If I were legitimately interested in buying I would tell the guy, maybe flash some cold hard cash in his face, and say "I'm gonna walk if I don't get a test drive. If the test drive goes well we make a deal today." If he still doesn't budge after that, fuck him.
On a thoroughly unrelated note I've kinda wanted to get a clapped out old 8 series as project fodder, swap in a 2JZ or some other turbocharged 6 with a large aftermarket. Probably way cooler on paper than IRL, but fun to think about.
>>14332243 >disallow test drives it's to filter out the jokers who just want the chance to hoon a fast car. people selling highly tuned supras and skylines know this feel. what part of this are you struggling with kid?
>>14332263 Here in the UK plates are attached to the car, not the owner. If you have the plate number you can check (for free no less) the MOT history (and therefore any recurring problems), if it's hot or not, and the specific insurance quote (since vehicles that have been stolen or crashed cost more than a supposedly identical uncrashed or unstolen one)
>>14332266 The part where it doesn't matter, since the kids will show up anyway. If you want to sell your car, you need to allow test drives. No sane person is going to buy a car without driving it first
>>14332271 >>14332271 >No sane person is going to buy a car without driving it first no shit. like i said if you take it literally that's your fault. maybe he should have said no """""""""""test drives""""""""""""" in true 4chan fashion instead, just to not confuse your autistic ass
>>14332307 I can totally understand blocking pates if they can be tracked to you, but here there's literally no reason to block plates unless you have something to hide.
I also forgot it shows up false advertising, such as a base model civic type R clone being advertised as a genuine type R. You run the plates, and the machine tells you the actual (legal) status of the car
>>14332265 thats not how it works or happens in real life lol the last bmw I was buying the owner was driving me at first but I still asked for a test drive and a few hard pulls just before handing the cash.
>>14332303 it's not about morals it's about being easy to confuse and naive to the lengths some cunts will go to to do what they want. like those fuckers pretending they've got the winning lottery ticket but just lost it.
>>14332329 okay maybe you don't encounter many people who just want to hoon a high end car, seeing as you don't sell any. maybe others do? maybe that's why they employ a "no test pilots" policy? maybe they can tell by the way you walk and talk and dress and the questions you ask whether you're worth a test drive? who knows
>>14332348 I'm poor as fuck, yet dress well and talk like I'm an upper class twat from Edinburgh, I could almost certainly bluff my way into a test drive, despite the fact I currently have £3200 to my name and a couple broken old shitboxes
>>14332355 do upper class twats from edinburgh talk like they're pretending to be american? seeing as you've been struggling with what no test drives actually means for about half an hour i doubt you'll fool anyone.
There's a significant difference between not understanding and pointing out the problems with such a policy, but I wouldn't expect a negro to understand such subtle ministrations in the English language
>>14334688 On my days off I find craiglist ads that have 'no tire kickers' in the description. I do a bit of research and sound serious when I call them, but don't talk about price. So I meet the guy up usually early as possible. The first thing I do is start chatting them up about why they're selling it, the cars history, and ask about general maintenance.
Once I get them on a level where they feel like I'm serious I kick the tires. Each one, just a solid kick. Sometimes they'll raise an eyebrow, but most don't say shit.
>>14334688 I'm pretty sure the term is either Aus or Bong in origin. Basically it's Indians/pakis pretending to be mechanics.
Cunts try to talk you into selling for 9k under your asking price. They've exhausted every avenue of checking your car for lowering the price, so they resort to 'checking' the pressure of the tires to knock it down a little further.
>tfw selling a 2001 saab 9-3 with 112,000km on it in mid-2009 >get a sus-looking reply, organise a meet at some random suburban neighbourhood >curryniggers in a beat-up red camry rock up >walk around the car, look in the boot, kick the tires >Offers 1,000 "take it or leave it" >Tell them to fuck off. >They tell me a few panels have scratches on them, and the car is not getting any younger, saab parts are not easy to get, 1,000 is fair. >Tell them not to waste my time, they aren't in India and I'm not going to entertain stupid fucking bargaining games below the shitty price I would get at a dealer. >Curryniggers get mad. I wait until they go before driving off. >ended up keeping the saab going.
>>14338678 >Browse CL for an AWD eclipse. >Look for weeks see ad, >no pics, but price is good >Rural as hell, 3 hour trip each way >Send Email anyways asking for pics >Wait a few hours >"Hi I posted the ad for my son, he does not have internet or a smartphone. call him at #" >Big flag, poverty + cars = neglect >So desperate, call anyways >Tell him it's a long trip, maybe he or a friend can send pics >"nah I don't have a smartphone" >"I' not "me or my friends" >ask for a vin to see if it was in a wreck or stolen >Watch trying to do. Steel my car or sumthing" >Don't even get four words in to explain to him that I'm not going to drive 4 hours to view a car w/o a carfax or pics. >"I may not have a smart phone but I have smart guns that'll shoot you if you try something." >"But let me git out there and read it off to you." >This loon doesn't even have a smartphone >Wants to shoot people >His poor mom screens his emails for him. >Tell him that is fine, don't worry about the vin or anything. >Pull my thriftfag 45 dollar smartphone away from ear and still hear him babbling about something >end call
>went looking at a car >ad says car is mechanically and electrically perfect >arranged a meet at the guys house >its in a damn nice part of town and his house is literally a mansion >car looks pretty decent but a few bits are a bit worn >settle on a price but on the condition i have it professionally inspected (something felt wrong so i had to do it) >get report back about the car >list is almost as the car itself >just about every imaginable thing was wrong under the hood and mechanic said he was amazed the car didnt blow when i test drove it >said it was the unsafest car he'd ever inspected >told the guy about it and backed out >ad reappears the next day >"a few small issues but engine and electrics are perfect"
