Miata too heavy?
What can u do to make my 1.6l NA Miata lighter? My friend has a CRX Si and he keeps kicking my ass
Having a rough time with 5th and 6th gen civics, 3 and 4 prelude, s13, Mustang sn95 and foxbody, and the fucking rx7
Also this asshole kid in a newer mustang, the gen where the face went flat and the lights got rounder keeps harassing me
Can I do a trunk delete?
Does having no top at all benefit more than a CF hardtop? Or does no top at all ruin aero too much.
Is it possible to get rid of that little back space alcove where the end of the top meets the trunk they have for you to throw shit in?
I already smashed out the pop ups, removed the bottom bumper smile thing entirely
CF hood on the way
Tiny ass enkei rpf1 on the way
It still has to be street legal so I can DD it guys
I need more stuff to lighten this fuckin thing
What other stuff can I do
What are the lightest weight batteries
CF trunk worth it? Should I just remove the trunk top entirely ?
I've done a lot of that stuff, plus ripped our all the badging
I have stripped the interior, including dash
Basically a mess of wires lol
Removed the other seat too
Replaced my seat with lighter racing one
Removed all the shifter accessories , basically just a long stick
It's all bare metal with just my seat in it now
Should I weld my doors ? Buy CF doors and weld them on?
I can't find anything
I know a rotary specialist who has a fresh and clean tt FD engine but in not really sure
Plus that'd eat a lot of my budget
Not asking you to do an engine swap, just see what you can get out of your current one without doing a full retard tune that.
Cold air intake, larger throttle body + throttle body spacer, a small turbo or supercharger, and some high-flow cat-back exhaust, high-flow catalytic converter, new exhaust header.
Your car is lighter, has better weight distro, better braking distances and a better turning radius.
Out fucking corner him you moron. Are you hitting your apexes?
Get fiberglass or plastic. CF is used in professional motorsport because it's stronger than steel and they go extremely fucking fast and need that extra strength. You don't.
If you brake to 130 MPH and your wheels have 90% grip (the best cornering grip because physics and shit) when you hit the apex of a 90 degree turn, Carbon fiber is a good resource to build your car out of because everything that isn't steel will disintegrate if you crash and steel is fucking heavy.
You are hitting your apexes, right?
The 037 used a supercharger and it was a 4banger.
And I know a guy who walked away unscathed from a smart car that got ran off the road on the highway. Doesn't mean that the car is safe.
The miata is legitimately absolutely fucking awful in the safety aspect. It was sold so cheap for a reason.
>I got t-boned by a 1st gen Jeep Grand Cherokee who ran a red light. The Jeep flipped and landed on its roof, and I was able to hop out of my car with minimal injury.
one simple trick.
Lose weight. You heard it right. Lose fucking weight
Because most miata owners are 400+lbs, its no wonder the engine cries out and the owners cry when a fucking civic smoked them
Its a fact that the best racers are fit
You already have the lightest or second-lightest car there. You have the best suspension. You have the best brakes. Power will be easier to add and not ruin the car. Don't waste your money on carbon fiber parts, they're retardedly expensive for very little weight loss.
It's common sense Anon.
Miatas are fucking tiny and come from an era where car safety was "Okay crumple zone in the front, seatbelts here, airbags. Car's now safe"
But the truth of the matter is that it's tiny mass and shitty construction make it a rolling grave. Sorry anon, but even a golf is safer. Do you see that picture I posted? That was a 50 mile an hour crash. One passenger died the other was in critical condition. 50 miles an hour is babby pace.
I don't understand why this is hard for you to accept.
No I'm saying drive whatever you want but be informed about safety standards too. I myself am gunning after a Porsche 964 which are also deathtraps.
But I don't care. I don't mind owning something that beautiful, fun and fast with the tradeoff that it might actually kill me. The high level of danger is something you have to accept if you get into high performance cars, ESPECIALLY if you are racing them.
F1 drivers are the cream of the crop and even they crash and die in their multi-million dollar super track monsters.
>He isn't informed about the dangers of going fast
Sometimes this board amazes me. Half seem to understand that cars are dangerous and the other half seems to be under the impression that if they drove 150 mph into a brick wall they'd be okay.
>initial D says
Then modify your sports car to be faster
Heavy, + no power + front wheel drive = shit.
That question has to be bait.
>Front tires get worn faster due to having to accelerate, brake, and steer
>Weight shifts to the rear during take off, after turns, ect.
God, you sound so butthurt.
They are. There's nothing wrong with that. Some are pretty fun little grocery getters. I drive a big heavy grocery getter that most any civic made in the last ten years will whoop in a straight line or in the turns. I'm okay with that. But I wouldn't be if I drove a sports car.
This is a meme
Understeer is like snap oversteer or engine inflammation
Not universal and only applies to the cars that don't know what they're doing
How on earth can you be this ignorant ? They're sports cars
Huh? They're easier to get in decent condition than an mx5, cheaper too.
What planet are you from I said si not type r, type R's are rarer and more expensive sure, but would leave a miata in the dust.
Another couple of suggestions pug 205gti (rare but usually pretty cheap)
Toyota Levin ( ae101 I think (might be ae111) another cheap underestimated car)
Also seen Nissan bluebirds go hard especially the sr20 powered ones, easy to find bolt-on turbos too.
If you're serious about weight reduction look at how the d1 guys go about it, strip all the metal except for the frame rails off the front and either go with all frp panels or a one-piece front end. Drysump with drysump container in the boot.
Some of em use rear mounted radiators like WRC too
>mfw no worthwhile miata in area for sale
I've never wrenched on a car or even driven manual but I figured a real shit 1200 dollar miata would be a great place to start but I cant even find a shitty one let alone a decent one
You have plenty of good cars available
But you want a fucking miata
Miata are a dime a dozen where I live, but I want something else, I hate miata
But I can't but anything
No Volvo no k platform no dsm no s chassis no subaru
Just shitty fucking miatas
I figured if I'm going to start off with something that will pretty much inevitably be scrapped I'd start off with something easy, common, cheap, and decently fun
After I've got a bit of experience under my belt I'd love to jump in to an s chassis or subaru but I'm not confident to jump right in to that
Also every s chassis in my area is a rusted out drift missile with a body kit for 7k
Well I hope so. I was hoping to scoop one up so I could get it full well and ready for this summer
If not I'll have to settle on whatever deal I can manage to find
how the fuck would any of this make me spoiled
I just need a piece of shit to learn with so I don't destroy something worthwhile.
He's a spoiled brat for not wanting to wreck an expensive car? And he's in Wisconsin. I'm in minnesota. Winter is harsh here, it's cold as fuck and the roads can be skating rinks half the time. A lot of miatas are tucked away in garages, and will be put up for sale in the spring.
I'm an idiot for stating my observations? I'm sure there have to be other cars for sale I'd you really don't want a miata. Do you have any particular style in mind, like a muscle car or a lighter, smaller coupe?
I think you're the fucking idiot here. I don't care if I drive a neon pink miata with a giant dick sticking off the front with TOP KEK written on it in sparkly lime green glitter
I'm getting this so I can get my hands dirty since I have no experience whatsoever working on cars or driving manuals
I'm not going to go to the intersection and try to race faggots or go to a show and show off my slammed miata. I want to put a little work in and then go fast around deserted roads until it literally dies so I can move on
Blah blah blah
You're a spoiled brat who still doesn't get it
No there is fucking nothing good anywhere near me, I'm sick of miatas, they're honestly overrated and feel like shit to drive
What makes him a spoiled brat? Do you mind if I take a look on your local craigslist? I'm sure there has to be something you'd want. I get that yiu don't want a miata, that's why I'm asking for alternatives.
Your though process is correct though. If cheap Miatas are unavailable in your area, just consider other cars:
- BMW E36
- Ford Focus
- Ford Fiesta ST
- Renault Clio RS
- Peugeot 306 GTi
I personally have a Miata, but that is due to the fact that a NA Miata is cheaper than all of these where I live. Pretty much all these cars are faster than a Miata, easy to work on, also fun to drive and have a decent aftermarket.
Don't get me wrong, I love my Miat, but there are other cheap cars for wrenching/weekend driving out there. The Miat seems to be getting close to what I would call overpriced in a lot of areas.
I give up. Have a pic of my Miata, faggot.
All those 16 year olds.
CF anything is not worth it. Cut up your trunk lid like this dude: http://www.lightweightmiata.com/beast/lightness/
Also keep the hardtop but change the rear glass window with a diy acryl one. You can do this for literally under 100 bucks: http://clubroadster.net/vb_forum/86-diy-how-writeups/17085-making-lexan-hardtop-window.html
For more power at a budget, follow this guide: http://www.solomiata.com/CheapHP.html about 115whp (about 135hp) with less than 1000 bucks out of the 1.6l engine. Also, adding a header and a stainless steel catback will save some more weight, compared to the iron header and stock muffler.
Don't get rid of the body panels or stuff that makes the car unsafe or nearly undrivable .
This is the most I would do:
Hardtop w/soft top delete, lightweight trunk, get rid of spare tire, front lip (helps with aero), cut the rear bumper cover a little so that air flows out from under it better.
The actual bumper cores weigh a fuck ton but if you value safety at all, leave them. Doors are also heavy but again, fiberglass or carbon doors aren't going to protect you in a crash as well.
Anything after what I have listed is pretty much diminishing returns and very unsafe. It is at this point that you need to go turbo or LS3.
Check out miataturbo.net. They can be pretty crass to newfags so lurk the threads alot before you post. With their help you could make 270 HP for like, $3000. It would all be bolt on you just have to know what your doing. Also check out TheCarPassionChannel. He explains this all very well.
As to the spirit of what your doing here, I don't really approve. Beating shingos and gay retards in a straight line isn't what these cars are about.
Instead of trying to make it lighter give it more power you twat
Doesn't matter if it weighs 500kg, 100hp is fucking nothing and you'll still get btfo by 2000kg 450hp cars in the power to weight department
