MR2 Spyder refers to the ZZW30 chassis, I think that's a bit hard to get for under 3000. I could be wrong. Earlier MR2 easily, if OP doesn't mind the N/A versions and/or serious cases of rust/rot.

Foxbody, Firebird/Trans Am, Camaro, Miata, S13, Grand National, and a few others can be had well under $3k.

Best bets would be a Miata or Foxbody. They have the most aftermarket, and the cheapest parts. S13s are cheap, but often require a lot of repairs or complete rebuilds to get operational. Firebirds, Camaros, Grand Nationals, and other old murrican muscle are often in trash condition or aren't as common.

They can be found if you're lucky. My dad bought his for $1.5k, completely trash interior, but the car itself was in fine working order. He ended up gutting the interior, and refurbishing the whole thing. Now it runs like new.

GNs can be had in pristine condition for 9-11k. Projects, although rare, can be had for 2500-5k depending on how bad they are.

Thing with these is most of them were preserved very well and projects are few and far between.

Also, people greatly overvalue these cars. They see a 11/10 example sell for 30k at a televised auction and think their car is worth the same on the free market. There's 5 GNs for sale here locally between 15-20k and all of them have been sitting for sale for over a year. People just don't buy them at the prices most people are asking nowadays. They're fun cars, but at the end of the day it's just a G-body and with an LS swap any 2k Monte Carlo or Cutlass will outrun them.

Nah, they fall into the Muscle Car category. With some mods they're fast as hell in the straight but a sports car has to be able to corner.
