>You've exploited and stolen the music, the moment
The magic, the passion, the fashion, you toy with
The culture was never yours to make better
You're Miley, you're Elvis, you're Iggy Azalea
Fake and so plastic, you've heisted the magic
Does it right the wrongs now that he acknowledges it?
Those bars are hot af but I don't see how it rights any wrongs. actually the fact that these issues need to be validated by a white man before they're acknowledged by the general population/people who matter is a big part of the problem. Black people have been saying this for years and nobody gave a shit, now one Jew-baiting hack says it and it's like racism is fixed
also way to conveniently leave yourself outta that list mack, nice work
because everyone who becomes too obsessed with another culture has serious issues
weebs, asians with white envy, wiggers, uncle toms, whatever, it's all based in self-hatred.
you'll notice healthy and successful people really don't give that much of a shit about it all.
>The part where he gets voyeuristic and has a poet congratulates him for having accessible music with "Thrift Shop" and "Same Love"
Jesus Christ, this is.embarrassing. if he thinks its wrong why doesn't he stop making garbage music. He could have just retired after tweeting that he was done "appropriating" culture.
This is just another terrible song in a long line of failures
So I suppose black people should stop using snare drums across the board lest they appropriate white culture?
Maybe no more orchestral stabs, can't appropriate white culture!
Maybe black people shouldn't have appropriated woodwind and brass instruments? Fucking appropriation!
Shit, did that black guy just use a blues structure? Remember how blacks appropriated blues from the Scots?
Fucking face it, everything we ever do is a form of fucking appropriation. I'm sick of people trying to create all this holy ground for white people. No ground is sacred to me, I'll walk where I shall.
White people are treated better than black people in America, so it's not fair that they should steal from blacks
>No ground is sacred to me, I'll walk where I shall.
he typed, sitting on his ass
Also, literally hip hop was birthed from sampling. It's literally "appropriation with ghetto black poems: the genre".
I'm so fucking sick of white guilt, aka original sin. Guilt is an entirely worthless feeling.
Yes goyim, apologize for your misbehavior towards those poor blackies!
Okay, unless something is directly sampled, claiming any beat is "unique" is pretty much utter horse shit. Especially synthesized drum beats.
That's like saying "I was the first to make a 909 4 on the floor house beat".
I havent listened to the le1f song, but notmally when rappers talk about beats theyre talking about the production as a whole, not just the fucking kick drum pattern ffs do i really have to explain this?
eh.. Same horns, same 808, same claps, same tempo. The melody is different and the drums are switched up a bit.. but there is definitely a strong resemblance here. The Le1f track is also wayyy better.
Not the same horns, le1f's song doesn't play the same melody, though that is thematically similar
808 is a kit that includes kicks, snares, hi hats. It's not just a kick, and they both use 808 sounds.
Le1f is not using the 808 kick as well. It's different. He seems to be using it for subby basslines, if at all. Macklemore does seem to be using it for the main kick.
Overall the similarities are trivial.
Blues comes from black people. Jazz comes from blues, dixie, and minstrel which is based on the idea of black people as a whole, gross generalizations but still based on them. Cultural music is a thing.
I stopped using drum patterns. Not much creativity involved. Also I'm white, and I love and know more about hip hop than most black kids I know. I can make and listen to whatever music I want to.
they're the worst of white people
white people excel at great literature, great architecture and art music. the only people who tries to impress black people by rapping are the ones who couldn't cut it in white culture
this is now a loveless meme thread
post memes realted to loveless
TA TA TA TA TA TA TA TA
BWOWOWOWOWOOOW WOOOW WAHWAHWAOWAHWAHWOAHWOAHAAWAW
>damn dude read some race theory
I've probably read more than most progressives honestly.
Cultural appropriation is a valid liberty we can indulge in for removing Africans from the shittiest part of the world and giving them a place in a industrialized liberal western democracy as opposed to the absolute shithole that is west africa.
>The culture was never yours to make better
>You're Miley, you're Elvis, you're Iggy Azalea
Jimmie Rodgers, a white country music (who was admittedly influenced by the blues) is considered by many historians to be the most influential country blues related artist of his own generation simply because he managed to get airplay on the radio. Howlin' Wolf cites Rodgers as the inspiration for his distinctive singing voice, it's nowhere near as one sided as you're making it to be.
No, but I would expect very few people on 4chan to agree. People have somehow convinced themselves that being white is now a disadvantage in mainstream society, and the SJW is the greatest threat we face.
>white people commodify and package traditional "white culture" all the time, simplifying it and taking a lot of the depth away in favor of mass appeal
>but when you do it to black people it's racist
Fucking hell, the very existence of rap as a global genre is literally cultural commodification. They turned a counter-culture hood movement into a multimillion dollar music industry phenomenon. But that's completely okay until a white person just like the music and want to make it too. Of course he wouldn't mention the biggest white rapper in history, only rapper he mentioned is universally hated, not because she's white, but because she fucking sucks. But it's okay for Macklemore to rap because he... acknowledges that black people invented rap?
I guess it's racist if an Asian man rights a Baroque-style orchestral piece? Or when metal artists incorporate quarter-step intervals?
>elvis stole music
i doubt many white people feel genuinely threatened. you see a lot of /pol/-types actively pushing back, but i reckon the majority of white people are just tired of the inclusivity circle jerk. i'm 25 and we've been hammering this shit since before i was in grade school. it's tiresome and superfluous.
He could be right, but isn't he making a rap song about how white people shouldn't make rap songs while he's white? Shouldn't he just not make music anymore?
Or is he somehow saying it's OK for him to make it because he's "authentic"? If so, that's worse IMO than the people he's criticizing. I don't mind if people take elements of music and do it their way, but to fetishize the culture of black people which it seems like he's doing while also appropriating and signaling that he's part of that group because he's special and "understands it" or something is embarrassing.
Although I will admit Ryan Lewis is a great producer. Neon Cathedral is a wonderfully produced song. Also BomBom which has no vocals at all.
Honestly if there was just an album of Ryan Lewis instrumentals, maybe some guests I would probably enjoy it.
My main complaint is that while we still have real racial issues, the things 90% of society talks about does nothing to resolve them. Privilege exists, in that some people are more or less disadvantaged in different areas based on status (class, race, gender, etc.) but it's not like there's a white conspiracy to keep blacks down. Mostly just apathy or wilful ignorance. Same idea as insisting being poor doesn't matter because hard work worked for them.
First verse is passable, its more blog post than song but whatever.
Then it derails. What was with that segment where he's complimenting thrift shop? And comparing cultural appropriation to police brutality is retarded.
Also macklemores voice is annoying and the iinstrumental is way too bouncy for this attempt at "serious" subject matter.
Overall this feels like a song that will alienate people on all sides of the issues discussed within it and will make everyone think less of macklemore because of how whiny and self-important he comes across all at once.
people need to come to terms with the fact that the black man's plight has nothing to do with personal biases and everything to do with systems at the institutional level designed to keep poor people poor. the fact that slavery, jim crowe, etc. happened is just shit luck to toss on top of it. when you realize everyone is fucked, this incorporeal brand of racism that macklemore and his ilk seem to harp on stops to matter so much.
i'm convinced he's an industry plant.
is that directed at me? you realize the irony in that statement when extreme social libs are the only ones who make such a huge stink out of it in the first place, right? people can do with their money what they please. it just boggles the mind the sheer amount of doublethink that goes on in those spheres. both sides, really.
>white (not hispanic)
I never understand that, i mean i get that white not hispanic reffers to the aryan, nordic, anglos, slavs, etc.
What i don't get is if white (hispanic) means all hispanics or hispanic people are divided in two.
>when extreme social libs are the only ones who make such a huge stink out of it in the first place, right?
W E W L A D.
>people can do with their money what they please.
Oh yeah but not when they use that health insurance or health coverage >huh?
it just boggles the mind the sheer amount of doublethink that goes on in those spheres. both sides, really.
Not at all.
You're pulling this "doublethink" bull out of your anys
>Dae evil trannies are going to attack you and kill your chuldren!
>They're going to attack your children and you in the bathroom!
>Trans person gets beat up
>xDDDDD destroy dae trannies and gays
Trans person transitions or not, they're fucked. Suicides or murders and I see an assload of conservatives crying tears of joy.
again, i don't really care. there are probably lots of trans people at the end of their ropes who cannot cope with their bodies. if they can't be fucked to spend the money on therapy, might as well spend it on HRT or surgery. i just don't think it should be taken lightly. surgery is inherently dangerous. i'm fine with trans people. and not in a corporate compliance diversity handbook kind of way -- i fuck men and women and do lots of weird stuff with both.
i get that you're trolling, but whatev.
>You're trolling me :'(
I know people don't care regardless.
Y'all scream "surgery is dangerous!" yet whenever an obese fuck breaks their leg and gets surgery people easily approve.
depending on the fracture, surgery is a medical necessity. but you want to avoid being under the knife as much as possible during your lifetime. feeling icky about your body as a teenager isn't really grounds for extensive plastic surgery, imo.
that said, obese fucks don't deserve much anyway.
HOW DARE YOU CALL THEM BLACK, THE PREFERED TERM IS AFRICAN AMERICAN YOU RACIST SEXIST CIS MALE SHITLORD!!!!!!
>obvi he's talking about talking a cultural music and turning into easy to digest pop music.
He has a point.
We need guys like Drake, Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Young Thug, T-Pain, Kanye West who wont make easy to digest pop music and all happen to be dark skin 100% African as well
>What was with that segment where he's complimenting thrift shop? And comparing cultural appropriation to police brutality is retarded.
It was some le ignorant white fan gushing over him and defending police at the same time.
Fun fact, the era of white mediocrity insultingly known as The Renaissance was actually stolen wholecloth from the diaries of Miles Davis. He was compensated with a rotisserie chicken and two cornbread muffins.
Damn Mac became a bigger sellout than Ice Cube and George Lucas combined
Suck that block cock you cuck
Michael Brown was a criminal
And this is coming from a guy who genuinely believed 9/11 theories
He is a gimmick just like her and this is a gimmick tactic.
Thrift shop was big and same love because white people gave it a shot cause he was white and really isn't a rapper.
Same people love him love eminem lol
He gets no play in my hood.
Check my bro tho
Oh he is trash to people that listen to rap.only white lame like him.
Brah his dick on homies neck man..lol
It's kind of bizarre. the first White Privilege he did was actually a pretty down to Earth observation on showing respect to the originators of the hip hop genre.
I think he just went off the rails with white guilt neo-progressive bullshit this time around because Same Love or whatever was such a hit he realized he could exploit black struggle just as shallowly as he did gays and make tonnes of money in the same way.
>Same people love him love eminem lol
My words are like a dagger with a jagged edge
That'll stab you in the head, whether you're a fag or lez
Or a homosex, hermaph or a trans-a-vest
Pants or dress, hate fags? the answer's "yes"
Homophobic? Nah, you're just heterophobic
Staring at my jeans, watching my genitals bulging
That's my motherfuckin' balls, you'd better let go of 'em
They belong in my scrotum, you'll never get hold of 'em!
"Hey, it's me, Versace! Whoops, somebody shot me!
And I was just checking the mail, get it? Checking the 'male'?"
How many records you expecting to sell
After your second LP sends you directly to jail?
Come on, relax guy, I like gay men
If I was gay, I would think hip-hop hates me
Have you read the YouTube comments lately?
"Man, that's gay" gets dropped on the daily
We become so numb to what we're saying
A culture founded from oppression
Yet we don't have acceptance for 'em
Call each other faggots behind the keys of a message board
A word rooted in hate, yet our genre still ignores it
Gay is synonymous with the lesser
I find it hard to believe there may be crossover.
This is why I support Bernie sanders for president. He will tank race relations and the economy. Maybe secession movements wil gain serious traction.
Ironically Asians have the most "privilege". They make more money, commute less crime, don't go to prison as much, have higher IQs than whites etc. yet no one bitches about them.
America is a melting pot. Hip hop belongs to no one. White people shouldn't be shamed for being white because they don't subscribe to far left lunacy. The song sounds good but only serves to antagonize whites who have committed the terrible crime of "WRONG THINK".
HEY BLACK PEOPLE. LETS HAVE AN HONEST CONVERSATION ABOUT BLACK CRIME AND UNDERACHIEVMENT THAT DOESNT INVOLVE BLAMING WHITES!!!!
