can we start considering this an evolution rather than a rehash?
>>
>>62074684
Its my favorite KC album, but I'd say Larks Tongue is their best...
>>62074864
Its the same style and one of the songs is literally ripped from ITCOTCK but its definitely different, more varied
>>
>>62074864
>>62074939
Though it doesn't fit their direction of evolution
>>
>>62074939
So a band gets a hugely positive reaction and they want to elaborate on what was originally so good
>>
>>62074812
Elaborate.
>>
>>62074812
what is the difference between approach and specific taste? is it an egg - chicken deal? That becomes trivial to me
>>
>>62074684
I agree, it's second to Red
>>62074864
This album suffers from the fact that Side 1 is a rehash (albeit still an incredibly good one) and Side 2 is a disastrously bad mess.
>>
>>62074970
I'm not sure if they reacted to it, some of the material was written before ITCOTCK was released. For me it isn't the similar style/sound, it was the lack of cohesiveness. The only thing keeping it together was the peace theme and cadence and cascade (because it was acoustic, consistent with the theme). Otherwise the album makes no sense, then again thats KC in a nutshell; great songs, strange albums.

A patrician is a person who demonstrates laudable musical understanding and knowledge across a broad range of styles, and has independently formed a critical perspective from which he artistically evaluates music he hears, without paying heed to hype or anti-hype but solely on the basis of its musical composition as well as its role in the broader socio-artistic context.

A patrician also demonstrates the ability to logically defend his conclusions during a reasoned debate, should he be challenged.

Much of the commentary in this thread exhibits one of the most profound misconceptions re: the nature of patricianhood, namely that it is somehow derived from the music itself. This makes no sense, and can never make sense, and was never the basis of Plebeian-Patrician Theory.

Patricianhood is the antithesis of plebeianhood. Plebeianhood can be thought of as a sort of musical learned helplessness; a weak mind when exposed to the fundamental questions of aesthetics - What makes music good or bad? Do good and bad music exist? - buries itself in the proverbial sand, shutting out any threats of critical interpretations with shortcuts such as "MUH FEELS" or "it's entry-level" or "that's so generic", statements which are meaningless in any useful critical sense and indicate nothing about their supposed subject, but rather shift the focus of analysis from questions of artistic merit to questions of meta-artistic merit. E.g., "Does p4k/Scaruffi/CLT like it?" "Is this music popular or unpopular, on /mu/ or otherwise?"
>>
Discipline is objectively the best King Crimson album.
>>
>>62075004
A patrician would be open to all different types of music and only listen for themselves not to impress others.
>>
>>62075060
>Side 1 is a rehash
or a new version
>Side 2 is a disastrously bad mess
that's where they started to infer their experimental side which evolved into something really fucking good in the next period of releases

>>

Just because its a transitional album desn't mean it isn't a mess.
>>
>>62075132
>a new version
I can accept this as an argument
>infer to their experimental side
This is where I draw the line. There is nothing "experimental" about an obnoxious jazz rock piece with some of the most awful lyrics ever and insanely bad piano playing. Neither is there anything experimental about literally 13 minutes of wanky noise noodling. The former is an example of a lack of good ideas and the latter is just an example of plain laziness

Larks' Tongue in Aspic and Red tho
>>
>>62075230
if you disagree with any of that you honestly have no place on /mu/
>>
>>62075120

If you're a pleb, maybe
Larks', Red, and ITCOTCK are the patrician choices
>>
>>62075240
It's not a mess to me in the least atm
>>
>>62075246
Are you dissing Cat Food and The Devil's Triangle.
>>
>>62075319

Yes. Both are some of the worst songs I've ever heard, period.
>>
>>62075293
>This is a person's opinion
>>
>>62075099
i'm patrician homie i listen to shit like soundtracks of the blind amön dul and kendrick lamar and shit, and my aproach to music is pretty critiqué and undestandable, you dunno jack shit homie and your tripping with that wall of text senpai talking shit back and forth nigga ur a tripfag i know it >>62075288 are you a fucking dictator nigga we al deserve a place to discuss music no matter what family >>62074684 and nigga this is ther best album i dont browse 9gag homie im on mobile so its kinda fucked up >>62075348
are you retarded
>>
>>62075382
>citing specific artists he enjoys to prove his patricianhood

way to miss the point faggot. a patrician can like any artist in the world. the only thing precluding one from being a patrician is an inability to defend their position in a critical discussion. if all you can do is namedrop, you're a worthless pleb who doesn't belong here.
>>
>>62075348
Man, I love the piano in Cat Food, and I'm pretty sure that The Devil's Triangle is the only successful adaption of a classical piece I've ever heard.
>>
>>62075352
Discipline is good and all but shit like The Sheltering Sky brings it down.
>>62075382
Jesus christ I'm not even going to read that. Go back to Twitter man.
>>62075426
The piano in Cat Food sounds like an autist slamming on the keyboards. And Devil's Triangle is anything but successful.
>>
>>62075516
>Discipline is good and all but shit like The Sheltering Sky brings it down.
>Not liking one of the highlights of the album

Literally what is wrong with you
>>
>>62074684
The vocals are way better on their debut than any other KC album though. I much prefer Greg Lake to the guy they have on Red, for instance.
>>
>>62075594

The highlights for me are stuff like Indiscipline, Frame by Frame, Elephant Talk, Matte Kudesai and Thela Hun Ginjeet. The rest are either not as good or are ambient noodling.
>>
>>62075628
>Best vocals
>Not Discipline
what
>>
>>62075516
>The piano in Cat Food sounds like an autist slamming on the keyboards
are you familiar with free jazz?
>>
>>62075659
The whole album is literally perfect. If you can't see that it is the best KC album then I'm sorry to say you are a pleb.
>>
>>62075662
I like John Wettons voice the best personally
>>
>>62075689
It's a great album but it's no better than Larks'
>>
>>62074812
This anon gets it 10/10 job

>>62075628
This is very fair

>>62075423
you're on fuckin' fire m8. Nicely done

personally I think I like Islands the most. The title track and all its glorious proto-Godspeed horns and whatnot are just perfection
>>
>>62075665

Yes, I do enjoy several classics in the genre. No, that is not goo free jazz, and not good anything for the matter.
>>62075689
Keep deluding yourself with your babby opinions pal
>>62075726
Larks' and Red are literally perfection
>>
>>62075690
They are nice vocals but Belew is far superior. He has many different shades on that album. From nice and "singey" on Matte Kudasai to literally insane on Indiscipline

>>62075726
Larks is the worst out of the 'big 4' KC albums

>>62075746
Pleb detected

Discipline > ITCOTCK > Red > Larks'
>>
>>62075746
Devil's Triangle is the precursor of Larks' pt 1 and worthy of being compared to it.
>>
I listened to ziggy stardust for the first time last week and I thought it was a good album, because all of the songs sounded good to me.

Whetton's voice just really hits the spot, Belew is a different entity, his is more refined and sharp in a way
>>
>>62075774
Oh you wish

Red > Larks' = ITCOTCK > Discipline > everything else

>>62075818
Yeah, but Larks' Tongues is actually coherent and isn't just autistic mellotron wankery

>>62075838

I don't give a fuck about my "patrician card."
