>President Donald Trump has fired FBI Director James Comey, the White House said in a statement Tuesday.

>"Today, President Donald J. Trump informed FBI Director James Comey that he has been terminated and removed from office.," according to the statement. "President Trump acted based on the clear recommendations of both Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and Attorney General Jeff Sessions."

>Comey, who has led an investigation into Russia’s meddling during the 2016 election and possible links to Trump aides and associates, is only the second FBI chief to have been fired.

Trump is America's Erdogan
>>
>>138121
Naah, he's more like a lazy version of Richard Nixon.

Why do you guys think Trump fired him?
Did he finally come to his senses and realize Comey is a Hillary weasel shill and underground saracen?

In any case, Comey was a corrupt piece of shit that before being director of the fbi he was a board member of a bank that was caught laundering money. He was being controlled by Hillary Clinton. This is all apart of her master plan to start WWIII and end humanity.
>>
fired for...? getting too close to revealing the truth, like Yates? because it sure as hell is not for the whole Clinton e-mail thing, which he certainly should have been at least disciplined for at the time.
>>
David Duke should be next FBI director. Let's put the "yeehaw" back into the FBI.

TRUMP: They had a quote from me that NATO's obsolete. But they didn't say why it was obsolete. I was on Wolf Blitzer, very fair interview, the first time I was ever asked about NATO, because I wasn't in government. People don't go around asking about NATO if I'm building a building in Manhattan, right? So they asked me, Wolf ... asked me about NATO, and I said two things. NATO's obsolete — not knowing much about NATO, now I know a lot about NATO — NATO is obsolete, and I said, "And the reason it's obsolete is because of the fact they don't focus on terrorism." You know, back when they did NATO there was no such thing as terrorism.

AP: What specifically has NATO changed?

TRUMP: (Cites Wall Street Journal article) ... I did an interview with Wolf Blitzer, and I said NATO was obsolete — I said two things — obsolete, and the country's aren't paying. I was right about both. I took such heat for about three days on both, because nobody ever criticized NATO. I took heat like you wouldn't believe. And then some expert on NATO said, "You know, Trump is right." But I said it was obsolete because they weren't focused on terror. ...

It's not fair that we're paying close to 4 percent and other countries that are more directly affected are paying 1 percent when they're supposed to be paying 2 percent. And I'm very strong on it and I'm going to be very strong on it when I go there in a month."

The F.B.I. sent a letter to Congress on Tuesday clarifying testimony last week by its director, James B. Comey, about how classified information ended up on the laptop of the disgraced former congressman Anthony Weiner.

Mr. Comey told the Senate Judiciary Committee that during the F.B.I.’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while secretary of state, officers uncovered evidence that Mrs. Clinton’s aide, Huma Abedin, had “forwarded hundreds and thousands of emails, some of which contain classified information” to Mr. Weiner, her husband.

But while some of the emails were forwarded, the F.B.I. told Congress that it was likely that the vast majority were instead backed up to Mr. Weiner’s laptop.

“Our investigation determined that Ms. Abedin commonly forwarded emails to others who would print documents for her,” Gregory A. Brower, the assistant director in the F.B.I.’s Office of Congressional Affairs, wrote in the letter to the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Senator Charles E. Grassley of Iowa.

“The FBI’s reputation and credibility have suffered substantial damage, and it has affected the entire Department of Justice,’’ Rosenstein wrote. “I cannot defend the director’s handling of the conclusion of the investigation of Secretary Clinton’s emails, and I do not understand his refusal to accept the nearly universal judgment that he was mistaken. Almost everyone agrees that the director made serious mistakes; it is one of the few issues that unites people of diverse perspectives.’’

In a letter to Trump, Attorney General Jeff Sessions said that he agreed.
>>
>>138138
looks like I was wrong about it not being the e-mails like I said in >>138129. it's not for the correct reason still. he shouldn't have taken anything to the court of public opinion, proximity of an election notwithstanding.
>>
>>138132
After the whole Bannon blunder, I don't think Trump would turn to Duke for that.
>>
Bye comey. We never liked you anyway, giant freak.

I love donald trump (the president of America)
>>
>>138140
Anyone who knows how the Apple iCloud works knows what he means by "formwarding" Huma and Anthony Weiner were in the same cloud, so he saw all of her emails. It's that simple really.

But even the most liberal press and Republican Senate Committees alike pretend like it's some complicated purposeful CC forwarding job involved for various political reasons.

2. Repeatedly quote Comey on his handling of the Clinton case.

4. Get investigated by Comey for treason.
5. Fire Comey citing his disgraceful handling of the Clinton case.

Seems about right for the clown show that is the Trump White House t b h

■ Mr. Comey was delivering a speech in Los Angeles when he learned he had been fired.

■ His dismissal drew a quick rebuke from Democrats, with several calling for an independent prosecutor to take over the investigation into Russian meddling in the election.
>>
>>138173
You just can't understand Trump's masterful strategy. He's playing fourth dimensional chess while you're still stuck with Grandma's tick-tack-toe.
>>
>>138175
Trump doesn't even know how to spell 4D.
>>
>>138128
I could see a few scenarios

1.Comey got too close to something really bad.

2. The grand juries that have been heavily rumored to be occurring decided not to indict, and this is Trump putting a bookend on the situation.

3. Trump and company have been looking to fire him for awhile, and they finally found enough of an excuse with his flub on Hillary's emails during the last hearing.

Regardless, the russia investigation looks to be dying. Republicans aren't going to install a special prosecutor, and Trump will install a yes man as the director.

>It was Rosenstein, a career prosecutor, who laid out the bill of particulars against Comey in a memorandum to Sessions. He was unsparing in his criticism of Comey’s handling of that matter, noting, “My perspective on these issues is shared by former attorneys general and deputy attorneys general from different eras and both political parties.”

>He said the FBI director had overstepped his authority and compounded the mistake by holding a news conference last July 5 in which he announced that he would not seek prosecution but during which he was sharply critical of Clinton. He was equally critical of Comey’s decision to announce in a letter to Congress last Oct. 28 that he was reopening the investigation, which Clinton’s advisers believe was a contributing factor to her loss to Trump in November.

>Rosenstein also said Comey was wrong to defend his actions, as recently as last week during testimony before a congressional committee. He ended by asserting, “The FBI is unlikely to regain public and congressional trust until it has a director who understands the gravity of the mistakes and pledges never to repeat them.”

Rosenstein makes a decent argument, but notably did not call for Comey's removal. I doubt Rosenstein's testimony was enough to make Trump have an ideological 180 about Comey within a few hours though
>>
>>138301
I imagine he'll lose a few more approval points, but he already has fucked up and that hasn't stopped Cletus from shitposting. I feel like the fake news defense will insulate his base until time proves him ineffective or a smoking gun is found. Honestly I think further action in Afghanistan will hurt him more than this, because his supporters have habitually been dismissing Russian allegations for nearly a year, but his isolationist platform is just now starting to crumble.
>>
>>138344
But why? Historically presidential systems have fallen apart because the legislative branch gridlocks and the president starts overstepping their bounds just to get something done. That's how a lot of Latin American govenrments have collapsed, and it's happening right now in Turkey. I'm sure you can all see that trend with W, Obama, and Trump, and I for one am somewhat reassured that the legislative branch always has a metaphorical gun at the back of the president's head.

Actual tangible and defined criminality, and evidence of said defined criminality beyond "anonymous sources say, it has been reported by an anonymous source, unnamed authorities believe".

Then why aren't Republicans agreeing to an independent investigation right now?
>>
>>138344

okay this has to be a falseflagging liberal

1. Trump doesnt have proof Obama ordered a wiretap on him. He said he did and then never presented it when the investigatory commision asked for it.

2. Both the FBI and the CIA have presented evidence to Congress on Russian involvement on the election, and although there is no proof Trump was involved, there is some evidence he might have been. For example, his campaign manager (Manafort) accepted significant amounts of money from the Russian government for undisclosed services, Flynn lied under oath about having never met any Russian officials during the campaign, etc etc. The investigation is still ongoing. (unlike the Obama wiretap one which concluded that no, Obama had not ordered a wiretap on Trump).

Try posting some. If you're wondering whyy news articles speculating on anonymous sources and unverified guess work isn't valid evidence in a criminal investigation, try a few night classes at your local law school.

>pdfs arenb't real!

Clearly outlined, concrete examples of criminality, and specific examples and goals of collusion that aren't from anonymous or unverified officials or rampant yellow journalism would be a start. But that clearly doesn't exist, or it wouldn't have taken 9+ months for any of that to be made public.

I hope you will read this comment made by Sartre about Anti-Semites many years ago and realize how it applies in this context:

"The anti-Semite has chosen hate because hate is a faith; at the outset he has chosen to devaluate words and reasons. How entirely at ease he feels as a result. How futile and frivolous discussions about the rights of the Jew appear to him. He has pleased himself on other ground from the beginning. If out of courtesy he consents for a moment to defend his point of view, he lends himself but does not give himself. He tries simply to project his intuitive certainty onto the plane of discourse. I mentioned awhile back some remarks by anti-Semites, all of them absurd: "I hate Jews because they make servants insubordinate, because a Jewish furrier robbed me, etc." Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past. It is not that they are afraid of being convinced. They fear only to appear ridiculous or to prejudice by their embarrassment their hope of winning over some third person to their side."
>>
>>138656
If you're attempting to help him by likening me to an anti-Semite, you might want to first check to be sure that I am not, in fact, Semitic.

Let's completely isolate ourselves from russian interference or collusion arguements.

Trump's one reason for firing the FBI director was to restore faith in the FBI for mishandling HIllary's private email server investigation.

Democrat voters were the ones who lost the most faith in the FBI for what Comey's public statements speaking to that prior to the election and that Comey failed to apply a consistent standard by making public that members of Trump's staff were being investigated for collusion with Russians before the last general election.

Whatever faith they had left in the FBI to be an unbiased investigatory body has now been severely diminished by Trump firing Comey right after he requested more resources for the Russia investigation and since now Trump is going to be the one selecting the next FBI director managing the investigation.

Trump himself praised Comey for making public the email investigation a week before the last general election.

The net effect of Trump firing the FBI director at the cusp of their investigation into Trump's campaign is public confidence in the FBI and Trump is going to be rock bottom, and opinion polls are unsurprisingly showing exactly that.

And it completely contradicts EVERYTHING Trump has said to praise Comey for his work into Hillary's investigation.

All conservatives can do now is demand that people not take the president at his word because he lies a lot but we should have faith that he's acting in our interest. This is ridiculous, it's precisely Watergate but worse because now collusion with a foreign government is implicated.

James Comey was becoming a very dangerous fellow. He was relishing the power he had usurped and the attention he was getting by repeatedly engaging in publicity stunts that was very unbecoming of his office. It is better he is gone and we will soon get an honest and straight-forward chap to replace him. Reince Priebus has been out of focus lately and he would be an excellent choice for the position. But really, why did Trump think it was a good idea to fire the guy who was investigating the hottest election in years for possible tampering? Does he not realize that this makes it seem like he's trying to hide something? Why not wait until the investigation is concluded?
>>
>>138963
He doesn't consider it to be a real accusation in the first place. He's staying with the 'fake news' defense.

>Moderate length post directed towards liberals about how awful it makes him feel to communicate with liberals

Do you not remember last November, when Trump was praising the hell out of Comey and last December and January when Trump kept snuggling up to Comey? Regardless, we have evidence that Trump clearly saw the FBI director in a negative light because he would not investigate the wiretapping claims (there is no evidence to support these claims, other than that they turned up some files that came up while the FBI was chasing Russians(and that time we have proof of Russian meddling)).

Regardless, the move makes Trump either doing a 180, or being guilty of something worth firing Comey for

Trump doesnt actually believe the fake news line he spews. He watches fox and other networks his whole life. The fake news line is a form of thought control, he urges his supporters to be selective over what news they believe, that which is favorable to trump, to believe, and vice versa. 1d chess is all you need for those idiots.

Unconfirmed.

>Senator: "Can you confirm that that request [funding request for Russia probe] was, in fact, made?"
>McCabe: "I can not confirm that request was made. As you know, when we need resources, we make those requests here. So, I'm not aware of that request and it's not consistent with my understanding of how we request additional resources. That said, we don't typically request resources for an individual case. And, as I mentioned, I strongly believe that the Russia investigation is adequately resourced."

So... he publicly fired comey in the most embarrassing possible way he could while knowing that comey could link him to russia and possibly get him impeached and then crossed his fingers hoping that comey wouldn't retaliate? Yeah... sounds logical. It's like people are playing partisan politics not using simple math. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proofs. There has been ZERO PROOFS.

>Clint Watts, Foreign Policy Research Institute fellow and senior fellow at the Center for Cyber and Homeland Security at George Washington University, and Andrew Weisburd reported for The Daily Beast in August 2016 that Russian propaganda fabricated articles were popularized by social media.[38] The authors wrote that disinformation spread from government-controlled outlets, RT and Sputnik to pro-Russian accounts on Twitter.[38] Citing research by Adrian Chen, they compared Russian tactics during the 2016 U.S. election to Soviet Union Cold War strategies.[38] They referenced the 1992 United States Information Agency report to the U.S. Congress, which warned about Russian propaganda called active measures.[38] They wrote active measures were made easier with social media.[38] Institute of International Relations Prague senior fellow and scholar on Russian intelligence, Mark Galeotti, agreed the Kremlin operations were a form of active measures.[39] The Guardian wrote in November 2016 the most strident Internet promoters of Trump were paid Russian propagandists, estimating several thousand trolls involved.[40]
You're one of them.

What is the Russian obsession with "proofs?" I don't mean the concept of asking for more evidence, but just word. It's grammatically incorrect. One does not ask for "proofs" unless they are a mathematician; they ask for proof, singular.

Yet I see this syntax of "Where is proofs, friend" or "show me the evidences, my brother" all over /int/, krautchan, /pol/, and /news/. There's even a meme involving crudely drawn chickens apparently associated with it.

>But regardless of [the] recommendation, I was going to fire Comey. Knowing there was no good time to do it!

>And in fact when I decided to just do it I said to myself, I said, “You know, this Russia thing with Trump and Russia is a made-up story, it’s an excuse by the Democrats for having lost an election that they should’ve won.”

He has now literally admitted, on camera, that he fired Comey because of the investigation into Russian ties to the Trump campaign.
>>
>>139092
>inb4 there's still no proof

Regardless of any guilt of collusion with the Russians, how is firing someone because they are investigating executive corruption not questionable? Come Cletus, state your case
>>
>>138991

The medical reason he gave would have restricted him from playing the sports he was playing at the time (lacrosse amongst them)

Insofar as serving: I didn't have to face going to war during my coming of age (between Gulf Wars) and declined joining but had spoken to recruiters. I would have had a non-combat role. The vast majority of my family members/ancestors have served in every conflict since the Revolutionary War. We no longer have any active service members at this time as my cousin lost his life disarming an IED in Afghanistan 5 years ago (USMC EOD). No one old/young enough to serve in the family at this time.

You probably don't give a shit in general, but to a Gold Star family member, Trump is blatantly full of shit and has no honor to me. And it is patently obvious you chose not to read the articles.

I bid you good day.

No I asked because I can't personally fathom why someone likes a flip-flopping, ineloquent, emotional, "businessman" and reality TV star who's policies so far have been exactly in the opposite of what people would want beyond immigration even then he can't deliver has literally next to no support beyond people patting him on the head so they can get rid of stuff they've been trying to do for at least 6 years. A man who's only stake so far has been to brag about how untouchable he is

So yeah I'm genuinely asking why someone would support him, why someone would logically support him and don't give me that "Well, he's better than Clinton!" garbage. They are both irredeemable pieces of trash and the fact that they even got as far as they did is a sign that America is fucked if people let this happen

>Got us out of TTP/TTIP
>H1B reforms have begun
>ICE has been unleashed
>NAFTA set to be renegotiated or abandoned based on those negotiations
Rule of thumb has been to give him about a month after he says/does something outlandish to see what happens. He is pretty predictable once you get his pattern down and if you pirate art of the deal you could read the manual he uses, step by step, and watch it unfold along the way. Most of the flip flopping has been either planned for something (giving up on healthcare for a bit and then forcing the issue) or just being part of running the government for the first time. Unlike being a CEO he is going to have to play ball to get the things he wants out of government. I know most Trunp supporters were too blinded by the zeal he had but it was to be expected. The 4 I listed (with the exception of nafta but a compromise will do) are the meat of what I voted for him on. The ME shit, tax breaks, healthcare reform etc were all things I can certainly hope for but its naive to believe these things can be fixed by a president alone.

>>
>>139145

I 100% do to be honestm

Its only anecdotal, but every Trump supporter I know IRL is a "high energy" cheerleader-type guy and almost all of the interviews Ive seen done with Trump supporters show the same.

And in polls and stuff it always seems like most of his supporters do have that stupid blind 'godemperor' style adoration of him that i despise
>>
>>139145
Most of his supporters I run into online seem to be the alt-right types, or older people like my grandparents who pass around low quality conspiracy chain emails. In RL, most of the guys I know who voted for him cited Clinton as the main reason, just like many liberals voted for Clinton because of Trump. If somebody else had been running against them, they would have likely sat it out in protest.

>>
>>139199
Why are republicans stuck in a October 2016 Time Warp? It's like they keep trying to pretend like we don't now know that Comey was also investigating Russian collusion in the 2016 elections. Is it just denial that the investigations are real or it is that you honestly have nothing else to defend Trump's position with but 6 month old attacks on Hillary?
>>
>>139199
>. He did good damage to her election and they don't like it.
they didn't asked him to be fired for it though.
>>

>>
>>139201

Because they totally didn't just decide to side with him after he "claimed" to have dirt on Trump, right. They wanted him out until he was fired. Comey isn't credible, and neither are their claims because of bias. They don't even need comey to probe anything. This entire fiasco is just backlash.
>>

>>
>>139203
I sat through watching an episode of Sean Hannity's show last night and 90% of it was dedicated to the question of "Should the Hillary email investigation be reopened?" with more than one guest going down the full election season list off laws she and Obama supposedly broke, in soundbite form for maximum indoctrination and retention by Hannity's loyal viewers so they can parrot it back in everyday conversation all that much easier. No mention of Trump's flip-flops about Comey or anything actually happening in the news. He just called it "fake news" and went on to talk about Hillary even more just minutes after that. The campaign truly never ended for these people after the election.

Conservatives just call it "America First" because they cannot into sequential logic. That's why our priorities are fucked and our country is going to shit. We don't want to adopt homeless children to parents of the wrong religion or who fuck the wrong way. Contraceptives are bad but if conception occurs the rape victim needs to let the clump of cells develop into a baby even if the mother won't care for it. We prefer economic growth to mitigating serious risk of planetary catastrophe. Science is a conspiracy. Expert opinion in general is a conspiracy. Gut the NIH but create more menial labor jobs. Why are we against authoritarians and neo nazis? It turns out they're on our side! If you shoot up a church we stay quiet but turn over a dumpster and it's fascism. FEMA camps are real but journalists make fake news. After a banking crisis, what we need is less regulation to prevent the next. Sell all our personal information to the highest bidder. Sell our health to the highest bidder. Sell everything; that's freedom. The gays and the immigrants are why I have a difficult life, not

Conservatives wear their brain backward. Everything good is bad, everything hateful and destructive is America 1st. Not wanting to actively harm the prospects of our society's future generations makes one a cuck.
