Want to teach myself bass but I'm just wondering if Hal Leonard Bass Method is fine for acoustic bass. I can't afford an electric bass right now so I'm using my dad's old bass he used to play. Probably a really dumb question but I'm a beginner with limited instrument knowledge so I need all the help I can get.

Reason I'm asking of course is because Hal Leonard Bass Method is self described as for anyone learning electric bass.

So I bought a bass today for 80. I can tell it is some model of Jazz bass that had the neck replaced at some point in its lifetime. I think it is probably a Squire or a Fender. It has a Fender neck plate but I believe that may be an add-on.

Does anyone know how to differentiate a Squire from a Fender Jazz bass?

Including merch, 1000 on a goodnight, 150-200 on a bad one, about 500 average. That's the total for the band, not per person. It all goes back into expenses. It could be a bit lucrative if we could play a couple shows a week, but we can only play 1 or 2 a month without wearing out the local fan base.

/mu/ help.
Just recieved this guitar as a present, It's an Ibanez AEG 10II. I'm very pleased with it and all but the only thing is that I find it to be a little small. Not so small that I can't play it (I'm kinda small myself) but I'm just worried i recieved a children's guitar lmao. That's not the case, right? Are there any cons of having a smaller guitar except for the lesser amount of base?
My father who is a great experienced guitar player really liked it so it can't be that bad, right?

Guitars made specifically for kids have much shorter scale lengths, I looked it up and that one's 25.5", normal length. Some acoustics just have smaller bodies than others. Plus it's acoustic-electric so it doesn't really need to be big, loud and boomy when unplugged

Would the guitar be considered to be a small size guitar? It's just that the one I was practicing on before was a bit larger so this new one just feels like it's small (even tho it's nicer to play in a lot of ways since it's easier for me to reach)

Well late, but do you mean acoustic bass guitar?
If so, Hal Leonard is fine.

If you mean double bass, get a double bass tutor book.

The are some similarities, but the technique is almost completely different.
>>
>>74403799
Takes a perfect design and makes everything just a little bit off so nothing works aesthetically.

Probably plays beautifully, though.

And if you're playing it, you're not looking at it.
>>
>>74403921
But then people listen with their eyes and subconsciously they'll know something's slightly off. So yeah, just uncanny valley your shit up senpai.

Recently bought my first pedal (a simple loop pedal) and haven't used it yet because it didn't come with a cable to plug it in. I'm buying a cable now but I have some questions so I don't do it wrong:

1. What's the exact difference between a patch cable and an instrument cable?
2. Which one of the above do you need between pedal output and amplifier input?
3. Which amplifier input are you supposed to plug the pedal output cable into? The same place where I would plug in the guitar (INPUT -> L/MONO)?

thanks

>hundreds of recordings just sitting on phone
>no plans for sharing recordings or developing them into anything
>recently almost get into serious accident
>realization that if I suddenly die all my songs and ideas will die with me
>makes me feel very sad and anxious

So I'm thinking about just uploading a bunch of the recordings publicly online somewhere. I don't want to market it or participate in online social activities or even edit the recordings to make them more presentable, I just want to put them out there in the universe before I die desu. Youtubes probably the best place for this right?

ive been using .10s on my strat for the last 6 months because someone told me theres not much tension difference but a lot of tone difference, so i tried them out

also practice the technique itself, just picking a string fast, without a metronome, so you get able to do it and get some control
then you start trying to get it on time
sometimes you also can just pick it fast regardless of time

Any late learners here? I'm 28 and have been playing acoustic for just over two months. I'm at about stage eight level on Justin Guitar beginner course but I am not following it strictly, I tend to play songs either from the Little Black Bob Dylan Songbook and I have written five of my own songs. I can't be fucked using a metronome but for easier chords I can usually change quite comfortably at 120bpm.

Is my progress fast? It feels it but maybe I am blowing my own trumpet too much. I don't play any other instruments.

Good afternoon, lads.

What do you think of my axe? It's a 2005 ESP Eclipse in Vintage Black. I swapped out the EMGs for a pair of Seymour Duncan Phat Cats (humbucker sized p90s).

Thinking about changing the knobs around, too.

I bought this thing close to ten years ago now and my tastes have changed significantly but I still find it really comfy to play.

Next guitar will either be a Tele or a proper Les Paul.

Do you guys leave your pedal power supply plugged in all the time? I am decorating a new desk and want to have my power supply on it (I use it as a studio and like to have pedals on my desk). However, I figured that leaving the power supply plugged in (and turned on, I have pic related and it doesn't have an on/off switch) might damage it. Many of you use permanent boards at homr and I was wondering if you unplug it every time after use. Plugging and unplugging everytime doesn't take a lot of effort, but it's still slightly annoying and it makes my cables look messier.
>>
>>74429736
Buy a variety pack that has one of those in it. Different picks can have an influence on your playing... Materials and thicknesses (even sizes). It doesn't seem to me that you have tried enough to buy a whole bag of one kind but I could be wrong.
>>
Does anyone else find a lot of guitar playing annoying? Especially if someone's noodling around high up on the neck; the sounds will be unpleasant and grate on my ears.

Maybe I need to get my ears checked out or something. I get a similar sensation when dinner plates clang together.
>>
>>74430033

I leave my setup plugged in all the time but I have it going into a power bar with an 'off' switch and I turn that off when I'm done. Something like that might be up your alley.

I'm with you on preferring to leave things plugged in and arranged a certain way, but I also don't like the idea of having something powered on 24/7.

I use two power plug adapter thingies and I have them and both of my amps on a power strip which I turn on when I start playing and turn off over night.

ultex is the best material by what ive read on gg, its even more stiff and longlasting than tortex, sounds brighter and more defined, has a sharp tip for more attack noise
i will also buy a pack of nylflex mediums (copies of old Hercoflex)

I bought a 2000$ instrument 6 months into playing, I didn't regret it at all.

i own a LP custom just like that, saved up 7 years, i wasn't ready for it until that point, i would wait a little longer than 5 anon. Also people who suck at playing but have nice guitars are the lowest of the low in the guitar world

I think the issue with me is justifying it. I have the Epiphone version of this exact guitar and a MIM Jazzmaster, soon to buy a MIM Strat and Telecaster. Which guitar did you upgrade from and which did you buy?

I agree with that. John Fogerty and Paul Banks drew my attention to this particular model forever ago and I've been set on this being the expensive guitar I'd buy. I bought the Epiphone copy of it and it's fucking awesome as well.

Any Radiohead songs you guys would recommend learning? Already learned:

>Creep
>Fake Plastic Trees
>Airbag
>How To Disappear Completely
>Optimistic
>Motion Picture Soundtrack

Tried learning There There and House of Cards but they were too hard

It's actually a bass. But I owned a Yamaha TRBX 174, my first bass, and played some zero sum games by buying and selling some used stuff. In the end I bought a Sandberg Classic Special, "boutique" bass with 2 humbuckers.

If you already have the Epiphone version then what's the point in getting the Gibson? Just put the pickups from the Gibson into your Epiphone, maybe install some better hardware, and it'll sound the same.

If you're a new player with more money than sense it's very easy to fall prey to gear acquiring syndrome and waste money on a bunch of guitars you don't really need.

Oh shit, nice.

I was actually considering doing exactly that and installing the vintage tuning machines.

Enjoy having only 21 frets.

how do i learn to play that rhythm? 3/4 with the drums playing 4/4
>>
>>74430579
Yeah, it was actually a semi-custom order as well. Anyway, before I found the Sandberg I wanted to buy an Ibanez SR505, I'm pretty happy now that I bought the Sandberg since I'm pretty sure I would have bought it later anyway and that would have left me with a midrange Ibanez bass that was now obsolete.

I'm the worst person to ask. Just listen and work on it. Drown out the drums.
Really wish I could help you, anon. :(
