Is it worth it to spend the time/money/effort to build my own guitar instead of just buying one used for the same price?

It seems like a lot of fun and a good way to save money but I also don't really know what I would do with it outside of just basically building a generic Fender, and at that point I might as well just buy a Squier and strip the paint off/put in new pickups and save myself some money.

What could I add/change by building my own guitar that would differentiate it from a regular Jazzmaster?

Would it be a good idea to get a 100watt 115 combo amp with a line out, and later buy a 210 cab if i needed more volume?

Is there any non obvious problems like phasing that would make it an issue?

You could cut the headstock in a retarded way.
>>
>>73599452
building guitars is a hobby, it's not about saving money. the time it takes to build a guitar from scratch kind of negates the whole saving money aspect.

a good middle ground is just buying parts and putting them together, maybe learning how to do fretwork, electronic stuff, how to cut nut slots, etc, smaller stuff like that rather than learning how to carve and shape guitar bodies and necks from scratch. it's a lot of work

>>73599710
Yeah, I mean I put together a bass from a kit a while back and the experience itself was definitely fun and worth doing again just for that I think. I just figured as long as I have the ability to put together a guitar with literally anything I want in it what can I think about adding that doesn't make it just a Fender with a different color. Right now I don't have any ideas for it and it seems like a waste of potential.

I know a local shop that builds custom guitars and puts preamps in theirs, that might be interesting to explore.

How do you guys stay motivated to keep writing?

I realized I'm like halfway to going back to school in the fall and I haven't come up with shit. Last summer I wanted to have something finished before I started university and I just kept pushing it back.

I love playing and writing and I want to have something worth listening to and playing live more than anything but I keep letting it fall off like everything else I attempt. I don't want to just talk about it without doing anything for fucking ever

humbuckers that can be switched into single coils with a switch. like on the HH jazzmaster. i have one and i think its really awesome.

i would really really like to get a guitar kit some day... if nothing else i think you should build your own just for the experience. if i could i would do a semi-hollow telecaster. or at least i think i can remember seeing a semi hollow telecaster kit somewhere.

but yeah dude build your own. come back and show us results.

Thanks. The guitar is my old Schecter with Chinese active Duncans. It's on the neck pickup with the tone rolled back. It's recorded DI - the rhythm is some basic Guitar Rig stock setting, the lead has some compression, EQ, reverb, a tiny bit of gain from a Sansamp plugin, and very slight vibrato (more for the slight tone difference than the effect)

trash, worthless vermin, the lowest of the low, in my opinion
they are not "artists", they are nothing
music for indie cafes
music created by "art students" and people studying music degrees
these people chose music as a career move just how some choose marketing manager
speaking of which, they'd all be working in marketing had it not been for the internet
and the internet giving them a sense of false hope
implanting the idea that they can be cool too,
into their small pea sized minds
they have nothing to say
they have nothing to bring
they don't have a seat at the table

i hate these type of cunts with a passion so strong it burns its way up into my throat, leaving me no choice but to spit, even if indoors

Anyone familiar with Railhammer Cleancut pickups? Can't find a ton of info about them online.
There's a guitar on CL that's selling for about the same price as a used one of the same model but with these switched out for both pickups. I know pickups generally don't add a lot to the resale value of the instrument but it still seems a little too good to be true considering that's like a $200 upgrade.
All the reviews/descriptions I've read of them describe them as "twangy" which I'm not sure I like but based on the one video I could find they don't sound half bad
>>
>>73612790
record and post here
>>
>>73612880
What is tone?
Explain it to me. I might be tone deaf.
My ears are fucked anyway. One of my ears hears music in a lower pitch to the other, so my instrument sounds out of tune in one ear, at all times. Or even listening to music, one ear hears it slightly lower pitch, making it sound out of tune and almost dissonant. Permanent damage, I'll likely go deaf within my lifetime or so I've been told.

And I can't record now, but I will at some point and ask again. I think I'm just fucked...

First thing is learn your scales and positions on the fretboard, then start improvising to simple backing tracks to get a good foundation of melody and phrasing. And I'm not an expert on jazz, but I can help you a bit with that sound. For rhythm playing, use extended chords and other chords you don't see as often (diminished, augmented, minor/major, etc). The goal is to build a progression based on a scale, but it has "out" notes here and there. For example in the clyp, it's all based on G# Minor. Mostly it just changes with a sharp 7 and flat 2. The chords are:

4 6 4 4 4 6 (G#m9)
0 2 2 0 2 2 (Em6add9)
x 4 2 4 4 0 (C#m9)
x 6 5 6 7 7 (D#+7#9)

4 6 4 4 4 9 (G#m11)
0 2 4 0 4 6 (EmM#11)
x 4 6 8 0 0 (C#m9)
0 0 6 6 4 4 (AM#11/E)
>>

Ban evasion tactic 1?
>Step 1: check your IP on Google (keep the window open)
>Step 2: unplug your router for a few minutes (sometime around 5 will usually be enough)

I got one of those in my guitar bridge position. Sounds great. It does have some twang, but it can do other sounds it just depends on the style you play. Using the guitar's volume helps. I usually have it at 5 and it's a clean tone. Roll it to 10 and it gets dirty, but not muddy where you don't hear the notes.
Hope this helps a bit.
