Albums that never get old
>>
Threads that will never get a serious reply
>>
>>61879079
This is a funny album considering how it stood time. I mean it's not like it sounds exactly modern or futuristic anymore in anyway but it's futurish retro sound still works really well after decades and countless listens.
>>
>>61879240
only as a meme which it is

meanwhile literally every album from kanye will hold up for the rest of the existance of this universe
>>
>>61879240
Who, in all seriousness, would mind if someone near them put on The Dark Side Of The Moon?
A brave soul? A sociopath? A trve patrician?
>>
>>61879317
in general I guess I wouldn't mind
if I were actually on psychedelic drugs I would probably ask for something else to be put on
>>
>>61879317
the hate DSOTM gets here is a prime example of /mu/'s need to be edgy contratians. I mean it's okay to not be into the music if it isn't your cup of tea but just calling it a "shit meme" really tells much of the maturity of some posters that frequent here.
>>
>>61879375
Sadly, this is true.
>>
>>61879341
Well that all makes perfect sense.
Honestly, I might listen to some early Floyd next time I trip.
It's been long enough, I have new headphones, and that shit's fun.
Also Soft Machine.
>>
>>61879375
It's heavily overrated as far as floyd albums go.

piper, ummagumma, ahm, meddle, wywh, animals and even the wall are all better albums

>calling it a "shit meme" really tells much of the maturity of some posters that frequent here.

ironically you would expect someone who thought this was the best floyd album to be about 14
>>
This is literally what people think
>>
>>61879426
No one in this thread atleast has called it the best floyd album though. I prefer Meddle myself but DSOTM was my introduction to psychedelic rock and psychedelia in general along with the Doors when I was 14-15. And like you said, I considered it one of the best albums around those times and I've got some really unforgettable memories built around that album so it's always special in that way for me. And I guess the case is similiar for many others
>>
>>61879461
and this is why it gets so much hate
when something is this heavily overrated contrarianism is almost a necessity

it's good, it's just not that fucking good (like literally perfect best album ever made good)
>>
>>61879461
That's a horrible mix
>>
>>61879461

Money is in context of the album the worst song though. It's so out of place and ruins the mood of the whole record.

Serious reply incoming, faggots!
>>
>>61879426
can someone explain the appeal of The Wall to me?
>>
>>61879731
Any Colour You Like is about thinking you have a choice but you really dont. this is expressed by more than just the title. the first half of the song repeats the same few notes on the keyboard except they play it faster, slower, backwards and forwards to create the illusion of listening to different things. it cleverly shows how people are mislead into thinking they are decididing how their life will run but that is not the case as societies pressures force you to take a certain path.

Dark Side of the Moon is about the pressures of everyday life driving you crazy. Note its position on the album, too. "Us and Them" is about paranoia, immediately following this is "Any Colour You Like" and then "Brain Damage", finally the Eclipse. Any Colour is the nervous breakdown that comes in between the onset of paranoia and the "brain damage."

It's about growing up, enjoying life before you die, and even though you know you are going to die, and you have faced several hardships already, you've got to lighten up in order to truly enjoy your years on earth.

>>
>>61879900
It's irrelevant whether or not you agree with that fact, because the thematic content of DSotM is inane and simplistic. You would have to be an utter moron to think that it was saying anything even vaguely new or insightful.
>>
>>61879883

Yes, focusing. Would you call that single sentence in the context of an entire paragraph about things which aren't music "focusing" on music?

You probably would, as you are quite clearly retarded.
>>
>>61879921
You realize this album was made in the 70's right?
>>
Pink Floyd became so mediocre after they lost their primary creative force. None of the other members had what Syd had and everything the did after he left was just desperately trying to get away from their old work, to say "look how much better we are now so complex and sophisticated" and now look, it's amazing how their music is made to appeal to both stupid pretentious teenagers and boring old men, it's the perfect storm.
>>
>>61879921
Of course, but that's the thing about pop culture. A lot of it is really ridiculous, but even the inane can be important.

I think people don't know why the album is praised other than its themes. The album is also praised because of the recording techniques used to produce it. It sounds fucking excellent and at the time the album came out it was ahead of its time. The album is a technical marvel. Sure the album might get boring but even so still manages to hold up to be decent or even good if you open your ears and listen. When I first listened to the dark side of the moon, I gave it a straight 6/10 and that was after 3 listens. A few weeks later when I was feeling down and needed some music to cool down, I decided to put ion and pay attention this time. Songs like Any Colour You Like and On The Run just sounded so much better each with a meaning behind. Made me bump the score and then I realized how nicely the album ends which made me bump it even more. In total the album is a straight 8/10. If Great Gig In The Sky and Us and Them were more interesting or even removed then this could had been a straight for me.

>>61879587
Money was the first track on the backside of the vinyl though. It makes much more sense, if you have that in mind, because many albums used to have a "kicker" in a beat up track such as money to give a nice change of pace and reenergize the album.

I had the same thoughts as you did about Money, but then I heard someone argue from this point of view.

Rick Wright second best PF.

>>61881523
I can't get enough of all the deeply layered, squishy moog synths on it

That's a valid point, also what the other anon said above how it's mood change and it being out of place fits the theme of the song. I've always enjoyed it on it's own though.

Honestly, it's cliché as fuck, but I don't care. I think Dark Side of the Moon is praised, because it deserves it.
>interesting production
>almost timeless
>great build ups that work well for the albums atmosphere
>lyrics aren't preachy, which was my issue with The Wall
>GREAT usage of unconventional "instrumentation" (Great Gig wailing, the samples etc)
>>
>>61881526
I just couldn't get into them man. I didn't skip them of course since it will be dumb to do it on a concept album. I like them but they just didn't catch me as much as the other songs.I do enjoy Us and Them, It's mostly Great Gig In The Sky I have the problem with.
