Cowbell is a legitimate instrument, and people who play it deserve the same respect that a guitarist or pianist should get.
I'm mostly saying that the point of this thread is clearly a pathetic piano or guitar player trying to make themselves feel better about their mediocrity by creating a strawman (there's no such thing as someone who only plays cowbell) to position themselves above.
Actual talented musicians of all kinds universally avoid this kind of sad equivalence, but every hack with no talent obsesses over the notion that talent comes from choice of instrument, not what you do with it.
7 billion people on the earth and you don't think there's a single one who only plays cowbell? This isn't a scientific debate you fucking dolt, and you know damn well that was a "haha I gotcha" statement.
Can you get a scholarship from playing the cowbell?
It's legitimate, yes, but if you think someone whose sole job is to bang out quarter notes deserves the same amount of respect as someone who plays guitar, then you're just wrong. That's assuming there's someone out there who actually only plays cowbell
It's a terrible gotcha, nobody plays only cowbell and calls themselves a musician so what's the point of this, ultimately?
That a guy who buys a cowbell for a joke and hits it once in a while doesn't deserve the respect of an actual musician? Yeah, no shit.
It's funny to me because the term I used was "actual musician" and you quoted it wrong and typed your wrong quote wrong.
You'd think with those developed piano or guitar skills you would have better dexterity.
Point being that playing basic chords on a guitar is nowhere near as impressive as, say, Tito Puente playing a sophisticated cowbell rhythm.
Whose on the defensive all of a sudden?
What happened to demanding respect for musical skills?
No, you forgot what the thread was about.
If the point is that music doesn't need to be sophisticated or difficult to play to gain respect, why all this nonsense about cowbells?
It's about as hard to learn to play basic chords as it is to hold a steady beat, neither is particularly deserving of respect. If you do something interesting with simple materials then good on you, but then why bother shitting on the cowbell?
If someone wants to put themselves on a pedestal and shit talk others they kind of forgo the right to claim that the complexity doesn't matter.
ayy lmao I'm still lurking
