Okay guys, today is the first time I will buy a newer sports car. I've already owned a miata, a beetle, a civic, and chevy pickup (inb4 meme cars). Now, I've had a very good job for about a year now, and I expect to hold this job for the next 10-15 years (80k annually). I've basically narrowed it down to 2 cars, the 2015 Subaru BRZ or the 2015 Ford EcoBoost Mustang. They are both new, have similar warranties, and cost about the same. I cannot exceed a 27k budget out the door.
Which is better, the Toyobaru or the 4 banger stang? Is there a better car in this price range?
Please excuse the ugly pic, took 15 seconds on paint.
Forgot to add, I've already test driven both of these cars. The BRZ was a lot more "fun to drive". It was nimble, the steering felt good, good visibility. Only thing I can't shake is the lack of power it makes. I was pulling 3k RPM at 70 mph on the freeway in 6th gear.
The Mustang was noticeably faster, the interior was a lot better, more roomy. It felt a lot more daily drivable, but I can't get over how huge that thing felt. Visibility was total ass, car felt a lot heavier. But it ended up being 2k less than the BRZ out the door, full warranty, and more packaged features. HELP ME.
I already test drove both, as mentioned in my last post. And the GT 5.0 is completely out of the question. the brand new, fully packaged 2015 Ecoboost was 27k total, a base model 5.0 was 39k. I'm paying half cash, half financed,
give the Fiesta ST a test drive too, it easily competes with the BRZ in the fun factor department

Well OP, just ask yourself which you'd rather live with. Is a big car that bad, or is a car that's not quite as quick so bad? That 3k Rpm is where it's supposed to be though, that little torque dip is working to get you good fuel economy for long drives.
Used Cayman S
Faster than the Mustang and more nimble than the FRS
Such as? This will be my primary car for the next 5 years, so I would like to spend the least time under my car as possible
I did test drive the Focus ST, didn't feel that much different from the regular focus, besides make me feel like I was going faster than I really was haha. My first car was a mk4 gti and it was very unreliable, haven't really looked into the newer GTIs desu senpai
I wish man, I've looked everywhere for the last 2 weeks. I'm in vegas, and people want gold for their shit here. I could pay close to 17k cash, but people want 22k for used toyobarus, when I could get a brand new 2016 for 2-3k more.
My mk6 hasnt let me down but i dont like the way the new mk7s look But you might check them out
Also the focus rs just came out
Its out of ur price range but its cheaper than the 5.0 and in my opinion better
So go outside Vegas and drive it home.
For example, within 300 miles of where I live there's 20 for less than $18k. Three for under $17k.
>2 seater is very impractical
here ya go you cuck
Not as of yet, but I do plan on having kids within the time the loan would last. But idk, I love these cars, but I've never actually driven one. I'll see if one pops out for sale and I'll go test drive it.
I would love a Focus RS, but 35k MSRP base and launch still months away really turns me off.
WRX? Genisis? Are there any sporty Lexus in that price range?
Bmw, merc, and Audi a shit for that range I'm pretty sure.
>a base model 5.0 was 39k
Base GT is 32k american if i recall correctly. With PP, the only package you should be getting it's 34k. And this is 2016 model numbers i'm pulling, should be lower if youre going 2015.
Subaru does not negotiate AT ALL on their WRXs, I tried looking at those, and they go for like 30k base. Say what you want, I can't fully trust Hyundai. And the only eurolux car I can get for my price range are all base models, lowest trims.
He said he wanted a new reliable one desu
I own an E36 M3, Shits been reliable as fuck but it's no where near new.
No Lexus's? I'm not sure about their line up so you'd have to look around
best car under 27k?
bf xr6 turbo with 10k of mods. 400kw fury machine
oh wait you americans can't have it what a pity
what about a 297 clubsport/senator..oh wait can't have that either must suck to live in a shitty country
its tiptronic. not even that bad. still an auto but isn't that bad you autistic fuck. I've driven a 350rwkw xr6 turbo with the 6spd auto and the fact it isn't a manual doesn't even cross your mind as soon as you put your boot in it
my opinions still better and more fun than some turbo 4 banger mustang. what an uneventful sounding pile of shit. also the worst part is you have to tell people you bought a mustang and didn't get the V8
You will regret the ecoboost, just ask any ecoboost owner and they would say they wish they got the v8. I want an 86 myself but not sure about the reliability of the engine. I would get an Honda accord v6 coupe manual. At least it won't look like your trying hard and it will be pretty quick
>but not sure about the reliability of the engine
The only ones with issues have been abused. If you don't like crickets, avoid it.
>I would get an Honda accord v6 coupe manual.
Over a Mustang?
Op are you a little slow.
The brz is the best choice. You know the old Honda NSX and how low it was? The brz will be more like that than the mustang. It has that sports car feel. The mustang is a huge car and doesn't feel sporty.
Drive the brz. You will soon realize it is the best even if it isn't as fast.
Look at motor trends ultimate drag races. The brz never crosses the line that far behind.
Plus it looks good and feels special.
>You know the old Honda NSX and how low it was?
Well, it's certainly closer to the NSX than the mustang, which is enormous by comparison. And BRZ is still smaller in every dimension, aside from height.
Most FA20 engine are under 100k miles its to early to tell how reliable. And yes I'd rather have a v6 coupe accord than an 4 cylinder Mustang. At least it's not trying to look fast.
>The brz is just an frs with an extra 3-5k for the subaru name.
Most Scion dealers won't budge on price. Most Subaru dealers will. And the price difference isn't that high unless you're getting the upgraded trim BRZ.
There is literally only one answer.
Idk about that but at any rate for my gf's fr-s i got them down to 19k with a full cash offer and retained the warranties from the previous owner. Granted its carmax but the price difference is definately there even without the limited brz
Pretty sure OP is comparing prices new. In which case:
FRS = $25,305
BRZ = $25,395 ($27,395 for the Limited)
But yes, the BRZ will retain its value much better than the FRS in the used market.
brz's are for faggots. i'm sorry but you have obviously never driven a car that is faster than you shitmobile econobox disguised as a sportscar and you know it. there is a minimum power required for a new car and the brz comes up way short.
>there is a minimum power required for a new car
Its true tho. Only a fool would spend upwards of 25k on a car that would get its ass handed to it by my 25 year old mitsubishi. in stock trim might i add. the brz is a cuck car for women and children.
if you want to own an appliance car that looks pretty power to you but no enthusiest worth a damn would waste their time. thats just simple fact. toyubaru could have put a decent engine in the car but chose not to. you don't have to get all butthurt because you made a shitty purchase. if the car was ugly no one would buy it. its a meme car for those who came from fwd and think hondas are fast
whatever you have to tell yourself to stop from crying when you make that car payment on your brz sweetie. this is what the rest of the automotive world thinks of you. rwd meme car. just like the miata. if either were fwd no one would bother and you know it.
hey not everyone wants to pay more to go slower. if it wasn't for suckers like you toyubaru would be forced to not make shitty cars but thank god for the rwd meme lovers.
also your fake plastic fender vents complete the boy racer look i'm a big fan. throw an aluminum wing on that thing and it will be perfect.
I've test driven both these cars.
The brz has better visibility, you sit way lower, and just feels more special. That said it is true its slow. But if you can get over that its much better in every other way.
After getting out of the frs and into the mustang, you immediately feel like you are sitting in a truck. The hood is huge you sit way higher, and visibility is pretty meh. The power is much better and honestly the handling is pretty decent but the steering feels very disconnected and that accompanied with the high seating position makes it not feel like a true sports car.
The brz has all the attributes of a great sports car. The looks, the seating position, the handling. The one thing its lacking is the power. This is a huge one...but for me i'd still take the brz.
If you buy a FRZ you are an actual retard and we don't want you around. It's not that you like something different, it is that you have broadcast to the world that you are a fucking idiot and don't even know it.
We aren't a bunch of brand fags saying you bought the wrong car. We look at you and we see a faggot that is trying to buy himself into a lifestyle. You aren't a racer or a sports car enthusiast, you are a fucking poser. Nobody likes posers.
Buy a lightly used 370Z or a BMW. Mustangs are stupid big and the BRZ is pathetically slow. Also two seats is fine. You aren't going to be putting a car seat in the back of a two door anyway. If you are serious about the kids thing you have to buy a four door. Focus ST is nice. Its FWD but at least it isn't pathetically slow like the BRZ.
>You aren't a racer or a sports car enthusiast
I have a sportbike if I want to go fast, and its faster than that turd you call a car. Now I want you to show me a BRAND new rwd car that costs under $27k.
Buying a brand new car at the under 30k price point is pants on head retarded. But since you asked, mustang doesn't suck. Miata at least gets you a drop top. Buy a car with like 10k miles you dummy.
When will you ever move out of your moms house? Stop driving around the twins trying to race them at stop lights with her v8 van laughing like we care.
It's like when a 350z with horrible exhaust and huge wing, Pulled along side me on i5 revving furiously while I looked over looked at his trunk exaggerated a laugh and kept driving, pissed off he sped off and got off at woodland exit.
What a bad ass mature v6 300hp mature adult.
>Not getting a used lexus for 10K and saving the rest for something really important in life
>inb4 but i can pay for this
Sure, enjoy being poor forever, because you waste money on new cars.
Srsly, how hard is it to get a used car, ffs?
How about the Hyundai Genesis? It's lighter than the Mustang (I think?) and certainly faster than the FRZ. It seems like the middle ground between the two cars. Alternatively, if you don't like the idea of owning a Korean car, there's the 370Z, which is also a middle ground car.
Miata - light, slow
FRZ - light, slow
Genesis - medium
370Z - medium
Mustang - heavy, fast
Camaro - heavy, fast
Not OP, but I'm in a similar situation and I didn't feel the need to create a new thread. I'm looking to spend at most 26k and I was looking at 2012 135i's and 2013 G37's. Can I do better?
New Civic Type R, that's the only right choice.
That maybe look too mad for some people, but i like it.
>JDM is life
Those cars make alot of sense when you have high taxes. In Europe there are no affordable "V8 moutors", even V6 are expensive.
Here those cars are good choices for the price (except for the Merc that costs over 70k €).
So you can get the ideia i give you this example:
>Mustang 2.3 Ecoboost 315hp - 48k€
>Mustang 5.0 V8 421hp - 90k€
Stock Subaru WRX.
Later on you can install racing seats and it's the best thing for that money
>Performs well on or off road and on the track
If you get the Toyobaru, get a BRZ in World Rally Blue, my money is on it having the best resale value down the line, and I simply think it's the best-looking version.
I'm not a fan of the car itself, though. I haven't gotten the "special" feeling when driving them, it just felt like a Miata with a really good hardtop and the interior is cheesy and awkward. It certainly can't compete with the Cayman.
