We're having some listenalongs the week leading up to Christmas.
It starts on 17th and ends on 24th. We'll be playing the albums/EPs in the order as shown in the pic, every day at 4 and 5PM EST. If anyone has any objections or wants to make any changes, I am all ears.
So if you're a lonely nig, have some fun with us.
/shugazi/ as usual u kno what it is
The only music I listen to it pic related and EL-P, what's something gothic and dreamy doesn't like shit.

I just listened to EP2 and really liked it. Thanks, man.

I'll check these out too, thanks.
Just found out about this pedal. Anyone either have it or know some shoegaze bands that have used it? Probably going to pick one up soon, that flute setting in particular just demands to find a home in some lush wave of guitar noise.

>>69650285
the flute thing makes a lot of sense for shoegaze considering mbv had a flute player for live shows and used feedback to imitate flutes for loveless
>>69649472
Panic Attacks Are What Make Me Me made me fall in love with that band.

it would be interesting to see how far that pedal could be pushed beyond the classic orchestral sounds,
or even in a blackgaze context

Maybe instead of 4 and 5, it could be 4 and 7 or something.
Cause the issue last time was that people would have had to listen at like 1am cause it was only scheduled for 7.
We gotta ask shugazi_pleb cause he's running the listenalongs.
4 and 7 seems good.

Yo, where do I go for the most complex shoegaze layering? I am not talking like the MBV Guitar+synth+random static noise thing but like how Catherine Wheel has some tracks where they are playing they are playing three different guitar parts and it's actually kinda complex but since it's shoegaze it just kinda sucks you in rather than the more alienating feel you get from such ambition in other genres.
So yeah, tldr more shoegaze like some of the songs by Catherine Wheel where they have a lot of simultaneous guitar parts.

>>69688234
bc the only two people who have ever listened to swirlies are shameless swirlies shill and chris ot and salons is the better album anyway
>>69688234
You're not wrong at all. Just because that album-or any album-gets "neglected" doesn't mean it's bad. I think that album is pretty great.
I don't normally like weebgaze but this was really pleasantly surprising. The guitars are ridiculously fuzzy, like Astrobrite level almost pure noise, and the Miku vocals actually kind of work. Good melodies, not too loud and obnoxiously "anime-sounding".
Question: What is it that makes people use vocaloid instead of actual vocals? Most of the time they sound like shit, and I imagine programming them is a lot more work (and more limiting) than getting some girl to do real vocals
>>69688411
shoegaze guys can't talk to real girls.
but probably an actual answer to your question is probably just the interest in vocaloid. vocaloid is a big thing for weeaboos and if they're into shoegaze it's probably not really an attempt to use a girl's voice more than it is to mix the styles.
>>69688234

Not really but I can see why you would ask, there are some interesting guitar textures in there. It's just not lush enough to be considered more than a token influence though. Awesome math rock song though, thanks for sharing.
>>69688411
For me it's partially the novelty (new audio tech has to be used in music, right?) and partially that it sounds cool (It's obviously not a human singing and those little audible differences sound neat). Nanairo is the only vocaloid shoegaze album I've listened to so far that actually does it well though. I'm definitely hoping more high-quality stuff is on its on way and I got Hatsune Miku myself a while back for other things so I imagine I'll probably jump on the bandwagon at some point too.

>>69695702
Mew is one of my favorite bands and Glass-handed Kites is one of the best albums ever written, always nice to see them mentioned. That said I also haven't been able to find anything that sounds quite like them, their mix of texture, odd meters and um... "unusual" vocals isn't exactly a common combination. Death By Kite is the closest I've found and that's only because it's also reverb-y rock with vocals in a similar style, in terms of actual writing the two are very different.

I can't believe I had not heard this one before. I love Cocteau Twins, but somehow this slipped past my attention. What an amazing piece of music.
>>69688411
it's a particular sort of sound
more like an effect a la vocoder use on rap tunes
you listened to Cosmicdust?

yo you should definitely listen to all of their 1983-85 EP's if you haven't yet. Seriously, some are better than their full albums.
(also listen to their bonus tracks off of their box set, they're great)
