- BMW E36
- Ford Focus
- Ford Fiesta ST
- Renault Clio RS
- Peugeot 306 GTi
etc.

I personally have a Miata, but that is due to the fact that a NA Miata is cheaper than all of these where I live. Pretty much all these cars are faster than a Miata, easy to work on, also fun to drive and have a decent aftermarket.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Miat, but there are other cheap cars for wrenching/weekend driving out there. The Miat seems to be getting close to what I would call overpriced in a lot of areas.

Don't get rid of the body panels or stuff that makes the car unsafe or nearly undrivable .

This is the most I would do:
Hardtop w/soft top delete, lightweight trunk, get rid of spare tire, front lip (helps with aero), cut the rear bumper cover a little so that air flows out from under it better.

The actual bumper cores weigh a fuck ton but if you value safety at all, leave them. Doors are also heavy but again, fiberglass or carbon doors aren't going to protect you in a crash as well.

Anything after what I have listed is pretty much diminishing returns and very unsafe. It is at this point that you need to go turbo or LS3.

Check out miataturbo.net. They can be pretty crass to newfags so lurk the threads alot before you post. With their help you could make 270 HP for like, $3000. It would all be bolt on you just have to know what your doing. Also check out TheCarPassionChannel. He explains this all very well.

As to the spirit of what your doing here, I don't really approve. Beating shingos and gay retards in a straight line isn't what these cars are about.
