nah I daily drive a manual but if I ever get a truck for towing or an old muscle car for drag racing it's probably going to be auto. auto is just superior in those applications.

Man i'd love to put a lenco in a shitbox.

The only cases an auto is better are in these:
>drag racing with loads of power
>towing
You can easily slip a clutch towing heavy loads in a truck. A large number of drag cars use 2spd Automatics so they only have to worry about one shift point.
These are the times when auto seems to be better, subjectively:
>traffic
Driving a stick in traffic is just as easy as an auto. Put it first gear, use no throttle, and use the clutch to get the car moving from just using the torque made at idle. Even shitty four cylinders can do it.
But in sports applications, automatics use up more power than a manual, up to 20-30hp in some applications. Manuals have very little loss in comparison. Manuals are also cheaper, last longer, and although they do have a maintenance item (Clutch) You can make them last 100k+ miles if you drive well. Manuals are easier to rebuild as well, helical gears being much simpler than planetary gears. They also allow you to start the car in emergency situations with a push start. An experienced manual driver can shift faster than most automatics.
Does anyone really think the new 8, 9, 10 speed autos will hold up and last as long as a 6 or 7 speed? No.

I prefer manual but it's nice to have automatic in a luxury car.
I have both. My summer "race car" is manual and my winter driftshitbox is a manuaul whereas my winter daily is an automatic and my summer DD is an autotragic too
