Actually in my MR2 I tried to downshift from fifth to fourth and somehow got it in second for about a second. Granted I hadn't let the clutch out very much as it banged past the rev limiter ~7800 to round 9500 before I could even fucking react. Scared the living shit out of me but the engine is fine.

Also notice how the only Toyota engines comparable to them were indirectly built/assisted by Yamaha in some way or form (anything with a G head and the UZ-series V8s). Even a 3SGE BEAMS says Yamaha on the valve cover.

Same with BMW and why they can build (or used to) high output high rev N/A engines. Motorcycle engine experience.
