The violin California Girls arrangement sounds cool. Thanks, yeah I'd agree. Appreciate the tip
>>74517037
Wonderful song.
>>74517531
You think? I know he used a black p-bass w/ black guard for a large part of the brian is back era
>>74517859
woah, definitely interested. Amazing
>>74517952
No clue. Are you talking about Endless Summer Quarterly?
>>74518022
So Tough is a great album. underrated. Sweet Insanity is incredible. Better than BW 88 imo, even with the Landy lyrics
>>74518232
Mike gets a lot of flack but he's an important member of the group and has contributed a lot of great stuff. I don't think he's a terrible guy overall.
>>74521739
I like that pic. I read in an interview somewhere where the interviewer was interviewing Mike and his wife recently and they were eating quinoa burgers (he's been vegetarian since the late 60s, i believe) and it made me want to try making some burgers myself - they were pretty good

A wonderful track. Much better than Add Some Music, should have been the single
makes i wanna cry

Bruce has such a wonderful voice (even if some of his songs are overly dramatic)
Love this:

>>74534740
My least favorite of the 70s BBs releases desu
allegedly this is from the first time carl sang god only knows in concert live
>>74534740
I think Do It Again and All I want to Do are kinda lame but every other song is a banger
>ywn be as comfy as Brian is in I went to sleep
Anything similar to the stripped down sound of Smiley Smile?
>People think "Student Demonstration Time" is a worse song than "Life of a Tree"
Shouting_Mike_Love.jpg
>>74535492
i really enjoy 'surfs up' and 'look' off of the smile sessions, but you've probably already heard em
>>74535562
I have! The smile sessions definitely has some more stripped down moments. I love listening to those and some of the demos to hear the songs as they were written, more or less.
>>74535516
I like both of those songs, but I prefer Life of a Tree because I think it fits more in the scope of the album.
what else sounds a lot like the beach boys? starting with an obvious one

Sad that this was never released. The extended mix is the best
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzDNcwSxkFk
I love this. What a voice Carl had.
I'm sorry but Mike's lyrics to good vibrations are sooo much better then Tony Asher's. It's not even close.
>>74534740
Underrated, no bad songs on that album, time to get alone shows that brian still had it post-smile
>>74538761
This confuses me
Post your rare Mikes everybody
Oh, look!
It's THIS thread again!
>>74543519
Well what did you expect?
>>74542381
Is Asher's version the one with "she's already working on my brain" or something like that?
>>74535104
Is this the influence for The Dude buying milk via cheque?>>74535128
>>74545256
yeah. usually his lyrics were pretty good on most Pet sounds stuff, but Mike btfo'd him
How old were you when you realised Holland was their best since PS?
>>74545269
I don't know how that happened desu, I guess he would've worked out some better lyrics if given more time, or if Love's lyrics didn't turn out good.
Also why didn't Asher contribute to any more songs? I love his style of lyrics in Pet Sounds, they're sincere, heartfelt and also very direct.
>>74545347
I think that was mostly Brian. He told asher what he wanted each song to be about, Asher just picked the words.
>illmatic is a better album than pet sounds
my sides
>>74545831
Jesus Christ.
>>74545789
Yeah, probably, but I like the way that he picked words. I love things like having a chorus that's literally "sometimes I feel very sad", no wordplay, no irony, no words wasted, just straight to the point of Brian's feelings. They aren't cliche lyrics, too, as some of their earlier and most of their later material would be.
Some of my favorite lines:
>I just wasn't made for these times
>Love is here, tomorrow it's gone
>I try hard to be more what you want me to be
>but I can't help how I act when you're not here with me
>I try hard to be strong, but sometimes I fail myself
So simple and relatable.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=fKZr4ePkXlk
Amazing to see how far this one went
>>74545897
yeah that's true. I love the first couplet in Wouldn't it be nice
>Wouldn't it be nice if we were older, then we wouldnt have to wait so long
>and wouldn't it be nice to live together, in the kind of world where we belong
and that part in I just wasn't made for these times where they layer the lyrics
>Sometimes I feel very sad
>Ain't found the right thing, I can put my heart and soul into
>People I know don't wanna be where I'm at
And really the best thing about the album isn't the production or the melodies or harmonies on their own, it's the amazing ability Brian had to tie the music to the meaning of the lyrics. The chord changes on every song support the meaning of the lyrics so perfectly
>>74537511
those beginning harmonies are haunting
I found Heroes and Villains 7" for £2 yesterday
Pretty happy lads

This is one of my favorite Beach Boys songs. I actually had a dream about it last night despite not having heard it for years.
>>74538330
Lmao, I doubt he's the one that manages his twitter account though
>>74533456
wow, it literally is just a Beach Boys version of Be My Baby.
