Ayyy! I finally took the time to make a proper top 50 thing in order.
There can be only one

unironically this
>>73517123
Exactly how many layers of irony are you using when you post Machine Synthesis at the top of your chat?
>>73517213
None. Yeah the text-to-speech vocals are dense as hell, but you can't minimize Hecker's amazing knack for sound design. Also the subject matter is interesting and the vocals can be haunting at times.
Listen to Sun Pandemonium.
>>73517111
i support you anon
>>73517194
this but unironically
>>73517191
And it's exceptionally post-rock
>>73517123
Hey, I saw your chart in another AOTYSF thread! Good to see it's still shit and hasn't improved even a little bit.

they were popular on this board before p4k even reviewed the album. just because you don't like an album doesn't mean other people don't.

>>73518864
Just sampling it a bit, it sounds like this could actually be pretty good. Thanks for sharing, even if it actually is your own album!
I've enjoyed this probably more than anything so far this year.

Downloaded it, half of the title names are too long for them to be put in the folder lmao.
>>73518602
this and rocket are my faves so far this year, but admittedly ive only been listening to new indie releases
>>73518849
I'm not talking about the new album.
Also, the new album is for plebs.
or a crow looked at me

Hasn't been that great of a year so far imo, but I'm digging this a lot.
>>73517191
Oh shit, didn't know Pretend dropped something this year. I liked whatever they put out around 2009, would def check this out.
It's just too much fun to deny
>>73518324
Montie
I haven't been here in a while but I remember this guy.
I just don't remember whether it was good or bad.
Is this the guy who sucks or the guy who's kinda cool?
Nana Grizol - Ursa Minor
Xiu Xiu - Forget
Wild Pink - Wild Pink
Free Throw - Bear Your Mind
Brokhampton - Saturation
Got to listen to the new Kevin Morby and Fleet Foxes more. Shouts out to that Palm EP as well.
I'm catching up to this year's releases
What are some essential listens?
>>73521119
What kind of music do you like?
This is a good start
https://rateyourmusic.com/charts/top/album/2017
>>73514100
Yeah that one OP. Nothing that comes out for the rest of the year is touching it.
DAMN was pretty good but Crack-Up is a legit masterpiece. It's the kind of album you wait 5 years for (or in this case, 6).

>>73521215
Harry Styles is liquid garbage. If that's in your top5, you've only heard 5 albums this year.
>>73521270
>Harry Styles
>liquid garbage
Well, that's just your opinion, m8.
>>73521364
Well, alright. Have a nice day I guess.
Lorde - Melodrama
Lana Del Rey - Lust For Life
Paramore - After Laughter
Nobody posted this yet?
Disappointed, found it on bandcamp randomly monthd ago, posted here but you fags keep circlejerking to whatever fantano listens instead of something else.

I strongly agree that it should still count though. My earliest album is Lypura on December 15th
>>73520431
>Kevin Morby
2/5
The new Woods is better which isn't saying much but 2/5 is still a passable score. Caught In My Eye is a Germs cover.
>>73522403
I just downloaded this because that cover art turned me on
>>73522591
2017 is the year of elephants. we should get an elephant-core chart

>>73514100
no question
>>73518324
This. Needs more love. Or doesnt, because i want to be special
>>73523496
good choices anon
i actually think this album went above critics' heads. it's much less pop than their other efforts and the songs are more complex. there's so much ideas and things to admire. i've been listening it to it all week and i still haven't become familiar to it. haven't had an album do this to me in a long long time. + it sounds absolutely magnificent when high
I've been enjoying this album quite a bit
its like parquet courts but better
>>73518328
ya got a link, anon?
>>73517060
That Bastien Keb album is so good
Pic related is my current AOTYSF. If we're allowed to include albums that came out in late 2016, I would also put Yussuf Kamaal - Black Focus and Yellow Days - Harmless Melodies near the top.
>>73518749
need to listen to this Laurel Halo more, I'd skipped the leak, I could see it growing on me even more after some more listening.
so what's all new today? Bérangère Maximin - Frozen Refrains is one I had no idea about until I saw it listed for sale, but I guess that's out. Really love her previous stuff, this one should be interesting for the droney ambient electroacoustic type of people.
>>73527388
So far Ex Eye featuring Colin Stetson is the big one for me today.
>>73527410
Oh cool I thought that was coming out later still. Looks like they got it streaming now https://exeyeband.bandcamp.com
I like people's taste in here :)
>>73527448
Did you like his other one this year? I'm having a head to head now. I'm thinking 3/5 for Glory and 4/5 for Ex Eye
>>73527471
still haven't listened to that one, a whole bunch of stuff started coming out around that time and it got lost in the shuffle. even if it is only a 3 I should still make some time for it probably
>>73527538
Oh 3/5 is very good for me.
this my dudes, close second is Dirty Projectors
>>73517123
I just love aoty threads what can I say.
We are reaching bump limit.
>>73517771
I took the time to listen to all of the artists in your chart (but the ones I already knew), it was fun, I liked Mono no Aware, the new Ryan Adams and I didn't know Basinski made new stuff, so ty
who loves this album
>>73517123
Peasant is my favourite too.
>>73530402
its fucking awful sounds like a shitty blog pop rock band from 2009. way to late to be trying to be cure white guys making 2009 style indie rock...
>>73525426
This
and its a 7.5/10 only desu
>>73530196
ty based anon. Ryan Adams would be higher but the lyrics are pretty awful and I'm an RA stan.
>>73517060
i've only heard two of those, good job
ngl for half of these, I was kinda iffy about them
but I haven't heard enough music I really liked this year
not yet anyway
>>73527620
+1 for Richard Dawson
seeing him on sunday
>>73519303
pretty much
>>73527388
t. Boomkat fuccboi
Surprised there wasnt more lorde
>>73514249
it's just nonagon infinity with some edgy dark fantasy spoken word layered over the entire thing to distract you from the fact that there are only two really long songs on the whole album
>>73532660
first track im listening to farting, and i'm okay with this
>>73533431
Filthy poptimist
>>73533794
do you like any rap/rock albums anon? you better not, filthy raptimist/rockist
>>73531134
dunno if bait, what cure song sounds like management or on letting go?
>>73533758
I don't understand the first track at all particularly in context of the album. Literally why.
>>73516077
Really loved this album. Jupiter is my SOTY too.
>>73533306
Last time I named the image boomkatcore, so yeah this is fair. Tho there's still plenty they hype up that left me cold, but I guess that goes without saying since they basically hype up everything so that people will give them money
>>73517194
found the pleb
Bad year so far
>>73535932
Agree somewhat (about the year, idk that album). I'd say that this year is like a 7 on average, where there's been a lot of just good/very good albums out but no amazing ones (I don't like rating music like that but it's the best way to explain it), but other well-regarded years have also been 7s, just with less consistency but much bigger high points.
>>73514126
Wow never thought I'd see someone on /mu/ mention Dryjacket. Definitely one of my favorites of the year so far
>>73516077
I haven't liked an album this much in a while, it's a good feeling.
>>73536140
I've actually been pretty surprised it hasn't caught on. Their style is pretty popular here. I dunno maybe people have heard it and don't like it. Oliver Houston is pretty similar as I recall and has gotten a lot more momentum here.
im gay
>>73536405
I haven't heard him yet but Dryjacket is so dynamic in how they go from emo to indie rock and more stripped acoustic songs to more layered songs. I think they're a top band in that niche atm
>>73516014
do you have a link to this? can't seem to find it anywhere
>>73536820
Have you heard Caddywhompus? If not check that out too. I gave it the same score as Dryjacket. Im still holding out on Oliver but kinda leaning 3/5
>>73536979
Its on my to hear list. If its on Dryjackets level tho its getting high priority now tho haha
>>73519669
Also digging this, especially the last third of the album

>>73524986
What is this? I'm on my phone and can't reverse search it.
>>73542597
Realistically this is probably going to be the best year of music we get from all these artists at once for some time.
>>73543450
Dada by B Boys
only heard two songs and it's already aoty desu
Don't forget this is the year of Death of Pablo.
Still waiting for Brand New to drop LP5
>>73542597
Did you hear the new Colin Stetson that came out today? Ex Eye. I'm trying to decide which is better or if theyre both about equal.
>>73544892

>>73545163
Oh yeah I'm feeling a 4/5 but trying to let it sit for more than just a day so I can be as sure as I can. I'm much more partial to this style than Glory so I'm a little concerned about my objectivity.

i don't listen to metal so im not able to give you a good opinion sorry!
the first one was neat though. too much noodling for me but i'm sure it will grow on me when i relisten. if you liked it i would definitely recommend Saagara.
>>73514100
OP's post = my vote
>>73518324
Oh shit, there's a new Flotation Toy Warning? How the fuck did I miss this
Also Big Fish is the only thing that I thought was more than just 'really good' so far
>>73514100
Pure Comedy, A Crow Looked At Me, Greatest Hits
I mostly came to this thread because with my new internship I don't have that much time to listen to new music and search it out. And I don't use a streaming service to just search shit out.
>>73546528
Planning for Burial is more metal than Ex Eye as I recall.
>>73516077
Mega link?
Hold onto your butts. We're reaching bump limit boys.
>>73514100
OKNOTOK and the Sgt. Peppers remix are the two best albums so far from 2017.
>>73548901
Those don't count. You have to pick something else.
>>73548917
Crack-Up is my real answer. The best tracks so far are the new/old Radiohead tracks though.
>>73524986
It's actually Parquet Courts just bloated and not better. Overall too long, too monotonous.
EP was infinitely better.
>>73548876
No we're not. Not by about 100 posts.
>>73549237
I think they meant that they were bumping the thread
Is it just me or has France been kicking ass this year? I'm about to pull the trigger on a 4/5 for Comity who've opened for converge, dep etc
>>73519016
Phenomenal album, for me a close second to pic related
Would you guys count a compilation album from a bunch of different artists with tracks that weren't made this year as eligible for AOTY?
>>73516976
i think so
>>73552284
Maybe if all the songs were previously unreleased. Otherwise absolutely not.
>>73514249
It's literally fucking Scooby Doo chase music, with the exception of four songs
>>73518324
What this guy posted
>>73552269
Oh man, this is a favorite of mine too. Second track off it might be my favorite track of the year so far.
>>73517060
that '68 album rocks so goddamn hard
>>73516863
It's just a bunch of toilet sounds. Don't get the hype.
The new live songs convinced me this will be at least 8/10
>>73518324
