Question - About 10 days ago I had the shop put put on my La Bella Deep Talking Flats (.45 gauge) in place of the stock factory rounds of the same gauge. I've sighted down the neck and noticed there is an upward bow (i.e. lowest point is the 12th fret). I generally don't like high action on my guitars, but understand there needs to be compromise when having low action and no open string fret buzz. Basically, is this supposed to happen? I don't mind the action now but I'd rather not work harder than needed to get clean notes. Should I take the bass back in and have them re-adjust it?

SGs and 335s are the only worthwhile guitars they've ever made. Les Pauls are archaic slabs, Explorers and Vs are poorly designed and have been outdone by other makers, and Firebirds are just never offered in a practical iteration. Double cutaways/LP jrs are decent, but at that point just get an SG.

Hello fine people of /gg/, im looking to buy decent home studio monitors but i'm in a country which has some weird import restriction, for that reason the price of some products may be heavily distorted (some items may cost twice as much as they normaly do), for that reason im looking for as many speakers of comparable role as the
JBL LSR305 to see which one may be decently priced.(home studio around 50-70w mid to close range as flat as possible)

So far the only option i got is the Yamaha HS5. Could you recommend others?

Thanks in advance
>>
>>74835023
Why? Consider this: I'm struggling with playing anything faster than 95 bpm 16th notes because it's really hard for me to pick all the notes accurately using alternate picking. Edge picking changes your sound, but if you would like to play some 140+bpm (or even more, up to 200bpm) licks then I don't think it is a good idea to stick with parallel alternative picking, it would slow you down. At this point, there is no point to "express" yourself because no one is going to notice it IMHO.

When I've tried pickslanting I've suddenly realized I could do much more than 95 bpm 16th notes if I just practice it for a bit. What was stopping me is the need to move the pick across the strings consistently. I can pretty much do 150bpm@16th on a single string. But when it comes to changing strings I end up stuck occasionally between the strings, even at slower speeds like 70 bpm, etc. My experience playing guitar is about 6 years at this point. I'm not practicing every day, however, I did when I've only started. Troubles with speed picking were kind of frustrating so I've spent less time on the guitar every year because I really wanted to play fast and beautiful solos and couldn't achieve that in a reasonable time. With pickslanting, I think I could give it a second try!

However, I do agree that if you play something easy (under 90bpm@16th) there is a way to improve your style/phrasing using different pick angles that allow you to introduce different sounds when you pick the strings. Definitely, you shouldn't stick to the only way of picking the strings. That is not the point of the Troy Grady's series. It just gives you another view on the right-hand motions when you feel like something is slowing you down and you couldn't understand what it is honestly.

how do i learn to detect chords by ear when listening to songs ?
>>
>>74837819
try playing different chords while lstening to the song. Is it simple music? Use basic triads. Does it sounds minor or major? figuring that out will help the process. I say try playing triads you know to the dong to see if chords match, this is a laborious and tedious process but it will make your ear better. A way to make this easier is to learn fundamental theory about chords and keys. learn where the notes are. Chords and progressions will come a lot easier when you understand keys, if you dont.

so the distance on a string to get to each octave is half of the string you haven't covered yet

if an A string is 4 feet long, you'll get an A at 2 feet, then 3 feet, then 3.5 feet, then 3.75 feet, etc

so this means different notes are at smaller intervals on the string the higher the pitch is

anything more in depth would be "blah blah i didn't pay attention in my intro physics class"

I don't think you have to slant it that much that you'd have to touch the string with the edge of your hand. I think the ideal angle is something like 45 degrees, probably less. The point is that most alternative picking (AP) schools say that you have to hold your pick parallel or a little bit angled to the strings and if you need to change strings then you have to use string hopping — completely different motion compared to the string picking. But string hopping with "standard" AP is really hard to speed up — so when you try to play really fast you would get to the point that you have to slant your picking hand in a way string hopping becomes much more easy to perform. That's how pickslanting become a thing I guess.

Do you mean three note arpeggios of triads? You can shred anyways, economy is directional, you can go economy or alternate or rest picking. Refer to Django for rest picking.
I say economy is directional because I believe that is what you're getting at with the term. I may be wrong. But economy picking has you picking in correlation with location of string and pick, if the string is above your pick, you start the picking of that string with an upstroke, if below, with a down. Rest picking is starting with a down on every string change. You know what alternate picking is, if not don't economy pick. Each will have its own tone and should be implemented depending on phrasing.

If you can't google it, don't ask here. Alternatively: get a regular looper and make your own progressions
Or get a usb interface and use a DAW to do the exact same thing only more precisely and cleanly
Or teach your idiot younger brother how to do power chords
Beyond that idk how to help you, you could always make a baby and raise it to be an amazing rhythm guitarist, but by the time it actually gets old enough to sound good you'll be old and too exhausted and lame to be a cool lead guitarist anymore.
Have fun!

I make a distinction between Economy Picking and Directional Picking.

Directional Pickings says if you are moving to a thinner string from a thicker string, you use a downstroke always. If you are moving from a thinner string to a thicker string, you use an upstroke always.

Economy Picking is essentially the same, but with fingerings that are worked out to keep the pick moving in the direction of the line.

I suck at describing it I guess.

no that's all in his hands. Its the way he lets notes decay and that constant subtle vibrato. he sounds the same on any guitar
>>

look at his left hand, he lets notes in chords ring out clearly and mutes as little as possible. The vibrato he does on entire chords by shaking the neck a bit. It's a cool sound but I wouldn't want to copy it since you'll just end up sounding like you're ripping him off
>>
>>74846055
and the bass?

oppa gangam styel

>magnets farther away from the strings the pull they exert is lower, which doesn't affect sustain as much.
Guitarist broscience is almost worse than the shit you hear at gyms.

Why not just get a Strat if that's what you really want?
>>
that feel when you want to improvise but you're too lazy to learn how to improvise so you just noodle over the first pentatonic scale
>>
>>74840174

Used Vox AC4.

how to increase my fretting reach with thumb over the neck
>>
>>74846808

Why do you assume I wanted a Strat? Three pickups is hardly the most defining difference between Strats and Teles.

it has a neck profile from like the 30's, and the Seymour p90s give this real terrible buzz on every one ive played

desu the hollow bodies they make are subpar, the solid bodies are alright I guess, nothing special though

>>74843182
Mine has JT as the denomination for its serial number so its japanese, but im assuming you have guitar center where you live go play a gretsch electromatic. I think you'll be pleasently suprised
>>

I dont know why you feel the need to be so agressive m8 I can post the serial number if you want from my understanding JT at th beginning of gretsch's means it was made in the japan terada factory

The humbucker coil splits and acts as a single coil also I got that sweet duo sonic on top
>>
>>74847927
This. HSS best setup. Being able to split the bridge humbucker would be ideal. I don't have that unfortunately.
>>
>>74847966
