>the 2 CDs are called "Act I" and "Act II"
>"The Astonishing is a concept album that, as described by Rolling Stone, "centers around a band of rebels trying to defy an oppressive empire, with music playing a central role.""
>"all eight characters have been revealed: Emperor Nafaryus, Empress Arabelle, Daryus, and Faythe of the Great Northern Empire and Evangeline, Gabriel, Xander and Arhys of the Ravenskill Rebel Militia"
Will this be the most autistic album of all time /mu/?
>implying 2112 wasn't already shit
Not going to lie I have a soft spot for cheesy, over the top, corny, bombastic prog operas/concept albums with autistically retarded stories.
>The album explores the idea of psychological rebirth, and follows the story of a man who, after falling into a coma following a car accident, is confronted with his past, his emotions, and his current situation as he lays trapped inside his own mind. The circumstances surrounding the accident are mysterious, as the man ("Me") ploughed into a tree on a deserted road in broad daylight. Following this, he slips into a twenty-day coma, with each day represented by a single song. Each song follows a slightly different format, though there are major common themes, such as the presence of Me's manifest emotions in his dream world including Fear, Reason, and Pride; the presence of Me's Wife, Best Friend at his bedside; and the past events that Me is forced to reflect on.
>The plot builds from Me’s early broken state to his eventual rebirth as a new and better man. His own dark past, in which he suffered beneath an abusive Father, was driven to become merciless by school bullies, and eventually betrayed his closest friend for his own benefit; is intertwined with the plot surrounding Wife and Best Friend, eventually revealing the cause of the accident: Me had witnessed the two sharing an intimate moment, and had swerved his car into a tree in his despair. The three eventually come clean and forgive each other, leading Me to conquer his negative emotions and escape his nightmarish prison.
how long is this fucking thing gonna be
But wait, there's more
James Labrie is doing all of the characters' voices... which means he'll be imitating a woman as he sings, and using different exaggerated voices for different songs. Why they didn't get guest vocalists is beyond me.
As autistic as they are, Dream Theater are an old favorite so I'll give this a fair shot. Generally bands won't put out double albums or concept albums unless they're confident in what they're writing, so it'll probably at least be better than the s/t album.
That trailer though, holy shit.
have you ever listened to dream theater holy shit
Are we posting autistic prog metal ITT?
have a different breed of autism.
this, many buttprog fans aren't really into other revered prog bands. I was talking to this kid who didn't know any 70's prog bands beside Rush and most others I met don't know many outside Dream Theater, Tool and the likes.
Yes it does senpai
I've seen Fate's Warning circlejerked regularly in /metal/ general for almost 3 years, and before /metal/ general was even a thing they were constantly brought up in Prog metal threads. Fate's Warning's one of the best prog bands of the 80s alongside Savatage and Voivod, lad. Maybe X Japan if you consider them progressive.
>nobody cares about about one of the most important prog metal bands of the 80s
>say something bad about <influential and respected band in genre> in <genre> thread
>people reasonably call you out
><fanbase> is upset XD
How is Unexpect cringe? The musicianship is top notch, and they're one of the few metal bands that manage to be technical whilst not devolving into guitar-focused wankery, and the music's not nearly as random as people make it out to be, they rarely genre-hop
Like most bands that were inspired by Bungle they completely missed the subtle nuanced that made Bungle what it was. Instead they heard le epic circus music and sudden genre changing. Shitty feel honestly.
