Yes, it's possible for your car to turn 'on'(Accessory) and not 'start' (ignition). If it sometimes does this, but otherwise runs fine, then probably points to the starter motor. First, however; I'd just check your battery. Get a multi-meter, stick it to your battery, if it's reading lower than 11.9v-12.4v then your battery could very well be the issue.

So, check battery then starter.

I don't think so. "Jump starting' is more or less just sticking an extra battery to your car. The starter motor will still need to perform it's job to get your engine turned over.

There is an old 'trick' about hitting your starter with a hammer to get some more life out of it when it's on it's last leg. I ultimately think that depends if you're the kind of person who believes in percussive maintenance.

Use vagcom to check that you're not getting errors with the immobilizer. Also protip to strain your starter less in the winter: use lighter oil, like W0-40.

I recently had a problem with my volvo s80 very similar to what you're having and it was indeed a bad battery. I replaced the battery and it was fine after that. I'd try some of the other cheap stuff mentioned first like cleaning the terminals and checking your grounds just to make sure because batteries are sorta expensive.

Yeah you've probably killed the battery now that you've tried starting it so many times. If it didn't start the first 20 times why the fuck would it start now.
Get some jumper cables and charge it up for a few minutes or hook it up to a battery charger.
Then clean your terminals, grounds and connections on the starter.
If it still has starting issues get a new battery they're like $100 at walmart you damn poorfag.
