He has some decent stuff, basically albums 2-4 are decent. The rest I genuinely can't listen to. "Rap God" is the biggest piece of shit released as far as radio music goes until Hotline Bling took the title, but Rap God is still fucking horrendous. Genuinely 0/10, pure dogshit in every way.

Hip-hop was already a hugely commercial genre. It didn't 'start being sold to the masses' after eminem.

Snoop Dogg's debut album went immediately to number one, 6 years before Eminem's first commercial album. (That's not even a very early example, just an obvious one.)

He then made a record with another pretty tight politically passionate single (however the rest of the record fell short)

He then quit.
