Is Nirvana really grunge? They sound nothing like other grunge bands
>>
grunge isnt a genre

I feel like grunge is a genre defined by time and place, not really by sound. Nirvana was an alternative rock group from the Seattle area in the early 90's, so yes they are grunge.
>>
>>61851177
they were basically a pop punk band
>>
>>61851299
This
>>
>>61851177
>grunge
>a genre
>>
>why does kurt look like he about to drop the hottest noise rock album of 1993?
>why does krist look like he about to drop kick a member of jefferson airplane?
>why does dave look like he about to drop a mad deuce?
>>
>>61851363
dude pop punk is bvb and shit. stop being a fag and calling nirvana pop. they had pop accessibilities in a rock sense... they werent pop.
>>
>>61851177

They're "grunge" in the same way skrillex is dubstep.
>>
>>61851459
hi, huge nirvana fan here, they're totally pop and if you can't see that, you're a idiot
>>
You're a dumbass.
Nirvana is alternative blackened nu deathgrind metalcore
>>
>>61851436
read that as "he about to drop kick a mad deuce"
>>
>>61851349
This
It's a blanket term for bands that sound a bit muddy I guess and there just happened to be a lot of good bands from the same area with (I guess?) a similar sound. Grunge is a bullshit term that caught fire because it was trendy
>>
>>61851501
Not him but Nevermind was basically pop punk. In Utero wasn't.
>>
>>61851459
I hope this is a copypasta because if it isn't I cringed.
>>
>>61851177
God that t-shirt. Cobain was such a pretentious twat I'm fucking glad he's dead.
>>
ITT: plebs who haven't even heard Bleach

that album is the epitome of grunge music, just like Mudhoney and the Melvins before them
>>
>>61851712
it's a joke, sperglord
>>
>>61851363
No, pop punk is actually good
>>
>>61851712
Actually I think it's pretty cool seeing as how he made it for a Rolling Stone cover shoot.

I'm sure he was forced to do the whole shoot and interview by DCG and knew that was pretty much the only way he was going to get that message out via that magazine.
>>
>>61851556
It describes a scene of intermingled musicians and musocal projects, how can you be so daft
>>
>>61852772
You just said what I said in a smarter way. Obviously they were intermingled, they were from the same smallish city.
I fucking hate you people some times
>>
>>61853132
they wrote and recorded on each others releases, that's a bit more intertwined than being from the same state
>>
"grunge" was just mainstream alt rock bands that happened to be located around Seattle Washington
>>
>>61853297
>I actually don't know what i'm talking about, i don't even listen to that shit lol
>>
>>61853297
no, actual grunge was a mixture of sludge metal and garage punk with downtuned fuzzy guitars

Nirvana were grunge but bands like Pearl Jam merely adopted the term to sell records
>>
>>61853252
Oh my god you are either purposefully not getting what Im saying or you are retarded. I fucking know that dude. Don't you think people from the same scene would obviously be very intertwined? They all are in the same field and see each other all the time. So obviously they are intertwined
>>
>>61853380
Pearl Jam is more grunge than Nirvana
>>
>>61853443
alright you ambigious twat, it still isn't a catch all term for trendy Washington state bands
>>
>>61851177
wtf guy bleach is very 'grunge', other albums are a little bit 'garage punk' idk
>>
>>61851177
That dude on the right looks like the guy from the Foo Fighters
>>
>>61851177
i think green river is a true grunge band, nirvana sounds like green river so nirvana is grunge
>>
>>61851177
That's because grunge is not a real genre, it's a fashion.
>>
>>61853484
Guess I was a little vague and misleading. Sorry anon I love you please don't hate me :) I mean when it comes to the sound it kind of is a catch all term
>>
>>61853448
bait
>>
>>61851349
yeah, grunge was a scene, not a genre strictly speaking.

There was more to it than just the music, if that all you're using to define grungeyou're going to be excluding bands and things that definitely were
>>
>>61851177

this is almost as bad as "The Clash isn't a real punk band"

Grunge was a marketing strategy. A brand. A con. And we all bought it.
>>
>>61854390

yeah melvins are great, i'm just talking about grunge
>>
>>61853521

yikes
>>
>>61855340
there's no stopping your mememes is there?
>>
>>61851507

nah that would actually be good
>>
>>61853521
Are you stupid? The drummer for Nirvana is Gave Drohl
The singer of the Foo Fighters is Dave Grohl.
I'd love to see a collaboration though
>>
>>61851177
Bleach was definitely a grunge album, Incesticide, Nevermind and In Utero weren't. i guess they were a grunge band at the beginning of their careers.
>>
>>61855502
about half of Incesticide is grunge
>>
>>61855502
>>61855881
>still thinks grunge is a genre
