Biggest reason why we haven't done AC series before is because the game was missing a lot of functionalities that we require to race.

Series organizers are just tired of rFactor and its flaws and want to move on to newer more up to date content. Everyone is free to organize series despite what SJ wants others to believe, but believe it or not it requires some effort from the organizer. Not just a "we should race X in Y someone make this".

If your series doesn't get much interest it's not some shadow gobirmint trying to ruin you, your idea just wasn't good.

By the way half of those races there are duplicates.

>it requires some effort from the organizer
Honestly, hosting a server isn't a lot more than just launching the dedicated server and giving people access to the content. It's not hard at all, just takes a little bit of time. Which is why I don't understand why people keep going "we should race X in Y" instead of actually hosting a server and making it happen.
>>
>>17085607

this is true but in rf1 the chance of a random bug fucking shit up is pretty high

just ask around about how much effort went into making the Ultimate GT3 mod playable
>>
>>17085607
It requires *some* effort, varies a lot what you want to do.
If you're using a mod that hasn't been raced before you have to test out the content by yourself and/or get people to test it for/with you, this applies to the cars you're using and the tracks.
If you have points you're going to have to give penalties to people, this requires you to watch each race replay based on incident reports.
If you have skins you either have to do those skin packs yourself and fix most peoples .VEH files because they ALWAYS fuck them up.
Then you just need to keep the google doc up to date, make sure all the links are working and update the skinpacks and points every week.

In some cases you can just host a server and tell people to show up at a certain date and time.

Those are just what I can think of.

Yes, the T300.

>Everyone is free to organize series despite what SJ wants others to believe
Except that's bullshit and you know it.
When someone is hosting something on Saturday, and instead of bothering to do anything with it you put your series on at the same time purposely, that's not allowing other people to organize shit at all. It's happened not once but twice now where a series got fucked by GT3 scheduling and was forced into cancelling. When anything was brought up regarding it, it's somehow the smaller series' fault and not the asshat that scheduled a conflict.

Also, most people don't like to do more than one, maybe two races a weekend. There's plenty of times where something on Sunday was tried but people were already exhausted from racing Saturday and didn't want to show up.

Point is, people are able to host whatever, but only the main guys on mumble really have any sort of successful playercounts and series.

>I hosted a series when I'd barely fucking been here. Stop being a bitch nigga SJ
And I've been for years, and everytime I do I get shut the fuck down.

Touring Masters? Died because nobody played it outside of when GT3 got cancelled two days before the first race, while Valrys scheduled it at the same timeslot as mine.
VTCC? Died because GT3 S4 was starting at the same timeslot, then it was moved an hour later but that didn't work because people "got burnt out playing two races back to back" and had to be canned.

The only one left is my trackday server, and even then I'm already having doubts on bothering to organize it when A) Nobody will show up and B) I get shitposted to fucking oblivion even talking about it on my chan.

For being "open to everyone" there's a lot of bullshit hurdles I have to go through even to play a basic racing event. Even when I do I get accused of wrecking or hacking which isn't fun either.
>>
>>17086038

The only hurdle is doing something interesting. If people want to do it they will show up

>The only hurdle is doing something interesting.

Touring Masters was using Group A cars on old 80's and 90's layouts of tracks, even by OVGTP there were some tracks that were played too much. The purpose of it was supposed to be interesting things people didn't normally touch.

VTCC was a grab bag of various tracks nobody had raced either since the previous series (Touring Car Thursdays) was a success. The racing was decent and at times surprisingly good, however once GT3 S4 scheduled a time conflict nobody wanted to show up after being exhausted from racing GT3 earlier in the day even after changing the timeslot.

I tried to do some variety and do shit people weren't used to after people complained in the thread about doing the same tracks and cars over and over. Instead I get told FUCK OFF SHILL and other bullshit that is demotivating as fuck to continue to bother trying to organize.

nobody wants to race on a shitty laptop server that lags horribly when more than 10 people have connected but no one visibly complains because you don't listen anyway

people get worn out after racing two heats or want to take a break.

Why not try hosting racing series late at night Saturday like from 9:00 to 10:00 PM EST? Think outside the box.

>nobody wants to race on a shitty laptop server that lags horribly
I don't use a laptop server, the only time a laptop server was used was during Laguna Seca and Sebring during GT3 S1. It was during Road America that I set up a permanent server, but with 40 some players showing up the load was too high. Even Kita's server was having some trouble with ~20 from the reports I got.
The server box got a facelift in time for VTCC which was what it ran.

>but no one visibly complains because you don't listen anyway
That's not an excuse. I set up an entire section of discord to use to bitch and moan at me about things but nobody used it and decide to act like passive-aggressive assholes instead. You could have bitched on Steam but nobody did, so when I get no feedback on anything I assume what I'm doing is good to go.

>Why not try hosting racing series late at night Saturday like from 9:00 to 10:00 PM EST? Think outside the box.

Problem there is the time conflict for Europeans, it works well for Americans but at the end of VTCC about 60% of the server was Europe. I did use Sunday, but the same issue arose when GT86 started: I had to reschedule my schedule since GT86 put itself on same time, and people were burnt out racing two races in a row.

>>17086085

>this general is full of malicious shitposters (as is any community that's regularly active on VOIP programs) that will bring down more ambitious and on-topic focused users, whether it's for a cheap laugh or in fear of losing their group dominance

I've been examining other generals on /vg/ while blowing off my frustration at the merrymen and this is a recurring pattern, /ovg/ is no exception. People will rather play a bad server with a server host they know/like than play a good server with someone they either don't know or don't like. I can think of two instances specifically in the past two years that happened and it divebombed the entire generals into oblivion as a result.

You don't think it's because they work together as friends to make this shit happen instead of alienating everyone around them?
You have a huge swathe of time in which you could run a racing series.
Nobody hosts racing at like 11 PM EST or anything, it's all in the middle of what would otherwise be a productive American wageslave working Saturday so the Europoors can clog the track on their weekend off. But you keep trying to squat on this slot in time. I don't get it.

No, it's not. I hosted two and all I did was make everything myself and make sure that nobody was running series on top of it by asking people what they were going to do.
Your series that you had were outside of /ovg/ threads to begin with and a lot of people who follow this thread didn't follow whatever board you were using(8ch?). Also probably because there is always more interest for GT3 than any meme bullshit.

>but only the main guys on mumble really have any sort of successful playercounts and series.

Probably because they also put the most effort into their series and communicate with eachother so they don't end up running shit series for 6 months on tracks that only existed in Sonic the Hedgehog.

>>17086038
>I've been for years, and everytime I do I get shut the fuck down.

You know why? Because you don't talk to ANYONE who actually actively takes part in /ovg/, you just play the victim card of how you were first and everyone on the internet should respect your snowflake series and its schedule.

>VTCC? Died because GT3 S4 was starting at the same timeslot

Literally nobody knew about this outside 8ch and your hugbox. We(I) already ran a series in VTCC as well. I checked what you had in your series and it was just the stock content, no skins, no engine fixes or anything that was done in the previous series. If you had just ASKED for anything I would've given you the skinpack and the turbo fixes for the cars. But you probably didn't even know about these things because you're not that interested in good racing, you just want to be the leader of something.

>>17086080
>Instead I get told FUCK OFF SHILL and other bullshit that is demotivating as fuck to continue to bother trying to organize.

>I did use Sunday, but the same issue arose when GT86 started: I had to reschedule my schedule since GT86 put itself on same time

Again, you're accusing people of taking YOUR time, while nobody has a clue of what you're doing.

>People will rather play a bad server with a server host they know/like than play a good server with someone they either don't know or don't like.

Lets see, last time you were running Saturday series you wanted to change the rules mid season so that you could change the drivetrain on any of the cars to FWD/AWD/RWD to "fit all driving styles". EVERYONE complained about this but you still wanted to do it. You even had custom sounds to engines and horns making YOUR car unbearably loud for everyone else and horns that were there just to distract others. Also, I don't really see you as a good series host because of the aforementioned reasons.

You realize the F1 car thing was an April Fool's joke right? You can complain about how I'm so bad, but yet you people have continously failed at basic communication. Even a 15 year old redditor was able to figure out it was a joke.
>>
>>17086907
The wheel was turning very slowly on FFB, the idea behind drifting is that you sometimes have to let the wheel turn all by itself. I tried to make it go away by limiting the turn range to less than 900, but I lost too much precision in the process.
tl;dr, FFB too slow.

>Coming from a Logitech G29 (4 warranty repairs in 1 year)

Jesus what happened to the great logitech quality. I use my G27 for more than 5 days per week at average since 2012, and it still didn't show any problems, apart from an iffy 5th gear that I can't be fucked to fix.

No idea, but their keyboard has keys that fall off if you depress them too fast, the mouse has a unreliably working scroll (that isn't fixable - every G502 has it) and G29 just keeps on failing. At least I can get a full cash refund for G29, tho.
And yes, not buying a single new Logitech product for a few years at least.
>>
>>17086926
I don't think you know how to drift or set up your wheel.
>>
>>17086966
Do tell, then.
>>
>>17086926
I can drift just fine with my g25 on very low ffb. You don't have to ever let the wheel turn itself. In fact you have more control if you do it yourself
>>
>>17086926
You will overheat your wheel if you have too strong FFB for too long friend.
>>
>>17086997
That's why strong FFB wheels have fans in them.
>>17086993
You can drift with a controller, too - I want the realistic experience, though.
>>
>>17087007
Racecars have a lot of vents for cooling, but they can still overheat.
>>
>>17087023
And? I understand that no FFB won't ever overheat, but what's your point?
>>
>>17086926
Use a lighter grip on the wheel. Potentially lower the FFB. Running high FFB at all times, especially if it induces clipping, is a terrible idea. Keep in mind that it's still a plastic toy steering wheel.

If you want to be a gorilla and actually wrestle with your wheel for some reason, make the costly upgrade to a DD wheel. Those will be able to withstand all the force.
>>
>>17087034
They don't test their wheels for constant bashing and high FFB at the same time.
And with summer coming, it's gonna be a bad combo. Having a lower FFB so you can physically throw the wheel will be better desu.
>>
>>17087040
But maximum turning speed isn't really dependent on torque. G29 just turns very slowly, it has satisfying torque.
>>
>>17087007
If you want a realistic experience, buy a real car and go drift it. No matter how autistically you try to reproduce the feeling in your hands you'll still be missing 80% of the experience. The G forces, the smell of tires burning, the feeling when you look out the side windows, the feedback of the suspension and all the other bits doing their thing.
In the end, we're just playing glorified video games with expensive controllers.
>>
>>17086895

The thing is rf1 itself cant handle more than 45 people. Anything above that is pure luck and completely random.

We thought that GSCE had improved on this regard so we switched to it, but it turned out to be even worse than rf1.
>>
>>17087094
>expensive controllers
They're not expensive at all, compared to a car.
>>
>>17087106
Then stop asking them to feel like a real car.
>>
>>17087130
I can as for as close as possible, though.
>>
>>17086956
Except it was sarcasm. It was on April Fool's Day and I purposely didn't bother with download links or putting it as an event. A bunch of redditors were able to detect the sarcasm while you and the merrymen weren't.

Time to write a fucking wall of text at >>17086738

>Also probably because there is always more interest for GT3 than any meme bullshit.

There wasn't any meme bullshit, the tracks were reasonable. The only real flop was the arena truck race since it's clear people can't do dirt driving well at all.

>Probably because they also put the most effort into their series and communicate with eachother so they don't end up running shit series for 6 months on tracks that only existed in Sonic the Hedgehog.

I used to use mumble, but then got told why am I here and banned. No point in organizing on a mumble that actively hates my own existence.

>You know why? Because you don't talk to ANYONE who actually actively takes part in /ovg/, you just play the victim card of how you were first and everyone on the internet should respect your snowflake series and its schedule.

I've posted several times about how the time conflicted, but instead the reply I got was "lol there's no shadow government nobody is shutting you down" even though they are running at the same time and don't care. That's why I defected to 8ch.

>If you had just ASKED for anything I would've given you the skinpack and the turbo fixes for the cars. But you probably didn't even know about these things because you're not that interested in good racing, you just want to be the leader of something.
I wasn't made aware of that, nobody had brought that up to me even in the "hugbox" I had. Again, you want something, it's called fucking communication.

>yet you advertise your series to people you despise and left behind.

Because maybe I was trying to let people know of an event? People talked about GT3 in the hugbox, but I'm not allowed to talk about VTCC here?

No it was not. The DTM server was created as a reaction against your idea, with the first race set to start in parallel of your aborted F1 race. This was on March 26.

The only reason you used to let people talk about /ovgt3/ on Discord is because you were afraid we'd all fuck off. And then you banned discussion of /ovgt3/. So we all fucked off.

>I used to use mumble, but then got told why am I here and banned.

That's not the only way to contact people, I even just tried to add you as a friend on steam and discord so we wouldn't have to shit up the thread but you declined both.

>I've posted several times about how the time conflicted

It's not a discussion when you come late to complain about conflicting time slot. You're supposed to talk to others BEFORE doing series to see if there already is series going and/or similar series coming. It's a community of several people hosting series, not just one guy telling how it is.

>I wasn't made aware of that

You never looked, you raced Touring Car Thursday and you knew of its existence.
>nobody had brought that up to me even in the "hugbox"
don't blame others, they probably weren't racing in TCT.

>Because maybe I was trying to let people know of an event?
You're trying to lure people that 'ruined' your life to spend more time with you? I refer to my previous question, is this Stockholm syndrome?

you missed the biggest reason to play rally 2000 - the long, authentic rally stages. that alone gives an unrivaled immersion because you have to endure the long drive (about 5.5-6 hours total for a full championship; 18 minutes average per stage) and control yourself not to destroy your car just from excessive wear - even avoiding all the trees might not save you from a component failure.

while for example in Dirt Rally (or SHiT Rally, as I like to call it) you drive no longer than 6-7 minutes at a time and the long loading menus give you at least a minute of break time between stages. you only have to go as fast as possible without hitting anything, there are zero penalties as long as you stay on the road, no incentive to drive more cautiously.

Whatever, arcade babby. Who cares how long you're driving if you're playing fucking Wacky Races?

Is anyone willing to waste ~30min on trying to beat bunch of first events in my assetto corsa career mode thing? I have no idea if it's too hard or too easy, seems fine to me (if it's too hard, tuning should make up for that, however i want to avoid grinding and not letting player win first races) but i need more opinions.

What's the point of having long stages if they aren't fun to drive? The physics are so shite it's a grind. I want long stages and rallies to be fun and challenging, not bland and retarded.

You have to define what you mean by "physics" because it's more than just the driving model

Even the commonly liked rally sims like RBR and Dirt Rally have really shit and inconsistent physics (as a whole, not just the handling). So the choice is either 'shit driving + consistent physics + good stages', or 'good driving + shit physics + shit stages'. With that equation, rally 2000 has less shit overall

I definitely wouldn't mind a rally game with a good driving model but not at the expense of literally everything else, including all other physics

I really like how you're dumbing these things down to make rally2k the better game.
Rally2k had longer stages but the detail is shit, its somewhat the same sort of stage but nowhere near to be called accurate. They're somewhat wider as well. I don't care if the stage is 10 minutes or 4 minutes long, I just want it to be detailed and challenging. Sadly Dirt Rally has 2 minute long stages that are shit ton harder than 10 minute ones in Rally2k. Caring about things like driving outside the stage and hitting people is so far from being core parts of the gameplay that I can't see how anyone would even bother to argue this.

I don't really see your point of consistent physics, I have 500 hours of Dirt Rally and I haven't had game breaking issues that would've ruined the experience from me, if I total my car I don't care if it's missing 1 wheel or 4.

How many professional rally drivers go back to Rally2k for practice again? Oh none? Oh it must be the better game anyway because someone realised they can't drive a rally car in a real sim :^)

>Rally2k had longer stages but the detail is shit, its somewhat the same sort of stage but nowhere near to be called accurate. They're somewhat wider as well.
except they're recreated from actual rally stages via photo and video reference. the roads are "wide" because most of the road-side bushes are flat ground textures that slow you down rather than 3D bushes or 2.5D sprites. given that the game is supposed to run on a 300MHz Pentium II, the level of detail is actually pretty darn good. newer games have more 3D detail per square foot, but the worlds are much smaller.

Dirt Rally might have more iconic locations from around the world, but Rally 2000 has well over 600km of roads that you can find on a map and trace with Google Earth. Easiest stage to find is Port Soderick: find the Isle of Man, zoom in on Douglas in the south east, start tracing from Marine Drive. there are some inaccuracies in the stages, but then again, the game was made in 1999.

>I don't care if the stage is 10 minutes or 4 minutes long, I just want it to be detailed and challenging
rally stages are actual roads that lead to places, not a theme park rollercoaster with a million hairpins. you're really missing the point of the stages length and what it implies and permits

>Caring about things like driving outside the stage and hitting people is so far from being core parts of the gameplay that I can't see how anyone would even bother to argue this.
those kind of things are easy to show in a single webm. you can't compare cars wearing down over 20+ kilometers of driving as easily as a physics bug or hard-coded game limit. and writing a somewhat descriptive post with more than 2 sentences against anything only gets people automatically shout "autism" at you.

>I have 500 hours of Dirt Rally and I haven't had game breaking issues that would've ruined the experience from me
you must be either lucky, or not care (as noted by the amount of "I don't care" in your post). I cannot play RBR or Dirt Rally for more than 20 minutes without something abnormal happening.

>if I total my car I don't care if it's missing 1 wheel or 4.
that's a good attitude to have towards circuit racing sims, where it's similar to real life - if you crash, your race is pretty much over.

rally cars are like worms, even if cut in pieces, they still try to move
