Yes local yellows cause von does not want to do safecars for just spins even though he should.

you're either someone who's never raced with /ovg/ for turnleft or a retard, we get enough FCY for real incidents without having to have one for every spin

Yesterday was perfect in relation to safety cars, and while the spin I had by squeezing larguu maybe should have caused an FCY, it was far better for the racing that it didn't I'm sure

>we get enough FCY for real incidents without having to have one for every spin
Seeing how von is restricting entrys to only people who know how to race ovals, we are not going to see that much. Imo at least a competition caution would be nice to see. Keeps the racing close.

Ahahaha great meme, "only certain wheels can feel the car properly." Yeah, okay then. That's why all of the fast guys were driving this thing sideways to turn a competitive lap.

>Tries to claim it's not realistic despite having zero knowledge of the car

Sev refused to drive it.

>Compares what his sim Flat 6 is doing against a real one on a different track layout from a video where you can't see the real car's speedo

The corners compared are the exact same. Just because you're running the chicane versus no chicane, turn one at mid-ohio is the exact same. Seriously how dense can you be? One turn on the track is added/subtracted, suddenly that changes how you drive the entire circuit? LMFAO shut the fuck up valrys.

>The racing is really really fun but that doesn't matter because the physics aren't exactly what I think they should be

The point of a simulator is to be as accurate as possible.

Enjoy killing your tyres because sliding the Flat 6 shreds the rears. And the fact is that the car doesn't float around in a straight line if you have your FFB setup right.

>Sev refused to drive it.
Ze German has experience driving Flat 6s in a competitive environment? News to me

>Words words words
Makes lap time comparisons pointless. And not being able to see the speed at which the real car is taking the bends means you have no idea whether you're sideways at real life speed because bad physics or you're sideways at a faster speed than real life because you're exploiting the simulation and not afraid to wreck your expensive car by pushing too hard. Fact of the matter is that I beat that guys irl lap time within 2 or 3 laps of trying, so either Mid Ohio is inaccurate or the mod is too fast - and I wasn't sideways or always countersteering to achieve it, in fact my movements of the wheel I found to be remarkably similar to what the real guy was doing. The physics are probably okay, just the fast simracers are able to exploit them.

>The point of a simulator is to be as accurate as possible.
True, but when 90% of your users have never driven the car in question how the fuck can they judge whether it's accurate or not? The Flat 6 mod is excellent work by some guys in their basements working with what information they had, it was never going to be a 1:1 representation of the real thing and stomping your foot and whining about how the fun (and they are extremely fun to drive and race, this is the consensus except apparently you and Ze German because you insist on being faggots) is ruined because they don't meet your personal accuracy standard is just pure, undiluted autism.

What's the go to game for online simracing these days? I haven't bothered with a lot of online events since rFacto1+mods were the norm. I am aware of most of what's out, just don't see a need to buy them all and I'm not worried about which is 0.5% more realistic. Just what's popular and not a pay-per-month and/or microtransaction piece of shit.

Yeah except it didn't. In race trim, I was the fastest car on the track. For 45 minutes. Only reason I didn't win is because the leader was ALSO fast as fuck.

Setups have been shared publicly. You're looking for a 1:21.0xx in Qualifying, and a 1:21.7xx in Race trim.

You can always have online races in AC (despite what people here will whine about for hours) as long as you have a reasonable ping on the server you join - and again not every damn server is GTs on Spa despite what people say. I recommend the Toyota GT86 and Fiat Abarth servers for fun, close racing

A lot of servers DO require DLC, but unlockers are posted here quite often if you don't wanna play

Project CARS also has an active online community, though I do not own that title, and have no ideas what the status of bugs are

rFactor2 is good for racing with ovg, check get-good.net for how to get it

race07 still has an online racing community on weekend nights

Dirt Rally has online leagues and rally cross multiplayer, never tried the RX though

Well, don't point it out to us, point it out to the developers. Explain them what you feel is wrong with the driving physics, ask them why they did it that way (in this case: the tire physics) and maybe you can get a discussion started with them that might result in the mod being changed.

Ofcourse, this is a highly unlikely scenario, but it's still a better solution than just telling random users not to download a mod because you don't like it

Excuse my absence yesterday, I was very ill. I'm sure you all missed me very much. Anyway, due to the general chaos and fuck-ups, the race yesterday is being scrubbed from the records and is being considered a test race. Sorry about that.

Anyway, due to this, this means we've re-evaluated and are changing a few things:
1) Qualifying will now be private to prevent 15 cars all diving for the pit exit to do their one flying lap and fucking each other up
2) First points scoring round is now next Saturday at 8pm GMT, and will be at Oran Park (I am using v1.1 of this from RaceDepartment I HAVE NOT DRIVEN the 0.6 version on the wiki if there is a reason we should be using that one as well please do tell)
3) Malaysia South Loop is out, Croft is in for Round 2
4) Due to some silly people showing up to the wrong race in the wrong car and deliberately fucking people up instead of driving around politely like they'd been asked to, I may get quite liberal with the Kick Player function until certain people get the message. Starting from next Saturday, if you deliberately fuck someone up by driving the wrong car in the wrong race you will be DQ'd from the remainder of the season
5) Yes, the Miata physics are a bit weird. But RBDK and myself are both of the opinion that it drives fine for the purpose we want it for. If you hate it that much, skip the Miata races (we will do the Skippy races first from now on I think) and you will merely be classified behind everyone who did all the races but will still receive a finishing position and points.

I think that's everything for now. Check the doc for any changes (wiki is now outdated)

accuracy isn't a part of the definition what a simulation is
"accuracy" in itself is a vague term and requires context
>>
>>14257302
that still doesn't necessarily mean that those two statements conflict.

As you said, the point of a simulator is to recreate a real environment in a contained one, however the more accurate a simulator is, the better it is rated, therefore you could argue that the whole point of creating a simulator is to make it as accurate as possible.

But that's the thing, you are arguing about it what the definition of simulator is, and i completely agree with you on it, however definition does not mean goal of a simulator.

When you're trying to recreate something, you want it to be as accurate as possible, and yeah accurate is a vague term, you can include physics, graphics, whatever under it, but the point still remains that being accurate is the goal of sims.

Just for the record i love the flat6 mod

lmao, not even the same car, 991 cup cars have much more df than the 911 cup cars regardless.

This "drifting" through corners thing, thats all dependent on driving style. You don't do that of course in real life cause tires, same shit in rf2. Just like with other cars, being aggressive with the tires is going to be faster but it is just going to wear them out.
>>
>>14257717

Drifting is slow, period.

>Drifting is a driving technique where the driver intentionally oversteers, causing loss of traction in the rear wheels or all tires, while maintaining control from entry to exit of a corner. A car is drifting when the rear slip angle is greater than the front slip angle, to such an extent that often the front wheels are pointing in the opposite direction to the turn (e.g. car is turning left, wheels are pointed right or vice versa, also known as opposite lock or counter-steering).

a certain race car doesn't have track-specific ways how it's supposed to be driven. there is not a single car that you drift on one track and drive normally on another.
>>
>>14258146
If we assume that Mid-Ohio is accurate, you do not need to drift the Flat 6 to make it achieve laptimes that match real life.

It's only alien sim racers pushing it way beyond that who are actually drifting it around the place. Of course that means the mod isn't quite right, but it's not as bad as you're making out

>>
>>14258346
>car interiors are really low-poly
True, but some are acceptable (FBM) whereas others are more or less non-existent (UF1)
>virtual steering wheel movement doesn't correspond to what you're actually doing
It does if it's set up correctly (the defaults are fine on my G27)
>I'd rather have tried AC with the DK2
There are a few drawbacks in AC like no HUD (which means no setup changes) and no low persistence mode like LFS so there's more ghosting. Also now that I've updated the oculus runtime to 0.8.0.0 (which LFS 0.6K requires), it's broken rift support in AC.

That said, driving AC's laserscanned Nords with the DK2 is brilliant and the closest thing to actually going there.

I tried some indy500 on rf2 but why does the steering always pull to the left even on the straights? I end up having to turn right and over-correct. Is oval racing supposed to be that way? The straights end up being the hardest parts because the car wants to keep turning towards the infield.

I checked my controller settings, I changed the caster, the weight jacker, i put all the weight to the right side and to the front nose of the car and nothing seemed to help. I need more practice. If it had more "neutral" steering and wasn't always pulling to the left it would be a lot easier.

They pull to the left because they have an asymmetrical design i.e. the left and right wishbones have different lengths, the springs and shocks are different between the left and right of the car, the tire pressures are lower on the left side and the weight is heavily biased to the left side. This is all done intentionally so that the car is stable and balanced through the corner. This is why you can brake and accelerate while turning on an oval.

If the car was setup "neutral" as you say, the car would understeer like a pig through the corner and be unstable as fuck under braking and accelerating.

in pCars I thought the Scion FRS Rocket Bunny and GT86 Rocket Bunny edition would be the same thing. Like the FRS/GT86 in real life. But then I noticed later that they are different categories. I think the FRS is setup like a drift car, and the GT86 is a proper racecar.
One of the best parts about GT4 was winning SuperGT in a GT300. Apparently both classes used to be closer together back then in SuperGT and GT300s could actually get the overall win. and I would always try to use one of the overpowered GT500 cars for the Nurb 24H.
I wonder what's going to happen with that DTM VS SuperGT showdown. Last I heard it got cancelled. So now the Japanese manufacturers are thinking about not sharing the DTM monocoque anymore. The Germans got scared and backed out. They didn't want the superior Japanese to embarrass them.

The Japanese Update pack was fucking awesome. Adding the option and medium tire now to Formula A makes a huge difference. So much better.
and when the Toyota LMP1 was good and almost won Le Mans it wasn't in any games, and now this year when they are shit now they make it into the game.

SuperGT is one of the most exciting categories of motorsport out there right now, it really needs to be represented in more games. Maybe Gran Turismo have a copyright lockdown on all of the Super GT stuff. But we can't wait on Polyphony Digital to get off their lazy asses and make a new game.

This setup guide helped me a lot.
It does a better job explaining what tweaking everything does to the car than the in-game descriptions. It helped me better understand setups for all games not just pCars. I'm still not a suspension guru. I don't really mess with the bump stop/rebound that much. and maybe I'll touch the packers if I'm trying to go extra low on the ride height.

Now I feel like an asshat for using default setups before the Japanese update and having all of my brake ducts and radiators wide ass open because I was nervous about cooling.

Yeah the difference between classes is pretty slim as it is, the restrictions on the GT500s means that it's entirely possible for GT300s to race fairly against them. pCars GT86 feels like a proper race car from some online GT4 races, pretty nice to drive and it'd be good to see something like it in other games to be honest.

>>14262879
Yeah, criminally under represented really. GT300 is mainly modified road cars which is the bizarre thing, you could definitely get a decent line up of them if you combined a few games rosters. GT500 maybe, don't exactly see many GT500 cars popping up in any game. Even Gran Turismo has an abysmal selection for GT300, it's just got about 10 teams worth of one or two cars.

I can't understand if it wants to tell you when the car is on bumpstops or is scraping the ground because it seems to activate on both when those two things happen and also when they don't.

Sorry man I have no idea.
Now that you mention it I had seen that meter before but I don't know what it does. Mine are usually yellow. It's kind of hard to see in the heat of the action. iirc i think there might be one of those markers for each 4 wheels? but I'm not sure.
>>14263114
Yeah it's the Abarth with a F3 skin.
The formula abarth doesn't have the top speed for the straights in the first sector. and I was too lazy to look for a F3 mod.

yeah, the abarth is down like 40-50hp and has smaller tires and less downforce than an F3

It shows up when braking hard or going on high curbs, it's red and it only comes up on the front left suspension on every car for me.

Rising the ride height stops it from showing when braking (so it is somehow height-related), but I don't really understand it.

Sometimes it shows when scraping, sometimes it shows when riding on bumpstops, sometimes it shows even thought the car is neither scraping nor hitting bumpstops.
It also looks like it is triggered when any part of the car is too low, not just the front left corner.

I don't really understand what the hell it is supposed to warn me from

>>
>>14263307
maybe it's the ride height or the springs are too stiff for the bumps?
Trying to tune the LMPs for top speed down Mulsanne straight is a pain in the ass too. No downforce, all radiators and brake ducts closed just to get to 200 mph. The E-Tron is finicky when it comes to ride height so it's easy to bottom out on the straight and lose top speed. It's a big difference compared to Group C cars going 250 mph down Mulsanne.
>>
>>14263287
http://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/rsr-formula-3.8040/
>>
>>14263364
It's definitely height-related, but I don't think it has to do with stiffness.
raising the car past a certain height makes the red marker go away, even if you up the stiffness of the springs.

I guess I'll just deal with the fact that nobody knows what it does and I'll just stick to the good old listening to scraping sounds and reading suspension travel numbers to see if it rides on bumpstops.

I didn't really try P1s except for a few joyrides, I'm currently having way too much fun with formula rookies and formula gulfs

I almost think I prefer the TDI over the E-Tron Quattro. The hybrid system on the E-Tron is weird. It's not like KERS in F1 where it holds the charge and resets every lap. As soon as you brake it regens and as soon as you accelerate the battery depletes. It doesn't store the charge. You can't really control when you want to deploy it. I don't need the hybrid boost for Tertre Rouge, I should be able to save all of it for the Mulsanne Straight.
and then the hybrid only recharges when you brake, so at a place like Spa that doesn't have a lot of heavy braking zones, you can't fully recharge the hybrid system. And then you end up riding the brakes more or braking harder trying to get extra charge to the battery. And if you press the KERS button it releases the full charge all at once (or whatever is left) so you have to recharge again.
But the handling is too good. I almost prefer the TDI without the hybrid system but the E-Tron does have better handling. With the hybrid system you can brake way later for that first chicane at Mulsanne, lots of grip, higher cornering speeds, Porsche Curves is almost flat out. The modern LMPs don't have the crazy top speed like the Group C cars from the past but they are much better through the twisty bits.

Modern F1 is getting slower, WRC is getting slower and killed Group B. Le Mans seems like the only race getting faster even with the chicanes added.

>>14263438
Are you talking about real F1 or the ingame FA?
because the KERS on the FA works the same except for the fact that it's button-controlled rather than accelerator-controlled.
It doesn't reset at every lap, it recharges with breaking, at least on the ps4

There's a separate unlockable Le Mans event in career mode. You don't need the WEC contract to enter. And you can pick any class that you want. and once you get the invite it's always unlocked.
It's awesome. When I tried setting up my own Le Mans in Race Weekend mode I never got true multi-class racing. It was always just the different level of prototypes. But this one is really all the different classes racing together.

I was gonna try and grind more in career mode to unlock a WEC contract because I was curious with how they would do the multi-class LMP2 and GTs racing together, but then I unlocked that separate Le Mans. Best career mode ever.

I tried to Max Verstappen'd that shit and start in FA with all the fast stuff. The learning curve was kinda harsh. What I should have done is chilled and started with a FF touring car and gotten a feel for the game and the physics and then work up to the more powerful stuff.
>>
>>14263495

>>
>>14263502
Bingo! Manual crack install required.
>>
>>14263498
I started with karts and did about 3 or 4 seasons until you unlock LMP3 contracts, then I got bored.

The idea of career is nice, but the AI races under completely different physics than you do so there is really no competition, they just accelerate faster/brake later if you increase difficulty, but they always use trajectories that would be impossible for you to use.

So I just free practice a lot and then join online races, because that's where the real fun is.

Some of the track selection on the FA schedule was crazy. Road America, Watkins Glen, and Laguna Seca was cool.
Donington and Brands Hatch felt too cramped in the FA. People always wonder "oh wouldn't it be cool if F1 went back to Donington Park or Brands Hatch?", it wouldn't work. The tracks feel too small now.
Sakitto is by far the worse track in the game and the worse race of the season. I would rather WMD add Fuji instead of some shitty fake Suzuka without Casio Triangle and without the hairpin to dodge copyright laws.

That was one cool part about doing FormulaGT in Gran Turismo 4, it had both Fuji and Suzuka.

On Sky Sports during the COTA weekend I think it was Ted was spreading rumors that Laguna Seca might get re-modeled by Tilke and host a new US grand prix in California. and the latest I heard from COTA is that they might be in danger of losing the grand prix. And Austin was the highlight of the past season too. And COTA is already in danger of being dropped from the calendar. That's how fucked up F1 can be sometimes. >>
>>14263855
I tried a lot using the green technique but I can't get used to it.
Having always used the red one, I find the green one too imprecise, I never manage to keep the stick perfectly vertical to drive on a straight line (and I can't just crank the deadzone up because then it becomes unusable) and the friction between the stick and the edge of the stick area always screws up with precise manoeuvring.

Maybe it's the ps4 controller that is shit for that kind of use, but I really can't drive like that.
