Please tell me this affectation ridden pseudosincerity post-ironic music fad will be over soon.
This is what happens when /v/ /tv/ and /r9k/ invade a board en masse
The same shit happened to /a/ but their board culture has enough defenses against this type of thing (loli threads) that it repels most of them
/mu/ is too carefree to really push them away and now we're dealing with the aftermath
nah man, not really reddit...
it's just that in North America we have this fascination with Australians/Kiwis. Their "laid back" persona is a subject of envy for our up-tight culture. Her music is sloppy, lazy, slacker, etc. but of course very "sincere" and has pretty solid production. It's made for the Juno audience but even easier to sell since she's Australian and a "chill" lesbian.
>made for juno audience
I cannot begin to describe the disdain I have for this sort of music. To be honest, if I focus really hard on the instruments, shut out the vocals and pretend that they were being sung by someone tolerable and with lyrics that aren’t embarrassing, I can potentially see why this isn’t bad. But the truth is that she is there, she is awful, she is unbearably moronic and she does ruin any little bits of skill that the drums or guitars bring in. After one of my friends declared Barnett his “new waifu” I decided to check this out, and after confronting him about this absolute nonsense, he made a comment along the likes of only enjoying it to impress girls at parties. This album is exactly the sort of thing that those teenage girls who listen to “indie” as an image or a statement would lap up. They’ll talk about the bad vocals as “dylan-esque”, and will break into singing quotes from the frankly embarrassing lyrics whenever they can, because they’re SO ME XD, snapping up lines like “I want to wash out my head with turpentine cyanide” as if they’re extremely meaningful poetry. And jesus, I haven’t even mentioned the accent. If there was ever a convincing case for a nuke heading right to the middle of Australia’s eastern coast, this is it. An album filled with nonsense psuedo-meaningful ‘indie’ lyricism, complete with an image you’d expect one of those Sundance films advertised as indie (but actually aren’t), mostly forgettable instrumentation and songwriting, and one of the worst voices you’ve ever heard. Is there anything worse?
Nonononononononono please no. Life Without Buildings are a wonderfully energetic impassioned group bursting with an incomparably propulsive energy. How do they remind you of Barnett at all?
If someones opinion is pointless then your thread is pointless too.
It's that he needlessly engaged this weird rhetoric about opinions (which is redundant and presupposed -- we all know music is subjective, but "wahh my opinion" is not conducive to discussing the artform we all love) while giving a vague, underbaked opinion himself.
I hope it'll die soon too. Courtney Barnett's entire schtick is
>get on stage
>AH HATE MOISELF FUKKEN CUNT GIRL POWER
Memes aside, why do people actually hate her and her album?
you criticise it for being 'faux indie', but what is her stuff if not indie.
She releases her music on her own label that she started herself, and she influences every aspect of her music - that's pretty indie. Her stuff is supposed to be something that the average person can relate to, it's not sarcastic or anything. She actually is really laid-back in her interviews (it's actually kinda of annoying to listen to)
If you don't like her music then fair enough, but it isn't artificial, ironic 'indie' music, and she is pretty talented. The album is both popular and critically acclaimed, so it's done alright. I don't even like her stuff much, but I respect what she's done>>61900748
Silly OP, there's nothing ironic about her lyrics.
Listen to her Sea of Split Peas double LP, it's even better.
