To me, post-punk is one of the most bland genres there is. Am I missing something, /mu/? Besides a few stellar albums, most post-punk is just boring. It takes the catchy and fun elements out of rock music, but it doesn't have any artistry/new ideas/experimentation/etc to make up for that.
what post-punk do you know?
you should stop listening to shitty joy division derivatives and start listening to the actually interesting post-punk bands

you don't know what you're talking about because post-punk is all about experimentation and you clearly haven't listened to enough of it.

I think it's interesting because it eliminates most punk tropes, not necessarily that it eliminates the "fun" of rock. There's more room for story-telling, more spacial musical arrangements...instruments are used sparingly.
there's still aggression, more angst in a literal sense of the word, but it's less spasmodic. Punk is defiant and fast and in-your-face, post-punk has lyrical buildup and more of an indie approach to song construction. It sounds more powerful and cerebral, at the expense of normal punk's energy and passion.

The Sound - Missiles should be in there.
R.E.M. is arguably not post punk, even in their jangly jangle pop days.
Pretty good though
>>61873637
I agree, but 9-9 is their one song that sounds like it was written by Andy Gill.
Thanks for the rec, I'll check it out.
>>61873480
>interpol
>REM
silver apples isn't post-punk either, but they're good and it fits(ish)
>>61873694
Interpol is revival. Neither of you have actually heard that REM song, have you?
No arguments on Silver Apples. Thought they'd be controversial. Proto-post-punk.

Gun Club - She's like Heroin
iceage - White Rune
Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart

Im>>61873637
Of course I have. Murmur is one of my top 5 all time favorite records. I agree it's the closest they have to a post punk song, but it's jangle pop. Not quite the same.
>>61873751
Thanks, I'll have to check those out.
>>61873823
>>61873844
Sheesh, here I was thinking people would give me shit for the Atoms For Peace song (rightfully so). It sorta fits the mood so I left it in.
