>>61990623 I think the fact that he was a major overnight success while so many black artists struggle (mixed with the fact that heaps of praise and awards were unloaded onto him instead of black artists) gives him this unique kind of white guilt, or at least some kind of obligation to bring it up. I commend him for that, but this song is kind of an awkward and clunky way of doing that.
>>61990727 And? He was pretty much completely underground before Thrift Shop came out and it blew up extremely quickly. "Overnight success" doesn't mean "I just started doing this and already I'm famous."
If cucklemore wants to pretend to self flaggelate himself so he can make a bunch of money I have no problem with it. Its no more undignified than being a bottom in interracial gay porn, but attacking dead artists who can't defend themselves is a pretty low blow, and Elvis had far more talent than this cuck ever could.
(Nevermind the fact that the idea of cultural appropriation is retarded on a fundamental level.)
>>61990208 I understand what he means by white people typically being treated better than blacks but I feel like at this point in time all racism is more of a personal/opinionated thing than a legal thing. I personally think that this kind of thing can only change with time, like we're going to have to wait for the old and middle aged white people who hold these poor opinions to die off rather than re-educate them. I feel like society is progressing, more and more people are being themselves and crossing cultures and I think that's wonderful. And as this time passes I think we're going to become a less "look based" society, like it's going to be less based on your color. I highly doubt that people marching in the streets and otherwise causing uproars are going to change those poor opinions.
It also boils my blood when people bring up the idea that people who enjoy black culture should somehow be involved in a black rights movement. I think that you should support a problem because you see it as an issue, not because of your preference in music or clothes. I also don't like the idea of saying that something isn't "yours" to make or enjoy. A lot of great artists wouldn't have come about had this been the case.
>>61990623 this, if you're not part of the problem you should have to apologize on behalf of a race, it's fine to feel empathy but I think if you're not racist and say you're sorry, then you've been guilt-tripped in
What this song is, is a desperate attempt by Macklemore to be accepted by the hip-hop community.
I mean, look at the guy and his past and everything. He's essentially a student of hip-hop. This guy has loved the genre and the culture for what seems like his entire life. And he's out here trying to make hip-hop because that's what he loves. He wants to spread messages with his music like the rappers he idolised. You can see from his earlier music that hip-hop has played a huge part in his life. So he's making this music and he's getting buzz underground and people like him. And he's on top of the world because he's making his way into the culture he loves.
And then he makes a meme song and catapults to the top of the charts. And he's all over the place performing the music he loves in front of millions of people. But he's essentially changed from hip-hop to pop and his audience shows this. And then the Grammys incident happens and the entire hip-hop community turns against him. And he's now considered a laughingstock by the culture he looks up to. It must fucking suck.
Why do you think he put Melle Mel, Kool Moe Dee, and Grandmaster Caz in Downtown? He wants to show people that he knows his hip-hops.
So now he's making this song about white privilege to get accepted by the black community and subsequently the hip-hop community.
Unfortunately it's cringeworthy as shit and has completely backfired and shown how desperate he is.
I mean I don't like his music but I do feel bad for the man in a sense.
>>61990623 This. The cultural appropriation concept was probably made by a racist pretending to be super liberal, and now retards swallow it up. All it does is keep people in their own racial bubble. Anything that mixes cultures is basically appropriation. Like for example, wearing a kimono is now racist in the US, while in Japan they wouldn't begin to understand why it's in any way racist, even if the person doesn't know shit about Japanese culture. It would be equivalent to us calling Japanese racist for wearing skirts or jeans.
Did he seriously ask if it's okay for him to say "black lives matter?" The only people who have ever given me shit for supporting the BLM movement or asserting that black lives do, in fact, matter, were white people who apparently think black lives don't matter.
>>61991682 Also, black children being more likely than white ones to be tried as adults for the same crimes. Also, cops being pretty much openly racist any time they think nobody else is listening. Also, retired police or police who switched careers speaking up about police racism.
Also, the fact that the police force in America is literally descended from the runaway slave patrol militias. Not inspired by. Literally the same groups changed their names and professed goals.
>>61991763 >Also, the fact that the police force in America is literally descended from the runaway slave patrol militias. Not inspired by. Literally the same groups changed their names and professed goals.
>>61991655 I know right. You gotta understand that he isn't as race-conscious and tolerant of minorities as we are though; he grew up in Seattle and probably doesn't have as many black friends as we do.
It's our job as the not lame and morally superior whites to guide our people toward multiculturalism and hip slang terms that are popular on black Twitter, and we have be realistic about the fact that this job is going to bring up some white corniness. I believe the proper way to handle this inevitable corniness is to bully the corny whites for not being as trendy and multicultural as we are. This will win us respect from our minority friends and help us feel even more superior.
>>61991738 Race isn't biological at all. It's maintained by those in power in order to divide the lower class and keep them from seeing their real enemies, creating race solidarity where there should be solidarity among the proletariat. Wanting to foster camaraderie regardless of skin pigmentation in order to present a unified front against the variety of ills perpetrated by the state and so-called free market has nothing to do with weird fetishes. >>61991849 >implying thinking the pigs are racist is a /pol/ thing >>61991903 Okay. Or maybe I was just confused and wondering if other people had actually seen black people get pissed at white people for saying "black lives matter" and it just hadn't happened to me.
>>61991967 >Race isn't biological at all Do you know what genes are? Do you know what haplotypes are? Do you know what biology is? Have you ever actually studied biology or do you just sit around with your thumb up your ass reading discredited pseudo-intellectuals?
