Bowie as he was the all-around perfect entertainer:

Amazing songwriter and performer, great actor, well read, totally charming and actually an interesting person -- something most musicians aren't.

>Hendrix
He probably would've gone on to done tacky stuff like Miles Davis
>Jim Morrison
Don't make me laugh.
>Elvis
A glorified jukebox, even though I like some of his tunes.
>Sid Viscous
Why?
>Lennon
Third after to Buckley and Bowie, but he had his best work long behind him. Bowie was making some of his best music in the last few years of his life and his stuff like 'Outside' and 'Heathen' are great.
>Mercury
Queen are shit, except for 'Bohemian Rhapsody', 'Under Pressure' and Mercury's solo 'Living on my Own'
Great performer, though.
>Zappa
Overrated
>Tupac
Overrated
>Cobain
Would've liked to have seen what he would've gone on to do
>Biggy
Overrated
>Buckley
A close second after Bowie as he had so much potential. 'My Sweetheart...' was so promising.
>>
Jeff Buckley because we have so little material from him. I would love to see were else he would have gone
>>
>>61863972
He played some funky stuff when he was alive.
I'm pretty sure he would've just become a drug-fuelled recluse that shoved out loads of blues records if he didn't die.

Zappa would just continue making snarky albums with jazz elements. He'd release more content that a couple people would snicker over then be done with it. Unless being dead would have made him less cynical I have no reason to believe he'd contribute anything worthwhile coming back.
>>
>>61865085
Have you heard Dance Me This? It's a showcase of what would come if he'd live a bit longer.
Also he'd probably do more stuff with Ensemble Modern, which if you've heard Yellow Shark, you know how great it was.

Also
>implying this isn't exactly what modern politics need.
Also Zappa was never that silly, he'd make it way more layered and stuff. he'd also criticise pretty much everyone who's running for president this year. Well maybe not Rand Paul.

Not to mention Bowie was always changing styles so you could always anticipate something different from him whereas most lf the other artists/rappers would just produce more of the same.

>>61864089
>>61865342
Why would you want to resurrect Bowie, when he made his death a work of art and is in a way only one that makes sense not to resurrect.
Unless
LAZARUS
>>
I honestly can't decide between Bowie, Cobain, and Hendrix.
>>
>>61865395
If his album about his death was so good, imagine how good the one about his resurrection would be.
>>
>>61865395

>Why did everyone sell out in the 80s?
Cocaine, and the death of hippie idealism.

>"And that, I think, was the handle — that sense of inevitable victory over the forces of Old and Evil. Not in any mean or military sense; we didn't need that. Our energy would simply PREVAIL. There was no point in fighting — on our side or theirs. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave...

>So now, less than five years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look West, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high water mark — that place where the wave finally broke, and rolled back."
>>
>>61864095
Everyone sold out in the 70s, anon. And every decade since has been sold-out pallooza only with different marketing spiels. At least in rock music.
>>
>>61864095
>Why did everyone sell out in the 80s?
Neoliberalism took hold and people started to want to consume more and became jaded by 'naive' idealism/ideologies, hence most popular culture reflected this.

Neoliberalism is the end of ideology, even though it is itself an ideology -- the most insidious of all, because people don't even see it as an ideology, just as 'logical' or 'common sense'.
>>
>>61864051

Chuck Berry and Hendrix are apples and oranges you stupid, unaware faggot

Why is it a comparison between those two? Because they're both black, play the same instrument and were active during the same 20 year period?
>>
>>61865729
They both make blues you dolt

>same instrument
>active during the same 20 years
These are also valid
>>
>>61863918
Tupac just because I would love to hear everything he had to say about politics, social issues, the music business etc. I always love listening to people who don't give a fuck and call it like they see it. I mostly just talking about his interviews. Of course being so outspoken is what got him killed so if I brought him back he would just get killed again lol

Either Buckley or Cobain as their bodies of work are smaller then the others.

It would have been interesting to see what direction they would have gone in, especially Buckley. That album of his is an unfocused mess.It would have been nice too him create something that was more focused in one artistic direction.

Bowie, obviously. He was in a creative kick up until he died. Lennon would be second probably, but his best (or even decent) work was long behind him, and I don't give a shit about the music of any of the others. Queen sucks (Freddie Mercury had an amazing voice, sure, but the music he sang was bad), The Doors suck, Jimi Hendrix is overrated, Kurt Cobain is even more overrated, 2pac and Biggie are babby's first rap, and I'm not really familiar with the work of the others.

Probably Bowie

My heart chooses Jeff... But in a way I feel like he had to die young, it had to be like this. Bowie however I always pictured going on for eternity.
>>
Sid Vicious isn't vicious any more, he's dead.

Bowie cause he can still make great music, he proved that with Blackstar

Not sure if the rest of these artists would still make great shit if they were around today
>>

Zappa. I disagree with his politics vastly but damn if he isn't the best of all of those to me. Besides, we need someone to stop the conversion of America into some right wing Christian theocracy.

biggie and buckley were the only ones still in their prime or maybe hadn't even reached it yet. so them

Bowie because I'd like to hear the actual form that comes after his 13th return to it. One more album like Blackstar, one more album like The Next Day, then who knows what.

Morrison to kill again.

Cobain only because it would be interesting to see the direction he goes in.
He would either pull a Billy Corgan where he continues Nirvana with different musicians and doesn't give a fuck what he releases or a John Frusciante where he becomes a quiet solo artist releasing obscure shit on his website
>>
>>61863918
Jimi Hendrix is the only one that really died too soon
everyone else was tapped out (not talking about the rappers) but Hendrix had a lot more creativity
>>
Frank Zappa because I really want more funny poop joke songs with a funky beat. Weird Al is bretty gud but he just doesn't have the same groove.
>>

>>Cobain
>Would've liked to have seen what he would've gone on to do

I think either Biggie or Hendrix, because I think they probably still had plenty of fantastic albums left in them. Everyone else pretty much reached their potential.

This. When John Lennon died people were shocked just because he was murdered
When Hendrix died people felt like the music world was cut in half
Doctors also said Cobain had like 2 more years tops before his voice would go from all the throat yelling
