Djent is cool and enjoyable
>>
>>73522156
I guess, I still don't understand how "November Rain" 's became so widely acclaimed, when it's one of the most boring solos I have ever heard.

I have another unpopular opinion. Blues is boring and repetitive. It is only good in small bits, sprinkled in small bits.
>>
>>73522276
what is good guitar music for you?
>>
>>73522251
Wouldn't that be a popular opinion? Given the amount of Periphery fans in the world. My problem with Djent is the lack of "riffs". Djent guitarists are more bassists than guitarists. They only use one string for their "complex rhythms" completely neglecting the other strings.

Laugh all you want, but I enjoy progressive rock/metal a lot. I like odd time signatures, complex guitar riffs, and solos. Don't get me wrong, I do like to listening to some bluesy leads, and rhythms in my music. However, listening to a whole twelve bar blues is kind of agonizing, dont you agree?

Well it's definitely unpopular here, know your audience and all that. And the rest of that's not really true. What you're thinking of is the simplified new wave of metalcore and deathcore that took influence from and masquerades as djent/prog
>>
>>73522389
i love stuff like jeff beck and weather report. but frank zappa uses fusion to rape his music, and so many other artists like Guthrie goven

Last time I posted this people tried arguing it's not djent, but it is. Or just look at Periphery's old stuff, they're all over the fretboard with a lot more than just open chugs
>>
>>73522443
Don't know man, I like weird, melodies. Lots of Jazz fusion guitarists try to emulate other instruments with their guitars. Like playing sax lines on guitars. That kind of fluid way of phrasing. I understand why you wouldn't like it, but listening to it kind of a trip, if you may say. It's impressive the way they use chromaticism/tension on their music.

Not gonna lie, they sound pretty good. However, their "djent" is pretty minimum. Maybe that's why I like them. This is more along the lines with Ne Obliviscaris, and if Obscura ditched their bassist, vocalist, and focused more on guitar lines. I agree, you will find gems like these guys in an oversaturated genre, however, my point still stands, 90% of "Djent" bands play the same shit trying to sound like a dollar store version of Periphery.

1980's bass chorus pedal cannot be replicated in anything I've tried. My sound is purely that and the two delays + the odd reverb fuckery. This is just what I play with.

I do the actual experimentation with shit in software and I change around my pedalboard to suit whatever I'm playing at that time

I do have an old johnson j station multi effects that's godlike that I've kept around for stuff like that too though

Tonewood in guitar affects your tone much less than the pick you are using and you're strings
*being stoned*
>>
>>73522323
that is kinda not true there is plenty of djent out there that focuses on complex rhytms and high note riffing often as bridges from one chord into another one (this is what periphery does a lot especially mark)

Actually to me it feels like there is more djent out there that focuses on those high note riffs then actual DJ-0-0-0-NT bands

I am not the greatest musician but this worked out for me

I watched a lot of videos on youtube like
>how to write like polyphia
>how to write like *insert band*
>how to write a *genre* song

Your first step should be to know what kind of song you want to make and what genre it approximately is so you know how the song is built.

Then listen to a lot of bands that you respect and look at how the build-up of their songs is.

>What are they doing to sound like how they sound?
Periphery (whether you are into that kind of music or not) is a great example

They got a lot of videos on youtube where they explain exactly how they come up with certain riffs and what sort of "rules" they write their riffs with.

One of the most important things is to realize that a song doesn't mean guitar riff only.
You will have bass/guitar/vocals/drum/etc. you gotta learn to think of those things aswell when writing riffs.

When you got your guitar in your hands and want to write THINK OF WHAT YOU WANT TO PLAY!

Don't just randomly hit notes but rather think of a melody - you can start with lead/rhytm or whatever you want to - starting with drums is also a good trick to some people which i personally don't prefer.

Keep thinking of how your song should sound like and then try to play EXACTLY your thoughts on guitar.

This will teach you a lot and after a couple songs that entire longpost will be a standard thing for you to do when you grab your guitar

i hope i could help you a bit.
This is how i slowly got into songwriting

Pro musicians are bound by contracts to talk about "muh tonewood". If they say it's bullshit then literally the whole thing collapses. They need to sell signature guitars. They need to trick you into thinking about tonewood "matters".

You just stack your fingers in order going from the lowest string to the highest

Or you could play a simplified version of it that doesn't rely on open notes:
|------
|--2--
|--2--
|--2--
|------
|--2--

You can finger it with your middle finger on the bottom and ring finger barring the top three, but generally I prefer doing it the same way as the one with the open notes
>>
>>73529739
idk if my fingers are just too fat but i can't stack them without having the open strings hit against them when they swing

learn about song structure first.
secondly, think about your song mood. is it gonna be sad? happy? laid back? this is how you know what scale/mod you gonna use.

before even beginning to write the intro to your song you need to think of the chorus. don't base your chorus on the intro or the key.
just hum your song based your key/scale. if you picked a happy scale like lydian then you can most certainly start to play it on a virtual piano or something before laying it out on a guitar.

once you have your melody down, then you can write intro, outro and bridges. when you have your chord progression/melody you can insert licks in between (most notably sweet home Alabama, little bird use added licks with the core rhythem).
once you have your inrto, rhythm and progression, licks and you can finally do the outro.

now this is NOT set in stone, i bet there are people who can do it way better and more professionally than this. but this is sort of how i would write a song.

happy songs usually have a resolution in minor and they are also very forward and not laid back. if you look at songs like "the thrill is gone" you can see that its sort of a laid back song and the tempo is very mellow. but songs like stay by me are very upbeat and both start and end with a G chord for what i call a "happy chord"

I guess I didn't express myself right. Didn't you notice the instrument going out of tune? If your ears weren't rotten you would have noticed. As I said before, that guitar sounds 90% just like any strat with the same pick ups. Keep getting ripped off by companies by believing on the myth known as tonewood though. They need retards like you to fill their wallets.
>>
>>73530822
it is not
>>
>>73530999
Mate, the material has nothing to do with intonation. I'm not even defending tonewood. Intonation is structural, a carbon fiber guitar will intonate just like a wooden one.
>>
>>73530999
>hyuk hyuk tonewood isnt real!

spanish is much like portuguese so yeah you're right
>>
>>73531107
You are legit retarded aren't you? I left the 10 percent out because no guitar sounds the same another. Also, there's other subtle variables to tone other pick ups you absolute mouth breather. Like picking attack, and other nuances on your playing.

So if no guitar sounds the same, even one with exactly the same components made by a machine, how do you explain that? Assuming the same player, of course.

>>
>>73531220
They're crack like plywood.

>>73531220
Because uhhh... ummm they spend more money to make you spend more money so they can make more money lol! Makes a lot of sense. Theres a big conspiracy thats been going on for hundreds of years! Here are the things you need to consider if you want to achieve the sound you want:

>Your guitar type
>The action in your guitar
>The type of strings you are using
>Your pickups
>Your pick (or lack of a pick if you use fingers)
>Your amp type
>Your cabinet type
>Your EQ
>Your effects (including reverb)
>Your mic technique
>Various production techniques (such as double tracking)

Am i forgetting something?

Btw here is another thing most guitarists don't think about:

Where you are playing on the strings has a very significant effect on your sound. playing closer to the bridge will give you a more mellow, rounder sound. playing closer to the bridge will give you a more twangy sound with more high-end

I thought so too man.
Did you look at the 214(C)E or 114(C)E? I'm really not sure if the 214 is worth the extra €200~

Thanks for you input, I really appreciate it.

the 114 is walnaught back and sides
the 214 is rosewood back and sides.

historically speaking rosewood back and sides is the ultimate wood to have in the back. but that's for the tonewood debate. i don't know if Walnut is even a good tonewood because its only used to veneer les paul's top's
200$ for almost all rosewood guitar? worth it.

Alright, thank you! I'll try to get my hands on a GS Mini-E Koa and a 214(C)E so I can try them. Might have to just order both and send one back.

gotta correct myself.
they have a spruce top and koa back and sides.
and they also have spruce top rosewood back and sides.
all of those tonewoods are very expensive but you should try all of the 200 series variations

Just e-mailed a local shop asking if they could get them in store so I can try them.
I'm looking at a 214E DLX as well. Which seems really nice for right around €1000
