SC 300 has a the 3.0L 2JZ-GE inline-6 engine.
SC 400 has the 4.0L 1UZ-FE V8 engine.

Power levels vary throughout the near decade long run of the Z30 body, but generally the SC 400 made more power than the SC 300. Also, the SC 400 has better standard equipment, but the SC 300 can be optioned the same (mostly). Automatic was the only option for the SC 400 while the SC 300 had a manual option although few cars were fitted as such. Factory manual SC 300 are valued because of their rarity.

Diesel engines are currently so advanced they're just almost as nice to drive as a equivalent petrol.
And they have the bonus of having immense torks.

I used to think the same, but since having this diesel car I changed my opinion drastically.
The only downside is the throttle response at low rpms and not being able to redline at 6k+.
It's way more agile when overtaking/merging and gets to speed faster.
And the sound of diesel engines/turbo spool at speed isn't bad at all.
