Okay guys, today is the first time I will buy a newer sports car. I've already owned a miata, a beetle, a civic, and chevy pickup (inb4 meme cars). Now, I've had a very good job for about a year now, and I expect to hold this job for the next 10-15 years (80k annually). I've basically narrowed it down to 2 cars, the 2015 Subaru BRZ or the 2015 Ford EcoBoost Mustang. They are both new, have similar warranties, and cost about the same. I cannot exceed a 27k budget out the door.

Which is better, the Toyobaru or the 4 banger stang? Is there a better car in this price range?

Please excuse the ugly pic, took 15 seconds on paint.
>>
>>14254399
>not getting 27 corollas
But seriously, Ford a shit
>>
Forgot to add, I've already test driven both of these cars. The BRZ was a lot more "fun to drive". It was nimble, the steering felt good, good visibility. Only thing I can't shake is the lack of power it makes. I was pulling 3k RPM at 70 mph on the freeway in 6th gear.

The Mustang was noticeably faster, the interior was a lot better, more roomy. It felt a lot more daily drivable, but I can't get over how huge that thing felt. Visibility was total ass, car felt a lot heavier. But it ended up being 2k less than the BRZ out the door, full warranty, and more packaged features. HELP ME.
>>
Test drive both and see which one you like. Also ask yourself if you will regret buying an Ecoboost instead of saving a bit more for a GT.
>>
ford has a turbis

worst case ontario, crate 302 swap
>>
>>14254432

I already test drove both, as mentioned in my last post. And the GT 5.0 is completely out of the question. the brand new, fully packaged 2015 Ecoboost was 27k total, a base model 5.0 was 39k. I'm paying half cash, half financed,

give the Fiesta ST a test drive too, it easily competes with the BRZ in the fun factor department
>>
>>14254432
Typed up before >>14254422 was posted.

Well OP, just ask yourself which you'd rather live with. Is a big car that bad, or is a car that's not quite as quick so bad? That 3k Rpm is where it's supposed to be though, that little torque dip is working to get you good fuel economy for long drives.
>>
>>14254399
If you absolutely have to get one of the two, get the Toyobaru.

Mustangs are a dime a dozen. At least the 86 will be somewhat unique.
>>
>>14254422
Mustang and spend the 2k you saved on mods. Although really I'd get a lightly used 15 gt even if I had to go over budget.
>>
>>14254399
Don't buy either of these. You could buy a much better used car.

>>14254454

I did test drive the Focus ST, didn't feel that much different from the regular focus, besides make me feel like I was going faster than I really was haha. My first car was a mk4 gti and it was very unreliable, haven't really looked into the newer GTIs desu senpai
>>
You should get this for 23k instead https://www.beepi.com/Buy/scion/fr-s/2015/JF1ZNAA19F8709354

>>
>>14254513
Insurance is surprisingly cheap and Caymans are very easily daily drivable

>needing more than 2 seats
Do you have kids?
>>
>>14254511
I wish man, I've looked everywhere for the last 2 weeks. I'm in vegas, and people want gold for their shit here. I could pay close to 17k cash, but people want 22k for used toyobarus, when I could get a brand new 2016 for 2-3k more.
>>
>>14254507
My mk6 hasnt let me down but i dont like the way the new mk7s look But you might check them out
Also the focus rs just came out
Its out of ur price range but its cheaper than the 5.0 and in my opinion better
>>
>>14254523
So go outside Vegas and drive it home.

For example, within 300 miles of where I live there's 20 for less than $18k. Three for under $17k.

Op are you a little slow.

The brz is the best choice. You know the old Honda NSX and how low it was? The brz will be more like that than the mustang. It has that sports car feel. The mustang is a huge car and doesn't feel sporty.

Drive the brz. You will soon realize it is the best even if it isn't as fast.

Look at motor trends ultimate drag races. The brz never crosses the line that far behind.

Plus it looks good and feels special.

Well, it's certainly closer to the NSX than the mustang, which is enormous by comparison. And BRZ is still smaller in every dimension, aside from height.
>>
>>14257227
Most FA20 engine are under 100k miles its to early to tell how reliable. And yes I'd rather have a v6 coupe accord than an 4 cylinder Mustang. At least it's not trying to look fast.

They're closely related to the FB, which has also been reliable so far.

Most Scion dealers won't budge on price. Most Subaru dealers will. And the price difference isn't that high unless you're getting the upgraded trim BRZ.

Pretty sure OP is comparing prices new. In which case:

FRS = $25,305
BRZ = $25,395 ($27,395 for the Limited)

But yes, the BRZ will retain its value much better than the FRS in the used market.

also your fake plastic fender vents complete the boy racer look i'm a big fan. throw an aluminum wing on that thing and it will be perfect.
>>
I've test driven both these cars.

The brz has better visibility, you sit way lower, and just feels more special. That said it is true its slow. But if you can get over that its much better in every other way.

After getting out of the frs and into the mustang, you immediately feel like you are sitting in a truck. The hood is huge you sit way higher, and visibility is pretty meh. The power is much better and honestly the handling is pretty decent but the steering feels very disconnected and that accompanied with the high seating position makes it not feel like a true sports car.

The brz has all the attributes of a great sports car. The looks, the seating position, the handling. The one thing its lacking is the power. This is a huge one...but for me i'd still take the brz.
>>
>>14254399

Buy a lightly used 370Z or a BMW. Mustangs are stupid big and the BRZ is pathetically slow. Also two seats is fine. You aren't going to be putting a car seat in the back of a two door anyway. How about the Hyundai Genesis? It's lighter than the Mustang (I think?) and certainly faster than the FRZ. It seems like the middle ground between the two cars. Alternatively, if you don't like the idea of owning a Korean car, there's the 370Z, which is also a middle ground car.

>paying over 30k+ for a golf, slightly different golf, shitty merc slapped with amg labels, or a french car you can't even buy in NA

>Does the BRZ just have shorter gears?

It's close ratio with sixth being the only overdrive.

Though the auto has a taller final drive ratio.

if you're in the u.k. get the mustang.

Those cars make alot of sense when you have high taxes. In Europe there are no affordable "V8 moutors", even V6 are expensive.
Here those cars are good choices for the price (except for the Merc that costs over 70k €).
So you can get the ideia i give you this example:
>Mustang 2.3 Ecoboost 315hp - 48k€
>Mustang 5.0 V8 421hp - 90k€

Damn I got a used 15 for less than that carmax seems like a complete rip off

Stock Subaru WRX.

Later on you can install racing seats and it's the best thing for that money

>AWD
>268hp
>Good looking
>Four doors
>Performs well on or off road and on the track

looks good from the front, looks like a nissan sentra from every other angle.

It's also fucking unreliable. WRX isn't your Subaru wagon dykes drive.

If you get the Toyobaru, get a BRZ in World Rally Blue, my money is on it having the best resale value down the line, and I simply think it's the best-looking version.

I'm not a fan of the car itself, though. I haven't gotten the "special" feeling when driving them, it just felt like a Miata with a really good hardtop and the interior is cheesy and awkward. It certainly can't compete with the Cayman.

i plan on getting a mustang sometime soon. im going the v6 route though. aftermarket turbo kit makes it the best bang for your buck of any new car imo.
