It's so fucking weird and messy. But in a good way?
waiting on a high quality mashup of the two Wolves versions
People will probably be shitposting about it for weeks though.
Expect threads with the album as the picture going IS THIS THE SHITTIEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME WHEN DID KANYE BECOME SUCH A HACK??!?
GREATEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME CONFIRMED?!?!?
>mfw listening to Pablo and replaying Hitman for the hundredth time
Anyone else just happy to hear Frank and confirm he's alive and fucking HOPING he drops something soon?
OH SHIT A MR FRENSKY FEATURE ON NEW YE, IT CAN'T GET BETTER THAN THIS
If MBDTF was Kanye at his most grandiose and Yeezus was Kanye at his most raw, this this is Kanye at the perfect medium. It's incredible. I'm on my third playthrough and I can't get enough.
A sticky is to contain the discussion, Not to put something on a pedestal over something else. If this thread isn't here, There is a million fucking threads where as Anco can stay in one or two threads
It's basically like listening to one of Kanye's autistic interviews, but converted into music. Some of it is really amazing but other parts are too directionless and random. 7.5 on a first listen, I liked it.
Ultralight Beam, I love Kanye, and Waves are the only ones I like so far. I have a few songs left to listen to.
Someone clear this up for me:
Is Feedback the one with "I need you right nowww i need your right now" or is that Freestyle 4???
is it really that God damned hard to go to a torrenting site and find the fucking album? holy shit guy
He's known to work with a lot people, so I think it's normal that the samples are diverse and borderline obscure sometimes. Even if Kanye doesn't know all that stuff someone around him does
I would say the trifecta is College Dropout, Late Registration, and Graduation.
MBDTF is a good album but took a starkly differenty direction. He's been a very different artist throughout many of his diff releases
Its crazy to me that three of the greatest albums ever recorded are by Kanye West. TLOP, Yeezus and MBDTF are all hallmarks of modern music and its quite staggering to be alive during their heyday.
I often wondered what it would be like to be around when albums like Dark Side of the Moon and Abbey Road came out. Now I wonder what it will be like telling my children about the day TLOP dropped. They won't understand. Hell, lots of people around today on this very board don't understand.
But who cares? The people who matter do.
While the album is lyrically weak, West is great on the mic and the sampling is top-tier.
What I'm left wondering is who thought these guests artists sounded good? "No More Parties in LA" is almost ruined by Lamar, and I usually love Lamar.
KANYE OFFICIAL ALBUM POWER RANKING
It's not like those are particularly obscure. You know when you've spent the last 20 years of your life doing almost nothing but looking for samples you listen to shitloads of music. I'm surprised Ye hasn't sample Metallica yet like DJ Shadow.
Are you forgetting that retarded white people can't handle Kanye West's outspokeness and public persona so they have to raid his public scores and give him 1's so that they can pretend whities like G-Eazy, Macklemore, and Eminem are the greatest rappers of all time?
Yeezus was his fucking worst album
Everything before MBDTF was beautiful.
>MY DAUGHTER'S JUST LIKE SIA YOU CAN'T SEE HER
>Sia literally not on the album
Yeezus is still his best. Probably his most 'time capsule' album. Couldn't have been made in any other time or with any other mindset. His most raw, honest and emotional album by far.
THE OFFICIAL PERFECT TRACKLIST FOR TLOP
AKA "HOW TO FIX THIS FUCKING ALBUM"
1. Ultra light beam
2. FSMH 1
3. Pt. 2
5. Feedback (make longer, add a feature)
9. Real Friends
12. 30 hours (add a fucking 3 stacks verse, get rid of the shit outro)
13. NMPILA (bonus track)
Get rid of the shit interludes and Waves
I guess it's just my perspective since I'm from Michigan and all of the dumbass white kids in high school acted like Eminem was the greatest rapper of all times and despised Kanye.
Those retards in HS even loved MMLP2. But I suspect they knew it was a terrible album, because every single one of them always gave the reason "OMG HEADLIGHTS IS SO SAD IT MADE ME CRY" as a reason as to why it's a good album.
>three of great albums
>anything from kanye
weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew lad you need a fucking grip.
this is the official album art. stop posting the concept art shit
>LR sounds too much like a conventional hip hop album
he went even further than what he was doing on College Dropout and had all sorts of shit that was never seen in hip-hop, at least at that time, with string arrangments and shit and far more lavish production, what the fuck are you on
*sigh* this is the worst conspiracy theory. Of course some people don't like Kanye because they are racists, but they are probably 45 year old rednecks in Missouri who don't read Pitchfork and use RYM. Calling people who don't like Kanye racist will make them like Kanye less, so if you want to spread the love of yeezus quit with this shit.
Anyone else here put Yeezus as one of Kanye's top 3 albums?
And no this isn't some le contrarian meme shit thing.
It's a great cohesive album with no filler and a new, different sound that Kanye sounds great on.
What I like most about TLOP is that it is an undeniably exceptional piece of art.
Yeezus was a masterpiece too but attracted a lot of vocal detractors who were actually taken quite seriously.
Anyone who speaks negatively against TLOP is immediately viewed as the joke that they are.
I thought it was 7/10 at my first listen. Now it's clicking with songs like Highlight, Real Friends, Feedback, UBL.
Regarding Yeezus, I liked it but I feel like it's great in the first half, then it falls a bit until Bound 2, which is also great.
Yeezus is my favorite but haven't heard TLOP yet. What makes it so good. I'm kinda scared because of all the features. Yeezus felt isolated, cold and industrial. What's the mood on TLOP?
Yeah, that's what I figured.
Wasn't a comment on obscurity. They just didn't seem particularly "Kanye" choices. I guess suggestions from other trusted parties aren't beyond the realm of possibility.
The album is getting more appreciation on /mu/ than motherfuckin KTT. What is going on here?
Anyway, I think it's cool. Still trying to figure it out but it's not bad. Definitely not his best, but not nearly his worst.
I was very careful not to use the word "racist" to describe people who don't like Kanye. Many people who complain about Kanye are racist, it's a fact. But I know plenty of people who are not racist that don't like Kanye because he's a douchebag.
But there's just something really weird about it that makes me feel it's pretty racist, y'know? Like Eminem was rapping about raping his wife, killing his Mom, and all of this edgy shit in the 90s/early 00's and nobody gave a fuck. Yet Kanye doesn't rap about any of that, Kanye pretty much pushed for that kind of rap to stop, but has a public persona that's over the top, and people fucking scream whenever he has an opinion.
He's mot calling anyone racist retard, if someone listens to Macklemore they're the direct opposite of racist, anyway anon's saying that retarded media darlings who don't actually listen to Kanye do nothing but rate his album a 1 to be ebin cool trolls and contrarians or dad rockers who were born in the wrong generation.
>I'm kinda scared because of all the features.
Have you listened to MBDTF? He gets small parts from a shit ton of artists. On this album, he typically gets other artists to sing the hook/do background vocals. Hardly any guest verses.
The whole album is a 10/10. Just when you think the album is getting bogged down by all the negative vibes, you'll get the chill and straightforward Guilt Trip and send it up. It also ends with a light note.
no, the mainstream hates kanye as far as i can tell. all of my friends who enjoy music on a serious level love kanye more than ever, and my friends who only listen to the radio say "kanye hasnt been good since 2008"
I hate how people are incapable of separating artist and art. Yeah, Yeezy's an asshole. Sure, Drake is probably a nice guy. Neither of those facts make Yeezy's music bad or Drake's music good.
lol? Plebs love Yeezus. It's basically nothing but bangers.
I guess there's this meme on /mu/ that the album is inaccessible because its production sounds 'wierd' to them having not actually heard any industrial or abrasive music music outside of death grips before, but it's really not.
He means a Chevy Equinox.
>Thinking TCD hasn't aged like sour milk
>listening to the shitty production on Family Business
If Hold My Liquor was replaced with something more like the first four songs It would be a perfect 10/10, just like if Jay's verse on Monster was deleted MBDTF would be a 10/10.
Also TLOP might raise higher on repeat listens, might go lower, I've listened to it twice so far.
I wouldn't say people who listen to Macklemore aren't racist. His tracks that tackle race issues are often poorly received by white people. But like you pointed out, it's probably retarded media darlings who don't actually listen to the songs that hate those social tracks of Macklemore's.
>Yeah, Yeezy's an asshole
No he's not. He's an asshole to paparazzi who constantly harass him. People who've met Kanye say he's one of the nicest and most intelligent people they ever met. That includes McCartney and other music legends.
>what's going on here
everytime theres a leak from a meme rapper (kanye, kendrick, earl etc...) or meme indie band (anco, sufjan stevens, etc...) hoards of rredditors come here wanting the leak because 4chan is the only site that hosts it open heartedly. then they stick around to discuss it for a day or two before they go back to rreddit
every time you come here when a big musician's album leaks, you're most likely surrounded by people who aren't /mu/tants wanting the same thing
so basically this isnt mu liking it, it's rreddit
but there are still "a million fucking threads," and I feel like by making this thread you make the kanye fanboys feel empowered so they spam even fucking more. I mean you say its "not to put it on a pedastal" but it still has that effect, intended or not.
I like MBDTF a lot but I think CD is more my style. Just a little more raw and lyrically driven but still has those catchy samples. Haven't listened to Yeezus completely through. There are just so many classics on College Dropout, the first time you listened to it you knew it was something special.
I kinda like famous, but it has awkward placement in the track listing and weird pacing with that odd Rihanna hook that seems completely separate from the song. That ending "bee bo bo" sample is fucking fire though, anyone know what it's from?
Huh, it finally came out. Too bad it's Valentine's Day and I'm playing 808's before I head to work on a rainy day because fuck Valentine's Day, I guess. I guess I'll check this out later today or something. Is it considerably different from the stream version, and someone please tell me that Kanye unfucked Wolves.
The only 'banger' aspect of Yeezus is the drop on blood on the leaves. Everything else is alienating and abrasive. The buzz saw synths on 'On Sight', the screech sample on 'Hold my Liquor' or the weird ass song structure on 'I'm In It'.
I tell you what Kanye album plebs like, they absolutely love Graduation.
Entire album is solid. One of Ye's best, sonically as beautiful as Yeezus and MBDTF.
Father Stretch my Hand Pt1/Pt2
Are personal favorites atm, but Ive only had a couple of listens.
>Everything else is alienating and abrasive
Are you kidding me Black Skinhead is incredibly catchy
When you hear it for the first time literally from the first 5 seconds you are hooked in
When people heard it in The Wolf of Wallstreet's trailer everyone was like "YO WHAT IS THIS SONG??"
4 listen throughs so far.
The thesis of the album, to me, is that Kanye is never afraid to back down or take action in the name of art.
To me that's the best kind of response to how he's perceived in the media.
This album is not regular. This album is a classic.
I very much enjoyed it and liked it but I always thought from how strange and varied the singles were (only one/real friends/fade/all day etc) that Yeezy was really struggling to figure out what he wants to do with this album and even the final product is pretty all over the place in terms of overarching theme and focus
also Ultra Light Beam is amazing and it's so disappointing that nothing else on the album comes close to it save for Father Stretch My Hands, there's a lot of solid tracks but not many genuinely amazing ones
What is that sample in Famous? The one that sounds kinda like a hollow block of wood being struck by a wooden rod. It sounds like something from Late Registration, the "Wake up Mr. West" is also obviously from there too, but I can't figure out which song the sample is from because he has DEFINITELY used it before
Most of the people I've seen or talked to that hate Kanye West's music only hate him personal or hate he makes rap and would respect him if he made 'THE REAL GENRE' rock, most people I know that like rap like Kanye, unless you're a super contrarian or just don't like samples then you're the person on I Love Kanye
Yeah, the only legitimate person he's been an ass to is Taylor Swift, and that's not particularly fair seeing how his life was falling apart at that time, it was more of a panic induced thing, like he got put into flight or fight mode.
>The only 'banger' aspect of Yeezus is the drop on blood on the leaves.
lol? On Sight is the only track you could say is off-putting. Hold My liquor, I'm In It, Bound 2, alienating and abrasive? lmao get your head out of your ass.
>i love yeezus
>i bet you think death grips is a meme
seriously its only a matter of time before fans don't like the album, just like how kanye himself doesn't like the fucking album and said he should have out more work into it
im still a little sad only one wasnt on it
would fit perfectly with all the dad talk
I suppose you're right. To expound, I think the album is good but definitely not perfect. Kanye could've had something amazing if he just delayed it.
Anyone know who helped produce Ultra Light Beams? Sounds like some of Chance's guys had a hand in it.
>tfw first hearing Famous
>that absolute wreckage of Taylor Swift
Yeezus isnt really accesible to plebs. I tried playing Im in it, and guilt trip when i had the lads with me and they thought it was boring. besides from the 2 singles he released and the kanye nostalgia fags with bound 2 nothing else was normie-core
Remove the filler and the album is comparable to MBDTF. When it's good.... it's really really really good. The problem is it is overshadowed by tracks that should never have been included (Silver surfer) or were butchered (Wolves and 30 Hours). Feeling a decent to strong 7 on this one guys.
>Hold My liquor, I'm In It, Bound 2, alienating and abrasive?
Bound 2 is easily the most accessible song on the whole album. I didn't even mention it, most people who dislike Yeezus like Bound 2. The rest of the album is however alienating. The high pitched screams, the industrial synths, the somewhat disturbing lyrics. It's not mainstream friendly in the slightest, all the co-producers are internet-famous oddballs like Arca and Gesaffelstein.
I agree that Yeezus bangs but to most people it's way too harsh.
>Ultra Light Beam
>Father Pt1 &2
Don't understand why they're split up at all. Bleached asshole line is cringy. The beats are the only thing saving these two.
Rihanna and Kanye's parts are nothing special but why the fuck do they still let Swizz Beats out of his cage? He ruins every song he's on.
It's fine, don't have anything to say about it.
Low Lights is getting fucking deleted, why is that shit two minutes long? Headlights is just okay. I saw somebody unironically say that this is a better transition than Interlude/All of the Lights, get the fuck outta here.
>I love Kanye
still zzzzzz but gets points for actually getting a little introspective since almost everything before this has been basically about nothing.
Breath of fresh air but it sucks that we already heard this before. Honestly, I don't think I like anything between ULB and Real Friends. None of the beats are memorable, the verses are weak, the transitions are terrible, boring features, just nothing really sticks out.
He fucking ruined Wolves. Kanye's verse is terrible and Frank just doesn't replace Vic or Sia at all. I'll be listening to the Vic/Sia/Frank mashup only from now on.
Good but I'm disappointed that Andre 3000 didn't actually rap.
>No More Parties in LA
Great but, again, we already heard it
Better than it was before but still pretty bad
2nd best song on the album
The first half is some of the weakest shit Kanye's ever put out and the second half is just barely saved by Fade and the bonus tracks we already heard. The whole thing is just an uncohesive, rushed mess. Easily my least favorite Kanye album and it honestly makes me less excited to hear the next thing he puts out.
Why don't people like Waves?
Is it because you don't feel it was worth pushing the album 2 days?
I dunno I like it a lot especially the "there's no light in the shade" verse
super uplifting song about losing someone and how they still live through their loved ones with a beat that mimics the rippling of a wave
Sound off in the comments section below!
The Chris Brown singing makes it sound a little too much like any other radio pop song
It's a little cluttered with that, Ye, the faster isntrumental, and the sample voice shouting that little snippet
I still like it though. It just definitely sounds like a radio pop song.
It's an inverted On Sight. Whereas that song had shitty harsh synths and a great soul sample, Bound 2 has shitty soul samples and a great synth section. But seriously, that track's a goddamn joke if it's supposed to be a throwback to his soul sample style.
I hate this man so much. I don't understand why he still has a job.
if you saw college dropout come out and seen what it did to music and how superior every rhyme was. Then you would know
I didn't start listening to him until graduation, so I can't judge, but i'm from chicago and college dropout is like the velvet underground and nico for these people
Facts/nmpla shouldn't have been on it, even as bonus tracks.
Also fade would have fit nicely where it was originaly listed as going (right next to FML), not sure why it was downgraded to a bonus track, and it doesn't work as an album closer.
>Kanye West thinking I was going to buy his album after he delayed the released and only released it on his shit tier streaming service
Thank you based MEGA bros
facts is still shit, but a million times more tolerable with the new mix
famous is kinda shit but man the outro gets to me
overall 8.5/10 people can complain about the mastering but the production is top notch, and so coherent through the whole album
>not having extended wolves with sia and vic
I think the problem is that Kanye takes the ridiculousness out of his art and into real life. Sure eminem used all kinds of shocking lyrics and embraced notoriety but never got on a mic and was like "George Bush hates black people" or the Taylor Swift thing, etc.
Plus eminem did get a decent amount of shit but he just made funny or good songs with it. Before he had that really lame phase that is.
I think facts was just supposed to be a meme song.
See: Keith Ape - it G ma
literal korean meme trap, and its all i could think of when i was listening to facts
Bar that, the album is hit and miss. Incredibly based though.
>it comes out and people are loving it calling it the best
>next day people hate it
The annoying thing about the adlibbing is that it ruins the great production that was added to it in the album from the soundcloud version.
If someone could just mix the soundcloud version with the production of the album but cut out the kanye it'd go from an 8 to a 10/10

It's funny because /mu/ doesn't discuss any of the artist featured on these tracks. Way to mainstream and black for them.
Holy shit, I got chills when he talked about Mary on Wolves.
Shit is so true. Fucking women, man.
Cut out the shit to make a 10/10 album
1. Ultralight Beam
2. Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1/Pt. 2
7. Real Friends
9. 30 Hours
10. No More Parties in LA
I bought College Dropout the day it came out, and fucking loved it to the point where I used to proclaim it was the best rap debut of all time behind Illmatic. I still love it, it's just been surpassed by his other work.
Also, I'm from Milwaukee and half of my friends are from Chicago, and I've never heard a single person praise College Dropout as much as I have. Just because I like other Kanye more doesn't mean I haven't been a fan since The Blueprint.
>why the fuck do they still let Swizz Beats out of his cage? He ruins every song he's on.
have you heard Summer on Smash by Nas ft. Swizz Beats? that song is fire. Swizz can be really good.
why didnt you put chance ft on ultra light beams
Reminder that when Anthony Fantano reviews this (terribly btw because that dumbass doesn't know how to review rap to save his life) and eviserates for some retarded reason (remember when he called Yeezus bad because it "ripped off Deathgrips"?) /mu/ will agree with him and hate it.
I liked Yeezus when it lived up to its supposed schtick...for 2 songs. So much of it is toothless for how abrasive it's trying to be. My problem isn't that it challenges me, it's that I find it fucking boring for an album that's trying to challenge me. Yeezus as an album does not move me.
all the hooks were great. Cudi on Waves was awesome. desiigner did a pretty good future impression on freestyle 4 but killed panda part 2. Frank Ocean, Chance and Kelly Price were the best features.
it's very clearly his best album, with the possible exception of MBDTF. it sounds like you just don't get it, and thats fine. i don't get 808s and its my least favorite kanye album because of it. people seem to like 808s though, so idk
What the fuck? Most people were dissapointed when Yeezus came out. It was a terrible album. Charlmagne said it was wack - everyone took his side, Kanye said it was for profit and now peole say that it is his BEST album? What?
you must have not listened to his previous work. Or maybe you just started to like his music when Yeezus came out. idk maybe I just like his previous albums because it makes me feel nostalgic. I really hated Yeezus
Does he even make music reviews anymore? I checked his channel the other day and I saw a video of him ripping off PC Principal from South Park, I guess he's trying to appeal to the le edgy 15 year olds who watch him.
Also I keep on seeing him comment on videos that make fun of things that leddit hates.
I don't visit /mu/ often but I love that there are other people out there who care about song order in albums as much as I do. I'm real glad this site isn't 100% shit yet
I figured, but I mean that ending of Real Friends is just blatantly setting up those howling back up vocals in Wolves that it works too good to not have the songs right next to each other on the album.
just my opinion though, so long as you're enjoying it too that's all that matters.
these tracks alone are better than the entirity of 808s and Yeezus.
is this on youtube or soundcloud or some shit
too lazy to dl
Actually, it sounds like he's talking about an old relationship that whole time. He had the idea to have an open relationship but got upset when she slept with someone else, then he realized how hypocritical he was.
808's is my personal favorite because it's vastly different in tone from anything else he's done for the despondent. Kanye's never shied away from his introspective tendencies but he's never full-on embraced it elsewhere like he did on 808's, and the end aesthetic sounds like a fucking emotional winter, from the minimalist beats to the use of autotune to the staunch focus on Kanye's sadder side (with the occasional touch of his lighter side like on Paranoid or RoboCop). Really, if you can dig what 808's is doing, and I mean REALLY get into it, then the rest of his discography doesn't even compare just because it's so tonally different. 808's is as isolated in real life as its music suggests, and you either embrace that or you don't. Personally, I'd rather listen to it than anything else he's done.
man i just realized how amazing Real Freinds and Wolves lead into eachother
>Whoop him after school just to show I got class
It's a high end gym meant for motherfuckers with money
here's a link to the yelp page of the one he may go to so you can check it out
MAYBE IF FRANK EVEN CONFIRMS HE'S MAKING A NEW ALBUM THEN WE MIGHT HAVE SOMETHING TO GET HYPED ABOUT DON'T PRETEND THIS BOARD WOULDN'T COLLECTIVELY SHIT ITSELF IF FRANK RELEASES AN ALBUM MEMER
why? i honestly found pablo a bit boring, the beats doesnt excite me like yeezus did and the lyrics are not his strong. he had fucking andre 3000 just to say a couple of lame words. Some songs are okay but forgetable, theres no highlight for me.
Back Up in here... Once again Thanks for the warm welcome /MU/...
How You guys like the Album?
>Yeezus best album
>Not knowing All Falls Down
Easily one of the best soundtracks of all time
It's akin to watching There Will Be Blood for the first time
how did we go from MBDTF to yeezus this
what went wrong?
at this rate his next album will push the boundaries of what can even be considered music. i'm not shitting on TLOP, it had some good tracks and the gospel stuff isn't bad, but what the fuck happened to kanye in the 6 years since MBDTF
dude must have done way too much acid or something
Only half of MBDTF was brooding. It definitely delved into darker depths than 808's when it chose to but it also made Graduation's grandstanding look like an anthill compared to its mountain. MBDTF peaks and valleys with reckless abandon, but I think that's what makes it interesting.
