However Real Friends sounds too much like what we've already heard to somehow be thrown away, and the other song is a snippet because obviously the full version is on the album (either unfinished or good enough to be only teased for now).

Album dropping Feb 18. Just heard the whole thing. I can't say much about it, but Wolves has been scrapped and replaced with Lions featuring Swae Lee. Swae Lee is on quite a few of the tracks, I think he's getting signed to GOOD.

Also it seems like he's taken from Kendrick's book as he has GKMC style skits at the end of each track. Except the skits are literally excerpts from various Luther Vandross interviews and speeches and shit to serve as a narration.

He also has a song for each of his family members. So there's a Kim, a North, a Saint, and a Donda. Each of these features never heard Luther Vandross vocals.

It took fucking weeks. But then he had a dream where his mother came to him and claims that Luther Vandross came to her in heaven and taught her the Power of Love.

That's one of the central concepts to the album: The Power of Love. It plays a similar role to the Yams in TPAB, except it mentioned much more frequently.

I know I'm gonna sound like a giant faggot here but to understand the reception MBDTF got you have to understand that it relied a lot on the timing and context and expectations. MBDTF is essentially a consolidation of Kanye's previous 4 albums which were all very different and well-received, and it combined all this in a cohesive way while also including new elements and a new narrative style that he hadn't done before.

Let me put it this way, imagine an artist you're a fan of putting out an album that is literally exactly what you were wanting as a fan when you heard "new album coming," and it even goes a step or two beyond that.

I wasn't a giant Kanye fan or anything. I was as much a fan as the next guy, but he wasn't one of my favorite artist or something. If my memory serves right, College Dropout came out my freshman year in high school and this my junior year of college. Those 4 previous albums were ubiquitous during those years so everyone was very familiar with them and a lot of people were at least a casual fan. I wasn't on /mu/ or reading any music sites and didn't know of the critical acclaim or whatever. I distinctly remember in the fall of '10 seeing this album had leaked, downloading it, burning it, popping it in my car, and the second the beat dropped on "Dark Fantasy" I had a smile on my face the whole way through and was engrossed in a way that I'm not sure I had experienced with an album up to that point, and it instantly became heavy rotation. It was everything I could have possibly wanted out of it.

Now consider that a lot of people at the time, including critics, had the same expectations and hopes for this album, and when it met all of those expectations and then some it felt like a home-run. If critics gave his other albums a 9 or 9.5 when they came out, it only made sense to them to give this one a 10... (too long had to split it)
