Friendly reminder that David Bowie wasn't actually gay and that he literally appropriated gay culture as a marketing tool.
In the late 60s Bowie used sex as a tool to try and get signed by rich homosexuals, and throughout the 70s he amended his original claim that he was gay to being only bisexual. All the while he was married to a woman and having high profile affairs with British actresses while Lou Reed had been sent to psych wards for jacking off to gay porn everyday and was dating a 6 foot 5 peruvian transexual.
Bowie admitted later in his career that his bisexuality was "more of a product of the times than actual biology".
Why does he never get shit for this?
because this was too cool of a t-shirt for people to want to call him out
>Source on Bowie using sex to find management.
"Without introducing them, Horton took Napier-Bell aside and put forward the following proposition: ‘He said that if I were to agree to come in on the management, he would allow me to have sex with his young protégé,’ says Napier-Bell"
>source on bowie not actually being gay
In a 1983 interview with Rolling Stone, Bowie said his public declaration of bisexuality was "the biggest mistake I ever made" and "I was always a closet heterosexual."
nuh uh, shes the cutie in the middle in pic related
Bowie was bi, there are more recent interviews where he confirms this. He says as homosexuality became more accepted he retreated from becoming defined by a cause, because he simply wanted to be an artist judged by his work.
Bowie's supposedly a closet torrie, and I think with Thatcher in office and his sources in the gay community confirming the aids epidemic, he was frightful and denied his bisexuality around the time Let's Dance was released.
I'm too drunk to find this interview, I think it was around the time hours was released, but he's basically like "yeah I'm bi but I hate talking about it."
>Bowie's supposedly a closet torrie
Wrong, there's references to the Labour movement in his song "Star" ("Bevan tried to change the nation" is about the NHS). Bowie grew up in the post-war welfare state, that would have undoubtedly had an influence on him. In the lead up to the last UK election David Bowie's facebook page basically backed Labour's legacy of the NHS.
Bowie, like many others, probably had mixed political views.
He was a known admirer of Camille Paglia, who is a persona non grata among the left today. He was also a businessman as well as a musician, and you don't be one of those without having your view on taxes changed. Not too long ago he asked Scotland to stay with the UK, showing that he was also a British nationalist.
On the other hand, he was absolutely socially progressive. Let's Dance and China Girl's music videos both had a racial message behind them. He was also a fighter for blacks in the music community and industry. And like what you said as well.
It's an interesting topic to look into for sure.
people need to stop being so hush hush and taboo about sex. its just outdated puritanical attitudes that are still prevalent in american society that make people afraid to acknowledge sex is a thing and the driving force behind everything
During his transformer album he was married.
Although rachel was inspiration to some of his songs on coney island baby.
speaking of reed and bowie in general,
can you imagine if they had become musical partners for like all of the 70s. Imagine what they could have put out.
Yeah it's ridiculous. Apparently they had an argument after making Transformer and didn't speak for most of the 70s. Can you imagine if Reed went to Berlin with Bowie instead of Iggy?
It woulda been great, they could have incorporated some of the characters from Reeds album Berlin and everything. Speaking of, Berlin is a great album. It gets overlooked so much though.
>he faked being gay for controversy
I highly doubt that. First of all, I don't think he "faked being gay". Unless you lied and told people he fucked other men faking had nothing to do with it. Second, I strongly doubt he did anything with the intention of causing controversy. Atleast not in the context of his sexuality. You want an example of someone doing that look at Britney Spears kissing Madonna at the MTV Music Awards or other shit of that ilk.
>I strongly doubt he did anything with the intention of causing controversy.
Do you know who David Bowie was? He matured over the years but Bowie was literally a Manson tier edgelord as far as the public was concerned in the early 70s.
>Bowie was literally a Manson tier edgelord as far as the public was concerned in the early 70s
>as far as the public was concerned
>in the early 70s
>in the early 70s
what is your point
By faking being gay I mean the guy was just a bit bicurious and intentionally used it to further his career by blowing it out of proportion. Remember, early in his career Bowie literally told interviewers he was a full on fag and then realized that didn't work so well when he was fucking married to a woman.
I'm not sure he faked being gay maliciously. He was young, on a bunch of drugs and banged Jagger a bunch of times. It's not like sexuality is necessarily some set-in-stone forever thing. I don't think it's outrageous to think that he was adventurous at the time but realized as he got older that it wasn't really his bag.
Guys like Tom Hardy have said similar things, that they experimented sexually when they were young and 'grew out of it'. Bowie just happened to be edgy enough to parade his non-standard sexuality at a time when it was very haram.
What is your point idiot? That audiences were more prude then? That public opinion doesn't matter? He made himself into a controversial figure intentionally regardless of either of those things.
>Lou Reed had been sent to psych wards for jacking off to gay porn everyday and was dating a 6 foot 5 peruvian transexual.
I'm not talking about public opinion or what people thought back then you stupid fuck.
I'm talking about the intent he had, looking at it as someone who isn't a repressed idiot from the 70s, which you'd know if you weren't a fucking twelve year old.
Bowie declared himself gay in an interview with Michael Watts in 22 January 1972 issue of Melody Maker, a move which coincided with the first shots in his campaign for stardom as Ziggy Stardust.
Meh, I take it with a grain of salt. Its a 2006 article about some nobody reporter recalling a conversation that occurs several decades ago with an artist who had just begun immersing himself in a character.
No but what people thought is actually important here you fucking retard. Obviously some of the shit he did wouldn't raise an eyebrow today, but it wasn't normal shit to do in 1972 and he did it intentionally to drum up controversy.
I'm not going to argue with you because you don't know what the fuck you're talking about. Go watch a documentary or read a book about Bowie or some shit the guy fucking invented the whole hypersexual media toying persona that people like Madonna and Lady Gaga took after.
Just watch an interview with him he was confrontational as fuck.
Friendly reminder that David Bowie wasn't actually a pedo and that he literally appropriated pedo culture as a marketing tool.
In the late 60s Bowie banged a 13 year old in order to make the elite pedo community respect him. All the while he was married to a ADULT woman and having high profile affairs with ADULT British actresses while Michael Jackson had been sent to court over his alleged pedoness.
Bowie admitted later in his career that his pedo behavior was "more of a product of the times than actual biology".
Why does he never get shit for this?
I don't actually believe in "nerd culture" and I don't really care if people "steal it" anyway. I don't feel some kind of pride for playing video games or browsing some shitty laotian cooking board. It's just something I do. Pathetic attempt at defeating an argument that wasn't ever made though sport.
He wasn't monstrous at all and that allegation of statutory rape is totally fucking bogus, but in this day and age we've decided that evidence isn't important when you have a fucking agenda to push, haven't we?
I'm not being serious. I don't think Bowie is a monster I love him. I just mean that even if famous people do reprehensible things, like Chris Brown beating up Rhiana, people don't give a shit. It's only when you've fallen out of public favor that they'll turn on you, like Cosbie. And Bowie was never not relevant.
Is his son as handsome as his father? He's making the Warcraft movie which is weird but cool I guess.
I do the same thing as Bowie, in this sjw age I pretend to be an effeminate faggot while still subtly asserting alpha tendencies. I have an abundant social life and fuck hot girl friends who think I'm a cute charming gay guy
Ugh I just looked him up. Damn shame. Bowie was one of those strangely attractive people. Like Benedict Cumberwhatever I guess, not handsome in a traditional masculine sense but very handsome regardless.
I actually don't know. The whole bi chic is fucking retarded. And there are gay people who actually look up to him. I fucking read Editorials about how Bowie was their gay idol. Holy shit, baka. Fucking queers with shit taste are worse than Bowie fans.
b-but did bowie and jagger really fug??
>His son looks like your average hipster dork, unfortunately. Bowie was one good looking mother fucker, shame it didn't pass on
She's only like 15 now, but I bet his daughter with Iman will grow up to be gorgeous. Halfbreeds usually are.
Yeah is there any proof of that? I've heard people who don't know shit about bowie say he fucked jagger but is any of it true? I understand why none of them would admit it but then where did the rumor even come from then?
Yeah but is this confirmed? Did she say this in an interview or anything? That's the thing right, if his wife supposedly walked in on it then it might aswell never have happened. It's like if i said that Eno fucked Bowie during the making of Low.
