Whether you want to admit it or not, members like sehun and jin add something to their groups, mainly visuals. Having good looking or stand-out members usually helps a group and certainly doesn't hurt it
Members like suho and xiumin, who are sub-vocals, are important for exactly that reason, they give a more full sound to exos overall chorus and makes sure that the lead vocals are constantly carrying the group. Members like Kai and Lay are important because having talented dancers get peoples attention. A member is never completely useless, some members add variety, some may just add a good personality type to the group and act as a stan-attractor. You really cant go wrong with a wide variety of members in a group, it just gives more options for people to chose from and you have a better chance of having someone who suits a fans type.
