The point of these threads is to encourage people to look for new and interesting music. We do this by listening to and ideally discussing albums we've never heard before. Many of us already listen to new music daily, these people are in it to venture "out of their comfort zone" by listening to albums they otherwise wouldn't have, or just to have a good time.

LCD Soundsystem - American Dream (2017)
>dance-punk, new wave

As unlkely as this may sound, Murphy and co. really do adopt a new sound here. This is much darker and moodier than anything they've done before, the late-night come down after the parties of their three previous albums. There are only a few real bangers here, the rest of the tracks experiment with slower tempos and heavier emphases on build-ups. As a result, the simpler, dancier tracks seem really half-assed and lame, while the more deliberate tracks are awesome. "American Dream" and it's fuzzy synth, "How Do You Sleep?"'s incredible climax, it's all really good stuff. A pleasant surprise, even if it's not that great.

2.5+

Bo Diddley - Bo Diddley Is a Gunslinger (1960)
>rhythm & blues, rock & roll

Loses a bit of the blood and sinew that Have Guitar, Will Travel has in spades, still a fun release in and of itself. The country western influence really doesn't work that well, but the rock & roll is still incredible, Diddley's guitar work is characteristically excellent and his songwriting chops are great. I really, really love this man.

3.0+

Lavender Country - Lavender Country (1973)
>country

Oftentimes succumbs to the novetly, mostly pretty solid. "Cryin' These Cocksucking Tears" is really, truly a great song, and there's a shocking amount of depth and emotion here beyond simply being "that one gay country album". Problem is, a lot of the songs aren't that great, they play into standard country sounds way too often and regularly sound thin and unorganic. Still really cool for the time period, and a couple tracks definitely still hold up today.

Beck - Mutations (1998)
>folk rock, alternative rock

A perfect balance between weird outsider Beck and sensitive, folky Beck. Keeps the sonic experimentation of the former and the great songwriting of the latter without falling into the traps that hurt Beck's other albums. Despite the differences in songwriting styles, there's a consistent vision here, and nothing ever gets irritating. "Nobody's Fault but My Own" is psychedelic folk; "Tropicalia", bossa nova; "Canceled Check" is country; and "Static" is a noise rock jam. Every style here works wonderfully together. Some of the goofiness from his earlier works is still retained, and his songwriting isn't quite at the Sea Change level. Besides that, this might be my new favorite Beck.

3.0-

ABRA - Princess (2016)
>alternative R&B, synthpop

Solid production all the way through, takes '80s aesthetic and breathes new life into them my injecting trap influences. Can't say the same about the generic vocals and the derivative songwriting, though. Most songs sound the same, and the songs that sound unique to the EP sound like thousands of other artists. It does what it wants to do well, and what it wants to do isn't that impressive.

Shackleton - Fabric 55 (2010)
>UK bass, dubstep

Creepy and foreboding mix that cements Shackleton as one of the best producers around. Occasionally too cerebral for its own good, losing focus of the great danceable aspects, this is mostly quite wonderful. The bass is the best part, it rattles you to the bone everytime it kicks in, and Shackleton has a much wider sonic pallette than most other producers in this style. Great stuff.

2000th rating obligatory review:

>CHVRCHES - The Bones of What We Believe
>Synthpop
I can't deny it-- the pastiche synthwave of Doherty and Cook, I can't help but like. Somehow, with their "retro" production and Mayberry's vocals, this album managed to spawn SEVEN singles, constructing pop hooks left and right more than colleagues like Purity Ring or The Naked and Famous.

My first impression of this album came from the lead single, in which I remember thinking of Mayberry's vocals as grotesquely childlike and plain. It's probably that reason that this group easily gained a mainstream following: departing from the audacious figureheads of pop, this group was a breath of fresh air for casual listeners. I'm sure Mayberry's voice is also a reason they've managed to develop the nasty fanbase well-known on this board.

So, the first seven singles:

The Mother We Share drills in its hook from the beginning, as it delivers a sort of sorrowful but exchange between confidants. We Sink is clearly about a failing relationship, its chorus repeated a tad too much, though the bubbling synths coming in at the bridge do give the impression of drowning at sea. Gun seems to be the followup promising vengeance, though nothing sticks out from it. Tether seems like it'd be a grower, but it's really the weakest track, like some mediocre M83 outtake. Lies suffers from the same problem, even with its rawer sound, and Recover is just ok.

And then there's the oddball, Under the Tide, because CHVRCHES had to esablish that they were a "band", and not "Lauren the pop star". The album version of this song is kinda ok, but the Single version gives Doharty's accent the room it needs. It's a simple and subdued track, with a sizable amount of sounds to enjoy: starting at the second verse, there's the sound of what could be a CRT flicking on and off that I fixated myself on.
>>
>>74953151

On the other side of the album:

Heavier songs fill the B-Side, comparable to TR/ST in a sense because of a greater presence of Doharty's backing vocals. Night Sky's name couldn't be more appropriate with its cavernous chorus, and Science/Visions is the tensest song on the album. Lungs' liberal usage of empty space makes it clear why it wasn't used as one of the album's singles; By the Throat... is the second-worst track. The melancholy tones of Doharty makes You Caught the Light a solid closer, like watching ceiling lights slowly swing-- Mayberry's voice is barely audible beneath the layers.

At the time, CHVRCHES successfully fit in with the miniature 80's pop revival. The cleanliness of their production and multiple hits proved to be successful, and the band shouldn't be faulted for their fans alone on this album. It's a shame that they ditch the darker sounds from this album on Every Open Eye, which was mostly bothersome.

Minimal in length, minimal in sound, yet rich in feeling, the proportions of this EP make it feel like an album's worth of experience packed into an unhurried 16 minutes. At its centre are the spartan organ and synth riffs that swing pendulum-like back and forth like clocks lined up on a wall - whether fast ('She Leaves Me All Alone') or slow ('On the Beach at Fontana'), they all move in the same, hypnotic trajectory. It's difficult not to enjoy the seeming naivety of the French-accented English lines, especially as delivered by the female lead, but this isn't a cover for weak songs. On the contrary, it's the stalking, menacing instrumental 'On the Beach' that might be the singular track here. Recommended.

Phantasies was an interesting album for sure. It shifted between either slightly interested electronic collage-like pieces and some really nice lo fi rock. I really appreciated the Lo-fi parts because they reminded me of Duster, and boy do I love myself some duster. Overall, just a fun psych-like album that made me feel warm

>Moodymann - Long Hot Sex Nights / The Dancer
Long Hot Sex Nights is one of those long jammy deep house tracks. I'm not the biggest fan of them because they can become a bit boring, but he pulls it off fine. The Dancer is a lot more upbeat and fun, great melodies but I don't like the electric bass that sometimes shows up.

he decided to just go with mainstream reggaeton style. sad! but he delivers a decent track or two and always keeps up his positive image even as he tries to sound badass, which he can usually pull off kind of sometimes maybe.

i wasn't able to go see his documentary today (3 weeks later it's somehow still in theaters, gives me hope for the puertorrican kino scene monopolized by one cinema company that has let very little productions from the past decades make it to the big screen essentially killing films. IIRC, the government has been trying to flourish the scene by imposing restrictions on them [don't know if it has happened yet or will happen] and donating money to a lot of new film festivals in the island) but by the time the hurricane is done with the island it'll probably be off of theaters or there won't be any surviving theaters.

now out of all of this, what is actually worth listening to? probably none, depends on your taste. if you like your reggaeton to have reggae like the name implies, heavy sampling, and just being fun, old school is for you. try the Playero 37 dj mix.
if you're into gangsta rap and sampling of other PR genres, the 2000s boom is where it's at. tego calderon is also great if you like 2pac
if you like young thug and other mainstream trappers (not including the memetrap goth xxxtentacion whatevers), you'll be at home with the current scene.

Jed Speare - Sound Works 1982-1987 (2008)
>musique concrète, electroacoustic

Monumentous, enveloping works that don't entirely justify their incredibly long lengths. That's about the only major complaint I have here, though. Speare's soundworks are more akin to full movies than musical pieces, they create evocative worlds of desolation through their usage of pretty much everything that can create sound under the sun. Herein lies this album's other great strength—its inventiveness. It's unlike a lot of musique concrète I've heard before, much more akin to ambient than anything else, and it's still wholly unique in the boundaries of that genre as well. A great listen.

>Nina Kraviz - Fabric 91
A real nice solid mix. There's 41 tracks on here and the mix is 75 mins, with some lasting being mixed out within a minute long. Because of this some tracks don't add much to the mix at all but it does keep things varied and prevents the mix from stagnating at any points. The mixing is on point for the most part and the track selection is solid too, a lot of them coming from Kraviz' label Trip which is one of my favourites, it's natural that I's like this mix anyway. Also it closes with an AFX track which only helps it.

>Black Devil - Disco Club
About as consistent as a disco album gets but it's not without its gimmicks. The flow of this album is great and I absolutely love the synths on here, the space disco style is incredible when its done right and it definitely is here. The vocals are what let this album down though. They just add absolutely nothing here, I'd much prefer if they left it as an instrumental album because that's where this album really shines.

>Yanka Dyagileva - Styd i sram
Amazing album, and very brief. It takes just a little over half an hour split in seven tracks to explore a lot of sounds in such a beautiful way. And you know, I love finding that in an album, there's no weak moments or filler here, although I didn't understand a word you can feel how sincere the music is. Some tracks have a great noise rock droning in the background while the main melody is being led by an acoustic guitar that from time to time throws some psychedelic vibes, like how awesome is that.

Everything Everything - Get to Heaven (2015)
>art pop, progressive pop

This is absolutely genius in its weirder, more rhythmic sections. It taps into a Talking Heads-type sound that's not really in a lot of pop music these days, it's organically funky and really odd from a rhythmic and songwriting perspective. The problem is it stays away from this sound a decent amount, preferring instead to stay in a comfort zone of some pretty typical indie pop. This stuff isn't bad, just horribly generic and totally below what this band is capable of, with some pretty awful vocals to boot.

2.0+

Dr. John - Dr. John's Gumbo (1972)
>new orleans R&B

Calmer and a bit better than the passionate, voodoo-tinged Gris-Gris, but lacking in that album's fire and brimstone mentality. It's a very obvious tribute to the figures that influenced Dr. John (such as Professor Longhair, who's also on this chart), and it's good at serving that purpose. The tracks here really emulate that classic new orleans R&B/zydeco sound incredibly well without crossing over into pastiche territory, and John's vocals are rock-solid as always. It's main issue is that it never goes beyond being a tribute, John lacks a real artistic voice here and the quality suffers because of that.

Judee Sill - Heart Food (1973)
>singer/songwriter, chamber folk

I'd wager that this is a pretty solid step-up from her s/t. Her songwriting has gotten better, as have her vocals, and she's able to incorporate gospel and country into her sound in a much more fluid, less choppy manner. I really love her vocals here, and the odd production on her vocals, they sound really distant yet so perfectly in tune with the music. One thing that hasn't changed from her s/t is the incredibly overblown arrangements, which rear their ugly head on nearly every track here. It's less prominent than it was before, but it still takes a lot away from the subtlety of her songwriting and her vocals. "The Kiss" is heart-stoppingly beautiful, though. Just gotta throw that out.

I'm glad I haven't bought many in a while and have just been able to listen to the ones I've got but goddamn I'm seriously thinking about just selling it all. People say keeping them is a good investment but I'm not so sure. Vinyl "resurgence" is kind of a myth (see pic) so I don't see these doing anything but collecting dust and losing value every time I play them or move.

I doubt it would rival even 1988 sales though. Most of what I've seen is that most people buying records are Lana Del Rey and Kendrick Lamar fans who own a crosley. Not knocking them or those artists but I don't see them as much else but trend-followers in that regard.

houses here are built like bomb shelters so i'll be fine, casualties are always low and tend to be due to accidents while prepping
ive lived through five of these already, my real worry is this is the worst possible time for it to happen. island has gone bankrupt, water and power systems have been on stilts and will get really fucked over, etc.

the recovery iswhat will be bad. aid organizations are strained because of texas, this thing is going to eat up the other three islands as well, and since its very likely hitting the east coast the USA would be top priority over a bunch of caribbean islands.

I have a deep-seated doubt about listening to CHVRCHES that's at the bottom of my stomach for some reason

>Hellier Ulysses - Prime Example
>Indie Avant Prog
Exactly what you'd expect from the genre name: lo-fi production and jerky time signatures. And of course I'll liked the MIDIs of Weapon Is. Just wasn't enough to sink in.

5/10

>King Geedorah - Take Me To Your Leader
>Abstract/East Coast Hip Hop
When it comes to Hip Hop, I'm always listening into production first. Lazy familiar sounds, loops that would never stand on their own. It mostly works, (Fazers, Krazy World, Next Levels, I Wonder) and sometimes it doesn't (Fastlane, ), the reliance on older music + drums always tends to make a good "beat". It's a good thing there's so many great features and verses that come with the big lineup, and even the collagic tracks are enjoyable. It's no concept album, but it's well-rounded and original.

7/10

>Eluvium - Lambent Material
>Ambient
Under The Water It Glowed was gorgeous, and then Zerthis Was A Shivering Human Image is a 9/10. Don't care for the other tracks, there's a bit of blandness in some of Eluvium's releases that I can't quite place but don't dig. Maybe it comes off as too much like stock music.

it's too early to say, but it proves that reggaeton has officially returned into the mainstream. it's not particularly liked by anyone, but it proves that there is a market outside of latin america for it, and hopefully this doesn't end up being a fluke and we get another wave of better stuff crossing over to the states and europe.

my only worry is there hasn't been any other reggaeton hit yet, the closest thing right now is J Balvin's Toda Mi Gente, which topped the streaming charts a while back but only got to #21 in the hot 100. :(

I'm gonna try start giving some reviews ay, but only for ones I really like or really hate

The Magnetic Fields - 50 Song Memoir
Holy shit why is everyone sleeping on this it's excellent. Where do I even start. So everyone is going to compare this to 69 Love Songs, which is fair, it's the only other really analogous example, but in my opinion this album is better than that one, and has less duds on it. As a project this is incredibly ambitious, it goes without saying, each song is dedicated to a year in Merritt's life. That each song is catchy and fun to listen to is incredible. Favorite tracks: Fathers in the Sky, Cat Named Dionysus, Lover's Lies, Why I Am Not a Teenager.

Ariel Pink - Dedicated to Bobby Jameson
The melodies here are just so fucking good. Everyone likes to state that this is "hypnagogic" as if that actually means something, to me what he seems to be doing is just goth pop. Sure, the sound is washed out like a decaying VHS, and the nostalgia is part of the appeal, but for me it isn't the whole of it. What I like is his ability for arrangement, some of the songs here are really complex.

What next

Just finished Twin Peaks' Return. Though I was much more disappointed than most people seem to have been I'm glad I stuck with it. Definitely not worth unless you're a huge Lynch/TP fan.

It's about 70% filler or just worthless-feeling and needlessly slow but I'm glad it came back in one form or another.

Boredoms - Vision Creation Newsun
>psychidelic rock, noise rock, krautrock

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA THE DRUMS ON THIS ALBUM ARE SO FUCKING GOOD.

I’ve actually heard this thing before, a very long time ago when I first started going on /mu/, discovered Boris and Lightning Bolt, and decided I was going to be into Noise Rock and Japanese music. I didn’t notice how HARD it goes in the first few songs though. (circle), (star), and (heart) might sound like the soundtrack to creating a new universe, but at their cores they’re structured a lot like your standard krautrock jams, with steady pounding ostinato rhythms complementarily building alongside a slew of spacey, swirly, noisy sounds. It sounds simple, but you really have to hear it to believe how much of a machine Yoshimi is on the kit. (star), probably my favourite track on here, is basically a double-time motorik beat for 5 minutes straight, building in intensity so much that it even causes the entire track to short-circuit for a bit near the end.

The end of this album serves as a bit of a cooldown, (omega) and Zutto trading motorik for bongos and the frantic climaxes for swirly psychidelic noise and carefree guitar strumming. They didn’t excite me the same way that the earlier songs did, but I can see the purpose that they serve in the tracklist and they do have some good textures to them.

Overall, shit dude this thing is a banger. I wish I’d relistened to this earlier, it’s totally up my alley.

Гpaждaнcкaя oбopoнa - Здopoвo и вeчнo (1989)
>noise rock, post-punk

I'm liking this a decent bit more than Pyccкoe пoлe экcпepимeнтoв. It has the same grimy, industrial aesthetic as its successor, but here it's utilized to its fullest potential, making an album that's downtrodden, oppressive, and apocalyptic. The punkier tracks are the weakest tracks here. Not bad just less exciting and more generic, the band is capable of so much more than that. I should dig more into Letov.

3.0+

Massive Attack - Ritual Spirit (2016)
>trip hop

Trip hop is a genre that very obviously stagnated around the '90s, so it's cool to see a release that's so recent actually succeed. It's absolutely no different from anything Massive Attack has done before, and I'm not particularly huge on their sound, but it's still solid, and I kinda like it a bit more than Blue Lines. Still lacks the experimentation of Mezzanine, which is a bit of a killer. Still, it's well-done, very pleasant and incredibly evocative of the images of urban streets that this band is so good at conveying.

ZZ Top - Tres Hombres (1973)
>blues rock, southern rock

This is honestly a lot better than it has any right to be. I have a general predisposition against this style, though, and ZZ Top isn't exactly bringing anything new to the table. The best aspect of this is the grooviness, there's a big boogie rock element and it pervades pretty much every track. I've always loved the relative oddity of "La Grange", and the first three tracks are all real solid as well. Nothing else is that good here, though, it's a bit of a let down.

>>
>>74983546
Heard it all, seem 'em live. They're great

I enjoy all their albums a lot, but Sound of Silver is probably the most well-rounded

The first album/comp is definitely a mixed bag, but Murphy was still edgy then, so that has some of my favorite LCD tracks (Movement, Never as Tired as When I'm Waking Up, Thrills, Losing My Edge, Yr City's a Sucker). Tons of noise rock and post-punk influences there, while later albums are increasingly dance music-influenced

So I guess the discography is worth it? Still haven't listened to the new album

>P-Model - Perspective
>Zolo, New Wave, Post Punk

I thought this was great, not just because Susumu Hirasawa (who I already love for Kyuusai no Gihou) does vocals AND synths, or the huge drums and wonky melodies, it's the fact that it handily crosses three genres in 32 succinct minutes. It's repetitive, as most punk albums are, but funky f r e s h.

7+/10

>Sorryman & torrent my pets - It is So Incredibly Complicated
>Ambient, Vaporwave

30 tracks totalling in at 1 hour, it is so incredibly easy to get lost in. Soothing field recordings and piano, country-side vaporwave, and foreboding drones are provided with simple titles to set the scene on small shots of a town. Forget Elysia Crampton, this is what you could call a collection of "auditory gifs", even if the mixing seems to peek at points.

Favorite moments: trains, brain death, e46, let's go to town baby, a burning man, without one, It's Complicated; It's Over

7/10

>Kreng - L'autopsie phenomenale de Dieu
>Dark Ambient Concrete
Though the smoke to the left on the cover looks like a malformed face, this album is more than a one-dimensional expression. Tinseltown treads lightly on the beaten footpaths, Kolossus or Meisje in Auto use well-chosen voice clips to evoke scenes of dread or despair. It seems to evolve more from noir into abstract settings, which is where some of my favorite tracks show up (Mythobarbital, The Black Balloon). It's a whole different world from the previous album, but with the same variety and exploration that I love from ambient albums.

This chart is just as bad as I thought it'd be.

>Dinosaur Feathers - Fantasy Memorial
The title track has nice percussion. Everything else is meh.
2.5

>Kettel - Smiling Little Cow
There are moments that sound particularly warm and organic for IDM, and the whole album has a kind of playfulness to it, but most of the time I just feel like something’s missing. I might have to revisit it in the future.
3.0

>An Angle - We Can Breathe Under Alcohol
Wow, people absolutely hate this album. The hate is justified though, since it really is a blatant Bright Eyes rip-off. I’m Wide Awake It’s Morning came out a full 4 months before We Can Breathe Under Alcohol, and even though I don’t really like that album, it’s a hell of a lot more engaging and has a much stronger emotional impact.
2.5

>Sunlight Ascending - All The Memories, All At Once
Seems like pretty average third wave post-rock, though I haven’t listened to enough of that to be sure. At the very least there’re less crescendos than I expected, as some of the songs have a more downtempo structure that’s not trying to build up into anything.
3.0

>Cats and Cats and Cats / This Town Needs Guns Split
Cats: Awful vocals with delivery that sounds like a musical. I hate that shit. Also their last track on the split is over 9 minutes long despite going nowhere. 2.0
TTNG: I probably like this more than Animals. Overall it sounds a lot more down-to-earth; the instrumentation isn’t as technical, and the vocals sound a little rawer and more sincere. Hell, the closer even has distorted riffs at the end. 3.5-
2.5+

>Sea Wolf - Leaves In The River
I initially omitted this album from the chart because there were already too many indie rock/folk albums, and I saw 30 Seconds To Mars in the related artists on their RYM profile. I kind of wish I didn’t put it back.

Emeralds - Does It Look Like I'm Here? (2010)
>progressive electronic, ambient

Sounds just like any classic Tangerine Dream albums or an '80s horror film soundtrack, yet it's not that derivative. It's underwhelming at points, sure, mainly when it gets away from the spacier atmospheres that it does so well, but god, it does this spacy sound so well. This is an album that makes me want to write a rambling review that uses the word "drifting" in it, but I don't have the finesse to pull that off, so I'll just say that I really enjoyed this.

3.0

Μίkης Θεοδωράkης - Ηλέkτρα (Electre) (1979)
>film soundtrack, avant-folk

Maybe this functions better as a sountrack, because as a standalone listen it's pretty underwhelming. It's brutally minimalistic, large periods of silence are punctuated with some electronic music or vaguely folky tunes. The main problem is that the periods of silence don't add to the album, they just take away from the really good parts of it. Θεοδωράkης has some incredible ideas here, but they're not pushed to the forefront, lingering in the background before they really get any chance to shine. I like this, even though the potential outweighs the actual execution.

2.5

Pere Ubu - Terminal Tower: An Archival Collection (1985)
>post-punk, art punk

I'm now definitely with the opinion that Pere Ubu's best work came before their first album. They started off with the artsiness of The Modern Dance and Dub Housing, yet their early work gets a leg up due to it's badass proto-punk attitude, it's sheer inventiveness, and its heavy utilization of krautrock-based rhythms. The first three tracks are among the best punk songs ever written, and they are without a doubt my three favorite songs by the band. The rest can't really stack up, though, falling deeper and deeper into inpenetrability until the mostly underwhelming final track concludes an otherwise fantastic compilation.

Zero Boys - Vicious Circle (1982)
>hardcore punk, punk rock

Your standard hardcore album, really. The guitarist is absolutely incredible, his work and the weird, somewhat experimental production that accompanies it elevates this a /bit/ beyond standard, generic territory, but it can't save the whole album. The vocals are bog-standard, the song structures have been done to death. At least it's fun.

Today I listened to a brief solo piano recording by Jens Lekman from his website. It's only 3 songs, and it's titled Christmas in San Francisco 2005. The cover art is a sea lion basking. Jens doesn't even sing on it, but it is super lovely, and reminds me of the latter half of Sufjan Stevens' Michigan, which is always a great thing to be reminded of.
Now I'm listening to a live show recording from Gothenburg, where Jens played the same set I saw back in February.
I really enjoy being a Jens Lekman fan, it's so rewarding.

Rustie - EVENIFUDONTBELIEVE (2015)
>purple sound, wonky

Rustie's been running with the same shtick for awhile now, and he definitely isn't improving that much here. He does some school stuff on the ambient side of things, and that's about it. He functions really well in banger mode, like on "Attak", but that side of him is sadly lost here, replaced by predictable tracks with no real innovation or dynamics.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Yeah Yeah Yeahs (2001)
>indie rock, garage rock revival, garage punk

Solid debut weighed down by some truly terrible production. No instrument has weight to it, the guitar and drums both sound paper thin. Karen O's vocals are typically great though, and the guitar occasionally has it's moments, like on the fantastic "Miles Away". Can't say much else good about this, though.

2.0+

The Strokes - Room on Fire (2003)
>indie rock, garage rock revival

Not a horrid step down from Is This It, it just lingers in the same kind of bland garage rock as its predecessor. I've always really liked Casablancas as a vocalist, and he flexes his scratchy, raw, prowess to wonderful effect on this album's first two tracks, and the propelling instrumentals match him perfectly. After "Reptilia" it takes a detour into much less interesting territory, limp synth punk and turgid ballads abound.

Didn't expect you to like it, which sucks. I'd say this album is a huge step up from Glass Swords, and a fantastic statement of his own sound after the mess of features and lack of heart on Green Language; Rustie made the cover art himself, and "features" himself. It's not as PC Music as Glass Swords, and it's not exactly happy hardcore in that it's fast to the point of choking. As Philip Sherburne put it, the lo-fi quality of this album is almost punk, in that it ignores the typical club-friendly notions for wonky.

Stuff like the tinniness of the cymbals (that may as well be pitched-up drums), the blown out kick drums, what sounds like a recording of a recording of drums in Big Catzz, and Rustie's guitar in the opener and closer I won't argue about how predictable the tracks are, cus this album's a favorite mostly for its short hooky tracks, sugary atmosphere, and my favoritism for solo albums from producers.

And it's best played really loud ofc
