live if an 18 year old financed a new car he would be the laughing stock of the town for living beyond his means. Why don't any of you just save up?
>Credit scores
It seems like if you get a loan and prove you can pay it the bank/financial companies say "cool, let us give you more debt" and then you get loans for even more junk. I have 1 credit card which I use for petrol and food and pay off in full every month. Never charged interest. I've brought all my vehicles with cash, started with crap, saved while I owned then when I had the money upgraded. I just brought a brand new CBR with cash. I just took out a home loan for 500,000 and the bank said yes because they could see I saved regularly. They said they wouldn't have given it if I had vehicle loans etc, exact opposite of your financial system?

Good credit means: no loans, no debts, paying your bills.
Me having a credit card (even though I pay it off automatically every month) actually makes the maximum mortgage I can get lower.
Taking out loans here isn't advised or good, except for businesses.
