Daily LS thread
>300-1300hp with ease
>reliable
>good on fuel

only downside is it sounds a bit shit unless you spend/make alot of effort on the exhaust.
>>
>>14272361
How do I find a cheap LS?
>>
>>14272419
The junkyard, then all you need is weekend to swap it in pretty much anything
>>
>>14272419
>buy old 90's wreck
>???
>Extract ls goodness
i got a basic mafless tune and otr-exhaust and went from 220hp to 300hp at the wheels
>>
>>14272425
>LS1
>90's

excuse me?
>>
>>14272361
>only downside is it sounds a bit shit unless you spend/make alot of effort on the exhaust.

literally the only reason I will never have one

they need 180 degree headers to sound good
>>
>>14272463
He asked LS, not LS1.

Steel block LSs are great for cheap power.
>>
How much to rebuild an LS? Just a refresh with stock parts. I know it's not worth it, just curious.
>>
>>14272648

Anywhere from $600 to $2K depending on how much you wanna spend for a rebuild kit

Trick flow top end rebuild kit will run you on the high end, while some kit from Summit will run you on the low end.
>>
>>14272663
If I win the lotto I'm totally going to import one of these from an America scrap yard and document what happens for /o/. Full on build and cost of ownership report.
>>
>>14272492
this
>>14272663
Is that in freedom bucks inc labor?
>>
>>14272423
Despite the meme, you really can find a 5.3 truck motor for ~$500 if you're willing to look.
>>
>>14272463
The LS1 came in the C5 Corvette in 1997.
>>
>>14272492
There is no iron block ls
>>
LT1 AND LQ4 are also cheap alternatives
>>
>>14272463
absolute idiot de-trip immediately
>>
>>14272858
There are, theyre just not "LSX". LQ4 is one for example, theyre basically the same thing other than being iron block instead of aluminum
>>
>>14272858
all ls truck engines are iron block.
stop typing
>>
>>14272478
My LS7 sounds pretty fucking badass. No one has ever said "dude that sounds like a shit ass 4.6 Mustang!"

Which I only bring up cause some choad in my office complex has a late 90's mustang with the worst sounding v8 on this entire fucking planet.
>>
>>14272739

No that's not including labor, but rebuilding an SBC isn't rocket science if you've got the tools.
>>
>>14272463
>wrong on so many levels
>top kek
>>
My next car will be anything GM with an LS in it. I've had a few turbo 4 cars that I've upgraded. If I threw the same money into a turbo kit for an LS motor I'd be sitting pretty.
>1988 k1500 with 800 whp
>>
>>14272933
which is hilarious because Ford's V8s sound better
>>
jeez Im fucking tired. >>14272930 I meant to say not all "ls" truck engine are iron and that a few examples are LH6 LY5 L33 and so on. >>14272858 this anon is correct. no LS moniker was ever officially attached to the LM/LH/LQ etc. gen3/4 engines. Its a fairly inconsequential debate though as nearly everything swaps between all LS architecture engines.
>>
>>14273039
>nearly everything swaps between all LS architecture engines.
Please everyone ignore this. There are a lot of variances depending upon the bore size.
>>
Question: Ive got an 06 5.3L vortec in my truck and I'm looking to make some cheap power. Any specific headers or cams or similar bolt ons that would be good?
Also would headers from a 90s camaro V8 be good if they even fit?
>>
>>14273070
no shit you don't say
>nearly
>NEARLY
I doubt anyone here is putting LQ4 pistons in a 4.8 and going "hurr why dont dis fit? JustaB18fag said it would HURR". Accessories and intakes and heads. If you want for me to go in depth of everything that will and won't fit just to soothe your autistic ass then you're mistaken.
>>
>>14273005
You have to try to make a v8 sound shitty, but this one fits the bill. Whatever the v8 is in this thing, its awful sounding. Rattly, raspy... makes a stock WRX sound burly.
>>
>>14272933
Im not gonna deny that an ls7 powered car is cool.. But the 4.6 ohc ford motors sound glorious. They sound so good its almost a meme
>>
>>14273080
Houstonperformancetrucks. Com

Mexicans in houston are experts on chevy truck performance. Not even trying to be funny.
>>
>>14273090
>Accessories and intakes and heads.
Nope. The heads from a big bore motor won't fit a a small bore. The intake from cathedral port heads won't fit the standard port heads. Only some accessories interchange, moron.

This guys doesn't...and now I'm curious as to why. It sounds like equal length headers, if my Subaru experience is anything to go by. EL headers tend to fuck up sounds...

http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/engine/hrdp-1109-stock-gm-ls-engine-big-bang-theory/
4.8 liter ls with a pitted bore making 1200 hp
>>
>>14278240
1,304 is the record so far (4.8)
5.3L made 1,201 ironically
>>
>>14278760
>>14278776
That article was really only testing the limits of the stock crank and rods. Of course you're going to make big power with twin turbos
>>
>>14278833
What other stock bottom end engine can make 1,304 horsepower?
2Jz record is 1,099

And they're called Vortec, not LS.
>>
>>14279513
Vortec just gets stuck on everything that is put in a truck. An LQ9 doesn't exactly share anything with a V6 made in the early 80s.

hello friends
>>
>>14279591
Yes, which happens to be the iron blocks. LS are all aluminum. It's like one of their defining characteristics.
>>
>>14279656
So what about the Vortec 5300 LM4 and L33? Or the Vortec 6000 L76?
>>
>>14279746
Its kinda like how a square is a polygon, but a polygon not necessarily a square.

my stock trans am exhaust system sounds pretty amazing
