Any album that features the artist or band on it's cover is mediocre at best.

That's not Elliott on the cover. Perhaps Figure 8 or Basement on a Hill would be more suitable?
Except for this one and a few that i haven't listened to, i'd argue that most of these don't satisfy the criteria of being better than mediocre.

also, basically where i'm going with this is that featuring the artist on the album cover kind of detracts from the quality of the music.
As in, if you come to agree that the album cover is an integral part of how we perceive the music today, having the artist as a cover devalues the experience more often than not.
