ITT: We tear this fucking album apart
It's been getting too much good praise on here!!
I CAIN'T UNDERSTAND YOU. GO BACK TO YOUR OWN COUNTRY
It's called motifs. Motifs are so fucking good why don't more album use them.
Let's make this thread about albums that use motifs.
Diamond Dogs does it with that one song that's split into two parts with another song in the middle. Not a big Arcade Fire fan but the Suburbs comes to mind too.
Can someone tell me when and how this album became a meme? It literally wasn't talk about until like a year ago and suddenly it blew up here and on RYM more or less simultaneously. I need some korean imageboard historians to explain this phenomena.
fuck off normie
the fun and thrill of this album wore off when every /mu/tard 15 year old started listening to it and thinking "its tha best thang ever xD japan is the worlds greatest country the live version is the uber sex".
Fuck this meme record.
Part 3 is the only not fantastic part
It's not the best Japanese record of all time, but its top 3. Still, Japan's top 3 alone is better than America's top 50.
Yellow Magic Orchestra, Boredoms, this. Only in Japan will you find the combination of technical ability, talent, forward-thinking, and an ear for pop melody like this.
ITT: Butthurt crackers unwilling to accept that the Asians outdid them again
Fishmans was a hugely respected band within Japan and it naturally spilled out overseas. But talk about "LONG SEASON", or at least a real discussion for it here is from at least 2013, I think the rest of you haven't been looking in the right places.
Honestly I never cared for it.
Like the worst parts of Pavement combined with the worst parts of My Bloody Valentine. Dude's voice really grates on me, too.
I think it gets a lot of points for being Japanese. Makes people feel cosmopolitan to rep it.
I don't get the comparisons to Pavement (who I like) and MBV (who I don't), but otherwise we totally agree. It's just some lame dub band that this board latched onto for some reason. It's not hateful or offensively bad, it's just dull.
It sounds nothing like Pavement. It's a third-rate dream pop record with reggae/dub influence.
It's pleasant sounding, but nothing interesting happens over a half hour. Way too repetitive and long.
I found it in a sharethread around 2013 as you said but I never really saw it being discussed and turned into a shitty meme until last year. As well the RYM ratings skyrocketed over the same time period.
This is such a bad comparison.
If an American band made the SAME exact album with no changes, it'd be forgotten and rated 3.00 on RYM. 4chan only likes it because its a Jap record that isn't filled with engrish, vocaloid, or derivative of outdated american pop and they're all weebs.
Bob Marley is good and I've yet to see an actual argument for him not being good that wasn't a) "I don't like reggae" or b) "I downloaded a Peter Tosh album last week trust me I know Bob Marley isn't good reggae"
Which list is more accurate? Sorry for small size but it should be big enough to read the titles.
The list on the right is close to what's popular / respected within Japan, although there are so many Fishmans albums in one place. That thing on the left is definitely made by an American nerd who read Julian Cope's book.
he never said there was an american band with a similar album, only if there was they'd be rated less because they don't have the weeb/exotic factor
pic related, average fishmans fan. go back to tumblr memekids.
>The water noise sounds like shit hitting the toilet water.
Yeah haha. I find it's a really good method for finding good foreign music on RYM.
Was Fishmans in Japrocksampler? I've never read his books but I've tended to enjoy bands that I heard were included in them.
Long Season is actually a meme? I thought it was an album that /mu/ genuinely liked. I mean, I liked it myself
I'm a bit new to this board (only been browsing for 5 months) so I wouldn't know
宇宙 日本 世田谷 (Uchū Nippon Setagaya) is better senpai
I think they weren't part of the era he covered, but it was around five years since I looked at it last. Flower Travellin' Band was included, which is why I said it. I think the book is the only reason so many people know them.
The reading is wrong. 日本→Nihon
