So I'll be getting my first car soon and I want something with a bit of style... So I'm looking at a late 70s-late 80s boxy sedans and hardtops.

Stuff I want/need:
>At least 150hp
>Not Inline 4
>RWD
>Boxy/edgy design
>Seats 4 comfortably
>Power steering and A/C would be very nice but I could do without
>Up to 4-5000€
>Sorta reliable
>Simple enough for me to do maintenance on

Cars I'm interested in:

>Mercedes SLC
>Mercedes SEC 78-91
>BMW 6
>Opel/Ford Ascona, Granada, Commodore, Diplomat

Also, thanks in advance.
I'll try to post some nice cars to bump the thread with but I'm at a mall at the moment.

Those are pretty cool too... Totally forgot about the E coupes, though the sedans do have a bit of a reputation for being redneck cars over here.

He will be broke because of fuel and insurance before he could even drive the car once

150hp barely moves a 1.5+ ton barge, it really isn't any faster compared to a 100hp Polo or something, especially if it's a non-lockup automatic.

Insurance here is cheap and fuel costs are easily managed with LPG.
>>
>>14256254

Thanks for the barf.

I don't even know which country is responsible for this.

Opel Senator maybe?
>>
>>14256263

It's pretty cool, especially the 78-82 models.

Opel Senator A or Commodore C. Kind of a euro version of an Australian Holden..... Easy as to work on, great car to learn basic mechanics and there is a lot of performance upgrades available (in australia anyway.....)
>>
>>14256254
> lpg
> wants at least 150 hp
Why if you can't get that power on the street anyway? Could also go for a 90 hp non lpg car and have better handling and more power baka
>>
>>14256288
They only came with I6s here I think though... It would probably be pretty easy to make two small exhaust manifolds and use two cheap diesel turbos...
>>
>>14256301
LPG only reduces power by about 10%... It also has a much higher octane rating for more boost and timing.
>>
>>14256309

The last of this generation of these in aus came with RB30s from nissan skylines. Could be a pretty cool swap for an opel.....

You considered a Volvo 200 series? Doesn't quite have the glamour of the cars you mentioned, but I'd imagine you'll be able to get a much tidier example for your money, and have a fair bit more left over for insurance.

You have researched and factored in insurance costs for a new driver in this kind of car, right?

real talk, you won't be able to afford to run or buy any of those (except maybe the opels, as they aren't so popular)
any your price-range will have been turked to the point of no return
>>
>>14256352
Yes, insurance and registration isn't that expensive over here.
If it does end up being expensive my father is going to register it.

p cool
I'm not looking to race it though, just occasional spirited driving and hotboxing it with my friends - leather seats are also a plus for this reason
>>
>>14256179
So because you said 4-5000€ I assume you are from erope.
i amfrom germany and i happen to be an axperton the classic car market here.
it would have been absolutely no problem to fulfill your wishes for any of those cars
with many premium optons maybe six years ago. but for some reason many many people
want just one of those cars too and because they get rarer and rarer everyday prices are
constantly rocketing.
For example you wouldn'tbe able to get even a rusty BMW E24 6 series for under 10k€ now.
I tried to but I miserably failed and had to face my fate that i wont own one in the near future.

So I would recommendyou make theonly wise choice here and get an E30 with the M10 engine
(not the M40 thats important if you dont know much about taking care of an engine or if you want
to daily it)
Or maybe the 325e, also a great engine (even if it has got a 2,7l displacement)
>>
>>14256468
>EU Car recommendation

>I assume you are from erope
wow!
>>
>>14256468
Isn't the 325e really slow though? I remember it made something like 130hp@4500rpm... Probably could be fixed by using a 325i head though.

And yes I'm European, and I will have around 250 eur per month over 5 years for car related needs.
>>
>>14256468
Oh and additionally:
If your budget is already that tight I dont think you want to ruin yourself on the
runing costs. So think rationally:
get a classic boxy car for reasonable money that could also get up in value in the near future.

Maybe a Mercedes 190E with the 2.0 liter engine (also often offer nice options as
Mercedes buyers always had a bit more money on their hands and for you budget
you can get one in a nice condition. A car that rusts in your hands wint make you
happy for a long time.)
>>
>>14256485

>>
>>14256494
>I will have around 250 eur per month
minimum wage turk worker detected
>>
>>14256494
the 325e is not about HP, its about torque and it uses not as much fuel as the 325i. the 325e "eta" is not slow but deifinitely not a racecar.
if you find a nice 325i for you money, go for it!
>around 250 eur per month
that is actually a fairly sized budget
>>
>>14256522
Eh it's not that tight.
I could realistically go up to a 10000€ car but I want to have some money left for unexpected repairs etc, so let's say 8000€ tops.
>>
>>14256571
What about a BMW E28?
>>
>>14256179

>simple enough for me to do maintenance
>old euro sports car

Pick one.
>>
>>14256588
Yes I looked at them but there are none available locally so I'd have to import from Germany.
E28 530/535is are really nice and simple cars in my opinion.
>>
>>14256363
No love for the Volvo, then?
>>
>>14256687
It's okay, but a bit too spartan to be honest.
>>
You dont want those soft, overweight old Mercs. You want a perfectly balanced, great handling, good sounding classic Bimmer, like an e28, e30, e34. Make sure they are 2.0 petrol and above.

Mercedes W 202
I bought a C 180 with some minor rust from a Mercedes mechanic who had kept the maintenance up to date for 1800€. It's kinda slow, but not too bad with 120hp.

However, with your budget you can get one with a bigger engine easily. Look out for rust and find one that has been maintained well, you will love it.
>>
Volvo 740 Turbo meets your requirements excellently

Cheap, easy to work on, more reliable than other 80s euro cars, came in wagon form
>>
>>14258698
I'm gonna be honest, the W202 is one of the most bland cars I've ever seen, even the C43.
>>
>>14257010
Sure a 2.5 would be better, but a post - 1991 E34 2.0 6cyl 150hp still sounds great and has enough power to rip skids

>>14259431
They look nice, but there is nothing I'd call "sporty" about the way they handle unless you get your hands on a special edition like a "Rally" model which is lighter, has more power and generally a much better car. These are rare as fuck and accordingly expensive tho...

>>14261000
Manta jokes? Man, its been some time since I've heard one of those
