Looks great man, clean headlights make such a big difference to a car, do you have any before pics?

And may as well post mine since they're pretty unique, replaced my old jdm plastic headlights with a set of Euro glass ones along with carbon bezels, low beam projector upgrades and halo led's.

I'm looking at two different cars for sale and I need help deciding, one is a 2004 Lexus gx470 with 178k miles and the other is a 2006 4Runner with 145k miles. Both are listed at around $8500 and I'm sure I can talk them down a bit on price, I'm leaning towards the 4Runner because the miles on the Lexus worry me but both seem to be in good running condition

>>
I need some input here.
I was bleeding the master cylinder on my cressida, and the pedal just got hard.
It moves 1/3rd down then stops like a brick.
Check valve is fine, and bleeding fluid at each caliper is really slow (only drips of fluid coming out).
The manual points me towards the booster but the car hasn't even been running during any of this. and I yes I am bleeding the master in the car not on a bench.

Just found out that I won't be able to afford an MR2 Mk1.5 with a gen 4 3SGTE. I can't get the financing and pay out of pocket, it'll leave me with nothing residual for taxes or insurance.

Pour one out for me guys.

Does the AE86 have the same engine mounts as an aw11? I was curious about engine swaps and it looks like it's tough to find aftermarket engine mounts for the aw11, but pretty easy for the AE86. They both have the 4age so I figure the mounts must be at least similar right? Or does the MR2 being transverse change the mounting situation?

I have $3500 right now on hand, I was hoping to finance the entire thing and pay it off in a year but I can't do half and half because I won't have the money to pay for anything beyond the remainder of the cost of the car.

No insurance, tax, title, or even gas. This would also be my second car, I have a truck right now that I bought outright a year and a half ago.

I know this feeling. Plus it's hard, because by the time we're done with school and established pros with real money, the cars we want (80s 90s) are going to be like finding 50s and 60s cars today, ie, fucking hard and expensive and rare.
>>
>>16992479
Let alone one that's been modified, heavily like that.

I can afford the payments on it, but I just need residual money in an account in case something happens or if I don't work for a week or something and to pay for the one time expenses. Which is why I needed that financing so badly.

Maybe at the end of summer, or some other day

there shouldn't be a difference in bolt pattern size or hub sizes, just make sure it's hub centric and you're either running it right. spacers with extended arp studs (probably safest bet) or the ones with the studs on the spacers from a reputable brand like h&r, you don't want em to break

I just figured out today that it cuts off the gas after 6k rpms, I didn't think my car had this. Not sure how I feel about it.
>>
>>16994840
many people talk about doing this, it's not exactly impossible but it requires modifications to the chassis and cutting. despite the looks, there's some differences in the dimensions of the cars that makes swapping gt4/alltrac parts straight into the FWD counterpart. in the end it's just cheaper and makes more sense to buy/import the AWD turbo 4 car.

a LOT more than this

currently driving a 92 corolla shitbox auto. had a few first gen tacomas and love them, but i want a single cab v6 5spd 4wd, but i cant find one for a FAIR price.

wondering what /tg/ thinks of the 2nd gen RAV4 5spd. Really don't NEED 4wd,so I'd settle for a 2wd. what do

Anyone know anything about 1st gen celica's? I'm a big toyota fan but i'm kind of in a tough spot since I want something simple to work on and the engine seems strange. I've heard that parts are hard to find for these as well. I'm really in love with the looks of the car but I really want a daily driver.

They're not daily drivers. Not only is it a car from the 70's, but it's a Japanese car from the 70's built to mimic muscle cars. Parts will be expensive, when you can find them. If you really, REALLY want to DD this thing, I'd swap the engine with something common and simple. I've seen them with 350's, 302's, inline engines from BMW's, 3800s of all styles... Won't save you from having to find things like control arms and such, but at least you won't be left stranded with no parts for your motor for hundreds of miles.
>>
>>17001733

If you're in the US, It will probably be powered by a 20R which is shared with the pickups. Many parts interchange with the more popular 22R. So engine parts shouldn't be too hard to find

Hey /tg/, need some help with parts and repairs for my first car. She's the 93 celica in the montage.

So I just ordered 2 liftback supports, but they're too short to replace the ones I have currently which are shot, and the ones that I have on it have 2 different ends, one is a ball and socket and another is a bolted on hinge type thing, whereas the ones I bought have a ball and socket joint on each end. Any one know what exact kind I need, or if it's a special lift support? Will post pics when I get out of class

Second thing, I want to replace the stereo with a basic model that doenst use a cassette tape. For a car virgin and retard like me, how hard is This? I'm assuming not very.

Thanks in advance /tg/

Bit of an update on my new to me '93 Corolla 1.6SI :

I replaced the timing belt, as well as the 2 other V-belts. It went fine, aside from stupid me who forgot to put the 4 little stem seals before the valve cover nuts the first time, the nut caps broke before I even got them fully engaged, which served as a reminder, I guess, no harm done but I'll replace them anyway. I guess they are just regular nuts, considering the low torque needed on them, but I'm not sure I can find them in any general hardware store.

I went Nipparts for the timing belt, my dad has been using them for years, and his car got to 395000km without any issue, so I'm not worried about going non-OEM there.

Engine looks alright after some TDC, next time I'll remove the exhaust header shield, clean it and replace the cooked nuts.

After that, I replaced the spark plugs and the air filter, all of which looked like they came from the assembly line, the spark plugs were cooked, and a real bitch to get out, one of them almost seemed to be stuck. The wet threads is because I had to reinstal them once to go buy new ones, so I added copper grease.

The tips look pretty damn good though considering the mileage they went through, looks like a healthy engine.

Yeah, sometimes it would take a tiny bit longer to the engine to start, and there was some hesitation while accelerating from low-rpm. Now it's gone.

Aside from that, I don't think so, not sure about power, I drove quietly back home today, I'll do a proper test drive tomorrow.

The engine was running mostly fine before though, but I never skip on preventive maintenance, especially for a new aquisition.

I was really surprised about those plugs though, since I have a dealership service record up to 55000km, and copper plugs are due every 30000km, they should have looked much better than this.

Here's the glovebox latch I repaired, looked like it was forced open and the sliding plastic bit was gone, I fabricated a new one from a piece of plastic.

I recently bought a 93 SC400 and it's been great, but it has a check engine light that doesn't effect drivability. Since it's Obd1 I did the jumper trick to get it to flash a code at me, but it only gave me a 4-2 code (vehicle speed sensor) on the O/D OFF light, nothing on the check engine light. I read online that the VSS doesn't trigger a CEL, so what gives?

Just a soft wire brush worked and a dry towel afterwards to remove the dust it'll create. Don't use any kind of cleaner, it'll stain the metal even more.

/tg/,

Just purchased a Toyota Corolla S Plus 6 speed the other day and am already looking to make this thing more fun to drive. I just got a job that will allow me some expendable income so as an absolute noob when it comes to the mechanics of vehicles I've come to ask your advice.

I have already considered getting a sway bar to help the over-steering and getting a muffler as well as some cosmetic shit, but I would like to make the car quicker at least on the low end without fucking it up. I want to make it stand out on the street but not be a complete faggot and have everything under the hood stock.

The goal is to make the thing more FUN to drive and look different than the rest.

I understand I'll have to add better parts such as better brakes, clutch, etc. if I plan to do too much, I'm just looking for a starting point.

pls halp

Pic related isn't mine, but it's the same damn thing.

sway bars, coilovers, tires
those are all great first moves. you'd probably be happiest with coilovers as they give the most visual and great performance edge for a first move

I hate garbage night. Carrying soggy bags of garbage gto the curb is a nightmare. I have to move my car just to get the trash out of the garage. Ugh!

Yeah, I actually found it. They're not cheap. Very cool though. I'll probably go with the 326 power since they're the same price as a stock kouki wing.
Picked up new wheels today to go with summer tires. A little big at 18 but I couldn't find nice 17's for the life of me. Fuck me they weigh a ton though.

Hey /tg/, my 99 Corolla is finally on its way out. The transmission is so ancient that it killed the old engine and we made the mistake of installing a new one without doing anything to the transmission. However, I'm coming into some money in a few months and I plan to get another Corolla that was built within the last ten years, this time with a manual transmission and hopefully some other nice features. I'm trying to keep the cost under $7k Which model year could get me the best bang for my buck? What kind of pitfalls should I look out for when I take it to my mechanic for inspection?
>>
>>17017292
00-05 are pretty good bang for buck honestly, though I'm sure you can afford newer models.

05 XRS is the most fun of all but those are rare and can be pricey

One other question, might be a little weird, but do you happen to know which model year Corolla started getting OEM radios with an aux plug preinstalled? The cassette reader in mine died several months ago and I was planning to replace it, but when the engine and transmission problems started, I knew I wasn't going to have this car for much longer.
>>
>>17016574
Congrats man. What's the info when you bought it? Is that lowered?

>>17016797
Like the other anon said it's the new SC. I wouldn't be surprised if the BMYota Supra looks like that. I think they should've paired up with Ford and based it off the Mustang, redesign the shell, and have the eco boost engine from the SHO be the RZ model. They would've saved a lot of money imo.
>>
>>17017292
Just put your parameters in Craigslist or cars dot com and go from there. Avoid 2009 they are notorious for oil consumption.
>>
>>17017917
Everything is stock the engine is a 5mge, and has 130k miles on it. and to be honest I don't know if it is lowered. but i don't think it is.
>>
>>17018027
It looks lowered from the picture. Might be the angle or dead springs.

Would anyone wanna buy a running driving MKII supra project?

Runs, drives, I've posted some pictures before but I don't have any right now on my phone but it's in 5 colors now (replaced rusty panels) but the driver's door still needs replaced. Figured I'd have better luck here over Craigslist just yet, I just need money for school more than I need a car

Picture related, not a bad running car, bored and rebuilt the 5mge engine to a 3 liter rather than 2.8, transmission shifts perfectly. Just needs another speedboi who doesn't care what he looks like, or someone with mad welding skills to fix the door.

Or find a new door and give it a blue paint bath, I'm too deep in this school stuff to do it all now
>>
>tfw saw a 80s 4wd Corolla barreling down the road in the opposite lane

>>
>>17020319
maybe he replaced with 7m?
>>
>>17020378
5m's do have a little more meat between cylinders compared to 7m's but they have the same bore. 7m's get the extra displacement from a 6mm longer stroke.
>>
>>17020452
>5m's do have a little more meat between cylinders compared to 7m's
Actually I'm not sure that's true. Since the 6m is a 5m with a different crank and pre-89 7m's used 6m cranks, the cylinder spacing might be the same between 5m and 7m? But either way it's not a good idea to bore an M engine.
>>
>>17020296
Haven't seen a 4wd corolla for the longest time

I didn't realize it wasn't a good idea, but the engine runs and nothing fit together weird when I put it back together, so take that as you will. Memey thrush exhaust as well, you know you want this grumbly piece of 80s throwaway

The new supra will be the new supra.

It will be hard to call this the successor to the SC. Lexus IS so different from the geriatric boulevard cruisers they built for florida retirees back in the 90's-00's. It does fill the same basic format, but marketing will be totally different, and probably sell for even more $$$ (adjusting for inflation).

The SC was too reserved and refined to sell well today. It was for an older demographic. Semi-retired doctors etc who golf. This is for the children of rich Saudis and chinese who are here in the USA for school.
>>
>>16991506
I'm not pouring anything out for you. Go work and earn some money poorfag. You don't deserve that car until you get your shit together,
>>
>>17022868
I think the LC is a lot of the same thing. I convinced my pal to buy an SC last year and they're a lot more "sporting" than you'd expect. And the V8 motor sounds godly.
