ITT we mock faggots who just bought a "winter beater"
>>
Why the fuck wouldn't you just DD a winter-capable car? That's 1 less car to own.
>>
>>14240674
A lot of people have very nice cars they would like to keep as far away from salt and retarded drivers as possible
>>
[SHOTS FIRED]
>>
>Needing a winter beater
>living in a winter state
>not having a dd capable of doing winter driving
>not only having to do winter driving when you decide to go up to the mountains
>not pressure washing your underbody after driving on salted roads
>>
>>14240677
The "very nice car" is probably more equipped to deal with harsh elements than a car from a previous point in history that didn't do as good a job of rust-proofing, as an example.
>>
>>14240688
Um my mazda is too low for any snow, also rwd, I will be enjoying my based xj and I suggest you pick one up
>>
>>14240707
>not DDing a lifted 4wd
>>
>buy 2011 Audi A4 2.0T Quattro for winter
>only snowed .00000002" in Allentown, PA so far

Fine by me.
>>
>>14240713
Depends where / what ya do

Best combo = manual sports car + 4x4 auto, daily reminder
>>
>>14240697
Talking more like classic Datsuns, 30-year old Mercs, restored F-series Fords and so on

I really don't question why people do this, I can completely understand. If I ever get my dream car (W126 SEC) I'll never drive it in winter around here, no matter what. I can get the tires I want just fine, I can completely proof the underside so it won't rust for anything, but still I really would not want to put a car like that out there

>Clears codes
>Runs fine ever since and deals with snow like a champ

I'm not sure if I regret it or not.
>>
>>14240732
You're talking about classic cars.

Yes, nobody expects to see a 300SL on snow tires plowing through Vermont in the winter, correct.
>>
>>14240741
>16k

dun goofd
>>
>>14240751
Exactly - and a lot of people actually only have cars like that (not necessarily 300SL-like, but you get what I mean).

But, if you have a completely normal daily-driver like a Civic, Corolla or similar and you live in a civilized part of the world you should have absolutely no issue driving that car during winter with the proper know-how and kit
>>
>>14240731
>not manual 4x4
I don't really care for driving fast on my commute or have time for weekend joyrides so just the 4x4 works for me
>>
my winter beater is more reliable than my regular car though.
>>
>>14240674
>>14240677
DD = Winter Beater
Nice car is for sunny days and weekends.

>>14240760
>you should have absolutely no issue driving that car during winter
This. I daily a Civic and throw on winter tires when snow comes around.
>>
>>14240697
As much as I love rust, I would like to keep as much of it as possible off my summer car.
>>
>>14240788

I'm solidly middle class and I've owned more than one car almost every year consistently since I was 21. Is everyone on /o/ a welfare grade poorfag?
>>
>>14240801
You don't have to be wealthy to own two cars. Summer car might be an NA Miata you want to keep nice and away from salt.

I bought a winter beater. 99 Saab 9-3, its fucking great man.

This is why I don't drive my nice car in the winter.
>>
>>14240896
>don't have to live with southerners
>>
>>14240732
If they have those, then they can probably get a loaded Civic for $4,000 that's in mint condition and DD that for the next 20 years. There's no need to buy a new "winter beater" every year.
>>
>>14240857
I live in the city and have 2 cars 1 parking space and the street. It's called dedicated. I'm technically in poverty, but I have not seen my w2 yet.
>>
>>14240671
why would a "winter beater" be unreliable? It's just a cheap car you don't care about replacing because of "muh rust" in a couple years.

>get a load of these ivory tower faggots
>>
>>14241169
People actually do that?
>>
>>14240812
again, why would a winter beater have to be unreliable? Why would somebody buy an unreliable car on purpose? Why wouldn't they just buy a cheap reliable car that they don't care about rusting up?

I think certain people have a misconception about the whole term 'winter beater'.
It doesnt simply refer to buying a beater or a lemon to drive in the winter because your regular is in the garage / under the wraps but about buying a _winter_ beater, something simple yet reliable to beat the winter, yet something where not much is lost when it needs to be gone.

pic only semi related.
>>
>>14241345
or think of it this way; off season you DD something older and not necessarily very DDable or reliable in shitty weather. then you go and buy something more reliable to beat the winter, not necessarily something more expensive but more reliable give the nature of winter in colder places.
>>
I think buying any car for any specific season of weather is fucking stupid.

Buy cars that you like and plan accordingly. I for one am not about to park a FWD SUB shitbox just to drive through a couple inches of snow for 3 months out of the year.

I will however, equip my RWD sedan with snow tires, and drive cautiously on inclement weather.

Dont forget the roads in alot of places that freeze over and snow a plenty are covered in heaps and heaps of sand/gravel and most of all, assloads of salt.

I dd the same thing all year around but then on the other hand it doesnt have much value to begin with. and its relatively reliable.
>>
As others have said, I need to keep my fun car away from salt and the idiots on the road.

If you aren't a poverty stricken nigger then buying a $1000 piece of shit for winter isn't a big deal.

Your precious baby is probably also a piece of shit. Enjoy buying pieces of shit to protect other pieces of shit.

Why would anybody have a nice car in the Northern states that have constant snowfall?

BRB buying a summer beater.

This
If you buy a $1000 corolla for DD and winter beater then you're set for cheap
>>
>>14244331
This, it's just a car that you don't care about that's reliable, even if it's a little rough around the edges. I have a Ranger for a winter beater/DD when the Mustang is torn apart for something. Reliable little fucker.
