should I listen to psub? is their discog worth

Serious question: why don't shoegaze albums sound like this anymore?
>>74721739
Is there a pastebin with the latest releases friends?
How do we get Whirr to reunite bros? I have an idea that's probably super autistic but hear me out.
So the only way this plan can work is if Nicky B. still has an incredibly large ego, which I distinctly remember him having during the Whirr years. So basically the plan is, one of us starts a band that has enough similarity to Whirr that they can be compared, but different enough that it's its own thing.
Then that band cuts an album or two, starts doing the music scene hustle and tries to book shows, etc. Then during an interview (which is bound to happen at some point) the interviewer will probably ask "where do you guys get your inspiration from?"
So the frontman or whatever starts saying how they wanted to out-Whirr Whirr, that Nothing sucks dick, and Whirr isn't nearly as good as they are. Then maybe say something like "Hear that Bassett? You and Whirr are a bunch of talentless hacks!"
The interview is bound to make its rounds in the shoegaze circle because it's basically a bunch of nobodies goading one of the biggest shoegaze bands that had ever existed. Bassett will be really pissed most likely and be like "oh yeah kid? You think you're better than Whirr? I'm gonna get the band back together so we can put you in your place!"
I don't know what's supposed to happen after that. I'm high. This plan is probably stupid but I think it can work.
>>74740175
That's the dumbest idea I've ever heard anon go to bed
Anyone wanna help me make a new entry-level shoegaze chart? I feel that the old charts, while good, are lacking in something. What I mean is I got much more enjoyment out of asking anons in random shugazi threads for recs than the charts. Idk.
Thoughts of KoD?
Any similar bands you guys can rec?
>>74741038
What do you guys think?
>>74741614
i'd add a row with something from psub, whirr, and ceres & calypso. i think those three are pretty big and would balance out the rest of the 90s stuff?
>>74741038
>>74741614
we need a "i cant into Loveless wat do" flowchart
make it something like
>too noisy i cant hear anything
listen to Painful
>wtf they're mumbling i need to hear what theyre saying
listen to Souvlaki
>all songs sound the same?
listen to Swirlies
>not catchy enough
listen to Isn't Anything
>>74741693
Better?
>>74741845
I fully approve. Interested to hear others opinions.
>>74741829
>can't into Loveless
Listen to it again and again until it clicks
>>74741982
I already like Loveless, I'm just saying for those people who want to get into shoegaze but can't into Loveless
Why is this album never talked about?
>>74742017
I thought Loveless not "clicking" was just /mu/ shitposting?

>>74742477
We obviously listen to very different nugaze but Curve is in there.
>>74742318
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKDba2mKp7o
>>74742477
I would keep it 1 per artist so skip Slowdive s/t. Maybe include T-JC and Salons but idk if they should be in an intro chart. I would also include The Verve EP.
I can't comment on nu-gaze because I haven't listened to much, but I don't think there should be more nu-gaze than the original scene. Add Eureka and maybe Deathconsciousness or some other blackgaze.
>>74741829
kinda like this one?
>>74722708
yep
>>74743041
i have a couple more
>>74743071
Less nugaze, better?
>>74743118
I say don't put any nugaze whatsoever.
Maybe add some japgaze.
>>74742393
Ehh idk about this, it's spacey sure but I feel like they were really lazy with the ambient sounds and there's not much particularly unique or dynamic about it.
>>74743538
I was going for an essentials chart that covers 90s, 00s and 10s.
If I start adding J-gaze and blackgaze then it's gonna be huge.
>>74743538
i disagree, add more nugaze. it's not a shoegaze is not a stagnant or finished genre and there's plenty of recent material that's exemplary for the sound
>>74743701
you're trying to recreate this
>>74743628
fair enough. imo the monotony of it is it's uniqueness. i'll just keep throwing shit at you
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVCwtteXDu0
>>74742618
Kinda cool but I feel like it needs another layer of sound to make a wall. I think I'm just burnt out on shoegaze right now though.
>>74743701
japgaze, blackgaze and noisegaze are essential to the shoegaze newcomer, as >>74741829 said, all these variations of the genre can help if you don't dig the classic shoegaze sound
>>74724656
God-tier

Thoughts on this? It has been one of my favourite releases of this year. It's dense, wall of sound shoegaze that I think /shugazi/ would appreciate.

>>74743718
Along these lines I'd kinda like to see a chart that's ONLY albums which don't sound anything like the stereotypical shoegaze styles but still clearly fall within the genre. There's so much that can be done with it, something to shine more of a spotlight on the possibilities would be nice.
>>74745858
yeah something like a genre fusion chart would be cool
>>74743781
It wasn't quite as similar to Stargazer as I had hoped but it was really good. Nice rec.

Bardo Pond is a good example. Not all of their songs use shoegazing, but they do heavily rely on noise to create their special brand of droney psych rock.
see >>74723187 >>74724428
There's also Windy & Carl and Jefre Cantu-Ledesma for ambient/drone and Seefeel for ambient techno.
ASDIG, Rollerskate Skinny, Swirlies, Quickspace, and The Boo Radleys all use shoegaze for their colorful neo-psych purposes.

Posting Sarry here, because I think it fits under ethereal wave and also I don't know where else to post it.
Has Liz Fraser-esque opera vocals over drone that builds in complexity over 22 minutes.
