It's one of the only pop albums from 2000-2016 that I can definitively say is an artistic masterwork. Probably because it was created by Bowie, a person who worked and artistically developed in the album era.
Nowadays artists don't give a fuck about putting out something as meaningful as Blackstar.
Anyway the album stands on it's own. The music is very simple yet highly detailed, with a swathe of flavours. It's one of those "of course" things where in hindsight anyone could have thought of it, but never before.
True that. I was hot for this record last weekend and couldn't stop listening to it, after being excited for it since the November single release. I was listening to it when I saw the sad news, and it was a lightbulb moment, but the album was good.
>mfw Major Tom reference in Black Star video >mfw the dance from Fashion is done by a dancer in the same video >mfw the black costume in Lazerus is a call back to Station to Station >mfw the harmonica sample from "A new Career in A New Town" is used on "I Can't Give Everything Away" >mfw the Star pieces spell Bowie >mfw he turned death into one final piece of art for himself and his fans.
>>61750595 so my ears are kind blocked from the flu, some mysterious sweling somewhere, and i feel like im behind something sonically. some frequencies are lost, some intensified somehow. had blasckstar on repeat doing some work and fuck, it sounded so well put together and deliciously layered. must have been super joyful to make, makes me think. >yeah, it was the flac rip m8
It's okay, like most of his career. I wasn't aware most of /mu/ even liked him until his death. Now there's a new thread for this average faggot every minute. I can only imagine what'll happen when someone like Thom Yorke or Bob Dylan dies.
>>61753047 >>61753104 >>61753145 It adds nothing to the music. It adds context to the themes, but this album does not sound better just because he died right after it was released. It does make it more impactful, I'll admit.
